I'll add that at present for creating the individual level leaderboards IGT (In Game Time) will probably be used indeed of RTA (Real Time Attack,).
Good day everyone my name is Mageius, (Twitch.tv/Mageius1) Anyway figured I'd try to provide my thoughts as far as the leaderboard is going as well as what's planned since at present I'm still updating and make the leaderboards look better. I figured I'd also provide my reasoning behind some of the stuff in case anyone would be interested since at present it's just me.
The Invincibility glitch is banned namely as it's just too cheap and feels almost like just using the cheat code that does the same thing
RTA (Real Time Attack) is because I found when trying to figure out which would be better RTA or IGT it turned out that RTA when timing starting at pressing continue at the start of a mission and stopping time at the end end of a mission was just fastest by a decent amount from the IGT. Also the fact that switching VTs and the like is part of the run.
Don't worry those interested in doing IL and running in EASY and HARD those are going to be added at some point alongside a 100% category.
If you're wondering why the WEWILLWIN categories it's because as I said it feels like it would be something people would want to run and could act as an arcade mode of sorts.
From my experience owning both the PS2 and GameCube version the GCN version doesn't seem to have as many glitches and makes a lot more consistent to speedrun.
I'm not sure the best way to handle emulator submissions yet, but we'll figure it out for people wanting to submit them. Just remember emulsion exclusive functions are banned and that you have to show your playing in emulator.
Anyway that's really all I can think of at present but anyone interested in running the game you are welcome to DM. I'd love to see more people be aware of the game as well as the series itself.
Please Note, I'll try to keep everyone updated on anything as creating a speedrun community is always hard.
No problem. I mean the GC-STYLE having access to using the C stick alone as a macro for all the command inputs feels a little too..........., not to mention the fact that all the face buttons basically are sorta macros for Roll, counter and other things.
thanks for the info, so stupid question here I have the GCN version of the game (like anyone else that's a fighting game player) I most likely won't use it but is the broken GC-style of controls allowed?
You know the "beginner" control set that's really simple and kinda broken for a speedrun since you don't have to use command inputs and the like that's completely unfair because of how fast you can enter things in. (edit: fixed a type)
So I'm thinking of trying my hand at the run in normal using the default grove options, round limits and the like. So sorta stupid question here but is there any reason other than leaderboard clutter and that no one has really submitted something like that for why there's not a default stop category like this? !, I'm assuming there's also nothing as far as having to do all the fights)
So just wondering and figured I'd ask here vs asking on the discord. has RNG manipulation been found yet for guaranteeing which of the rare blade and pity break groups you are in when creating your file? You know the, theses are you're guaranteed rare blades and the odds for the other ones.
I've got 1 for up through adventure world which is 2/3rds of the game. Since the SNES version sorta allows for possible individual level runs due to it only being 3 full worlds I'm thinking of having full game + that. (AlthoughI haven't figured out whether or not it's worth making all levels needed to be completed for individual worlds or just as fast as possible for each world. I mean it's still about 5-10 mins for the minimum for each at present. But I'll do that when I get a chance as far as submitting for a separate leaderboard.
okay so know it sounds stupid but I'm planning on running the SNES version of the game. We at least the first two worlds as a partial game category at least until I finish routing Fantasy. Should I create a new game leaderboard as a standalone or would it be better to include the SNES version as part of a series alongside the GB version?
Also for full game leaderboard is any% and 100% supposed to 1 category with all three things being subcategories or 2 main categories with ScrewAttack banned list and no banlist being separate subcategories for each?
Ah thanks, I'll have to see about getting a run together then
So what categories are considered New game and which New game plus?
Well that's assuming if there's something similar to this in the run.
So I found an actual copy of the game and bought it. How fun is the run anyway?
Ah, so nothing special to really learn as far as tech goes then that's good. If I think of anything else to ask I'll ask. As far as switch vs PC your probably right. The only thing I could think of is maybe load times. Though I'll let you know after I play it casually.
Good afternoon everyone. So I picked this game off the Nintendo eShop a couple of days back as it looked like a good game to livestream due to well the LMAO mature of the game's concept. Anyway although I'm at present only think of playing it casually I do speedrun other games so kinda thought I'd ask a few questions before playing if casually in case I decide to do a 12 hour challenge for it.
Anyway,
- Any major pieces of tech for the game?
- What exactly would a NG for it be if I do a run?
- Anything thing else that it's worth knowing ether for a casual playthrough or for the speedrun?
As I said before I plan to decide once I'm done playing it casually but figured I'd ask as I didn't notice anyone had submitted a run on the switch.
Like yourself I am someone who enjoys creating and exploring new games to create speedruns for so trust me I know how you feel. Anyway I can think of a few interesting games that might work for you but they don't seem to meet all of the different things you're looking for but each do hit some. Anyways:
Robin Hood: Prince of thieves (NES) t's based on the movie from the 90's and is an interesting top down action RPG. There's only really been 1 run from years back and is under an hour.
The Pagemaster (SNES): It's based off the movie and is s platformer. It's actually been on my own list to explore and see about creating a speedrun for. It's got some interesting things and could make for something fun.
I'd also recommend looking into any of the licensed games, as well as some of the handheld versions of games. Mind you I'm not the best speedrunner myself but I can offer at least 1 piece of advice, find something you think might be fun as a speedrun or that you think would be interesting to figure out and route. Even if you don't ever speed run the game it's always worth exploring how it could be do. Besides getting someone interested in trying new games is also part of speedrunning.
There are actually quite a few RPGs that can't have leaderboards simply due to the fact that they have nudity. (Trust me on that point (thanks younger me for actually trying to find things like that when I was younger)). LMAO some are actually decent. But yeah sadly not possible to have leaderboards. Then again I'm not sure or not but most likely not if having still images of some mild things isn't possible.
All depends on how I feel about my games at the time if I'd like to submit. Lol well and if they want to give me about 4.5 hours for my run. And yes that actually is a valid est. For day of Reckoning.
Cool thanks for the info.
Bump
Thanks for the clarification as this is just the backup if anything happens to the main sign up. though I wish I could edit the name to show it.
