More attempts, more video data showing the Ray'z ports compared to MAME. Again, have to wait to get Switch and Xbox (One) copies to test those platforms. Order is Steam/Windows 11 (with MSI Afterburner open) and then PS4. Getting frame data on console is NOT as easy as PC, may just have to rely on our own observations here. The capture card feed doesn't tell us a whole lot on that front. for a MAME comparision, see the run I recently submitted (MSI Afterburner's open on it too, can't miss it.)

For my first run, it was an IL in Freedom Planet. I had purchased this cheap USB capture card from eBay just to record footage from a Wii U. Video was "okay"; but, the audio was something else. Best to listen in and compare it to other runs today, made the game sound more :retro" than it already looks/acts.

Understandable on the debate on what to do, and don't fret over it taking this long.We had to figure this out for RayForce as well. We pretty much figured it practically is same as the arcade version or running MAME (if anyone ran the Sega Saturn ports, it'd probably have it's own category for the load times. However, no one has ran it for a run yet, and having tried I would NOT recommend it with MAME and Ray'z Arcade Chronology available.) Having said that, your board so rules can differ. I'll try to offer what I know to help.

From what I can see of this, the Ray'z ports in general behave the same as arcade. Platform does not seem to make a difference in terms of one loading faster than the other, I only have the ability to test PlayStation 4 (base model) and Steam for now. I lack any Xbox version or the Switch version (until my physical copy of the game finally ships out) to see about those frames. The only one I'd remotely foresee having issues is MAYBE the Nintendo Switch, of which I am not seeing any such issues from other sources. The only other thing to really talk about is the HD version of RayStorm. I am entirely unsure about how we should handle that as I have heard of (but not seen myself) that there is a rare potential crash in Stage 1 in that particular version (this may be confined to the Steam version as well, but again this is not something I have verified personally.). I will look into this when I am able to do so.

So, for now, just adding the multiple platforms to the Arcade category would probably work (and perhaps put into the category rules about what settings to have when using this collection).

Hello once again, if this would help I've done a couple sample runs of the Ray'z Arcade Chronology ports of RayStorm (I've previously done the same for RayForce). I suppose this would also count as a first attempt of the game.

With the new M2 ports of the Ray trilogy, what exactly would be the proper settings to be used for a run of the game (Mostly difficulty-wise as unlike RayForce there's no PCB rapid fire option)? Would a run using these ports (Steam, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series S/Series X, Switch) first be necessary to determine that?

As many folks probably know by now, RayForce has recently recieved a new port alongside it's sequels. I've spent a little bit of time playing this port and am curious as to how it could be incorporated onto the leaderboards. The Ray'z port seems to perform better than playing on MAME and is far more accessible to a larger audience. The upcoming Steam version should further enhance that. We'll likely need to come up with some rules for running this port though. Primarily regarding rapid-fire, as there's a 30 shots/second feature that could be a bit unfair to MAME players. To demonstrate what I mean, here's a recording with that enabled:

In the meantime, I'll withhold the other run I recorded. This one seems to run 1:1 with MAME, via an enabled PCB Rapid-fire option. I don't quite understand everything; but, it felt far closer to legit.

Hello, I would like to request moderation for RayForce (https://www.speedrun.com/RayForce). I have submitted a run (a very crude one, but still a run), but since there is NO Moderator (since I am unable to contact the previous moderator, @fepnascimento ... who seems to have disappeared from the site) I do not believe any run can be verified.

Hello, a couple hours ago I stumbled upon this page. I didn't know that RayForce finally got a SR.c page (had previously looked before March this year); and, I decided to see how well I could do with a speedrun of the game. Half and hour later, I check back in after a casual attempt... and the existing run is gone and there is no moderator. What on earth is going on here?

A true "100%" run of the game would indeed need at least two, maybe even 3, complete run-throughs of the game to get every tank alone (as the alternate missions grant you different tanks)... nevermind amassing the funds to buy every part. We're looking at a possible two to two and a half hour run at a glance. I won't say that it isn't an intresting idea, and it's not like other games have done similar. All three routes back-to-back in Star Fox 64/ Lylat Wars anyone?

Well, the emulator tag is meant for unofficial emulators. More than likely you'd just submit it as "PS3" (since the PS3's emulation is official software)... assuming the moderators here toggle that as an option.

No adblockers at all, though probably submitting at 3:00a.m. Eastern Time may have not helped me in the submission.

Well, that was certainly strange. Could have swore I had put the proper video link where it should have been... yet what I saw was the TITLE of the video instead of the link. Fixed that, sorry for the trouble.

You may want to look here. https://www.speedrun.com/Sonic_CD_2011

Good luck on the PC building and happy playing.

(this board is for the original Sega/Mega CD release, the 1996 port for Windows 95, and the port on Sonic Gems Collection)

Hello, I had previously attempted to route Bug Too! (the sequel to Bug!). I have been unable to continue since October last year due to IRL issues, and my Sega Saturn console having severe problems. However, I have seen another runner complete an any% speedrun via an emulator. Is it possible to add the game, with a separation between console and emulated runs, with this run... or will a console run be required before the game can be added?

If memory serves, all individual level times for all Sonic games (barring Sonic Mania and perhaps Sonic Forces) were submitted through The Sonic Center website. I am not certain that this will change anytime soon.

Title pretty much says it, I was wondering exactly which DS emulators are approved for use in Dawn/Dusk runs?

For that matter, what would you consider an "emulated" run outside the obvious PC choices. Would you count PS3 (launch editions obviously) runs as emulated?

discussione: Sonic the Hedgehog
Ohio, USAMetalVolt7 years ago

In regards to the plug-and-plays... wouldn't that fall under emulated Genesis anyways, since they're pretty much glorified (and often badly at that) emulators? Either way, better off at that point to either run on Kega Fusion or find a compilation disc for a newer game console/PC.

I happened to notice that both submitted runs use this tank. Is this a case of preference or is this more for the sake of consistency?
