Prepping for my upcoming run at SGDQ, and did some new timings of the "unskippable" cut scenes for NewGame+

As we know now, if you play through the levels with the cutscenes in question before doing your run, without turning your device off, they become skippable the next time you encounter them.

All told, it takes me about 24-26 minutes to play through those levels and watch the needed cutscenes.

If this isn't possible, and you have to do the run with the cutscenes in question, they'll add about 4 minutes and 13 seconds to your run. (Give or take, with loading times etc.)

Which, honestly - not too bad! You just won't be setting a new record (unless you've got some WILD secret tech haha)

If you're doing the setup you'll need to play through:

• Freeze Copter
• Promethium Fire
• Plant Electrocution 3
• Gasworks
• Swat Chase
• Funnibones

and watch the cutscenes that come after them.

Right before bed last night, I realized I had just been launching it off of the disk image without ever actually installing it facepalm - I imagine that was the issue, will know tonight!

Has anyone trying to run the PC version on Windows 10 had issues with it not actually saving?

Specifically, this only seems to work currently on the PAL Gamecube version? Very strange.

edit I was able to get the first two to work on a NTSC Gamecube copy, I think it's just way trickier at 60hz?

There's a good chance you've seen it already in Speedrun news, but therun.gg is an awesome tool for speedrunners and tracking data and stuff. I've been loving using it, and I'd highly recommend everyone trying it out!

You can manually upload your splits or even install the Livesplit integration that does it for you.

I love this game so much, I've mostly been working on NewGame+ runs but hope to return to Any% soon to get a better time posted.

When should the timer technically be started? Should it end right when the credits start playing?

and is there a reason that PC version isn't listed as an option? That would be easiest for me to record, though I could probably make it work with my PS5.

So recently, someone pointed out on one of my YT videos that in NewGame+ you can just walk past the Joker and get to the gas mixing in the final level, which is a decent time save there!

The same concept applies for the Trenchcoat Plant fight in Plant Electrocution 2 - we were originally getting an intentional death to despawn the mayor, but instead, you can just hop up to the walkway and walk past him.

Kind of a facepalm moment for me, honestly! Like, duh, in NewGame+ you have all the keys for doors already so of course you should be able to get through those doors haha.

I think those are the two relevant skips related to that, but I'll post here and in the Discord if I think of anything else.

I think Story Mode runs with the full level 10 characters as a New Game Plus sounds super fun.

Hi everyone! My name is Joe, and I’m the new mod around these here parts. I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself and talk a bit about the future of this board.

Batman: Vengeance, as silly as it is, is one of my favorite games ever. I didn’t start trying to speedrun it until right around the beginning of the pandemic, but once I did I was hooked! It’s a fun run and I think it has a lot of potential.

I had to take a break from practicing during a lengthy moving process, but I kept thinking about the game and how we could continue to flesh out the rules and such.

I sent a bunch of ideas out in the Discord, offering to help in any way I could, and our awesome mod let us know that he’d had a kid recently and was looking to step back completely for the time being - asking me to take his place. Shoutouts to Lu-I, and congratulations on your new child! We’re all wishing you the best.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be fleshing out the rules and information on this board, reworking the Discord a bit, and of course I’ll be working on my run!

This is a very small (but growing!) community, and I imagine the rules will evolve over time as we grow. I’m pulling from other games and discussions had amongst our few runners right now, and I think we’ll end up in a solid place. If you have ideas, feedback, or whatever - I’m all ears! We’ll build this up together as a community.

What are you running the PC version on? I tried to get it working on my Windows 10 machine without any luck. I'm going to get to try it on an actual Windows XP machine this weekend to mess around with it, but that sounds like a pain to record a run on.

I haven't tested the Xbox version yet, but I have one on the way and will let you know when it comes in!

How bad is the PC port? I have a copy, but haven't sat down to test it yet because I've just been playing on my Cube instead.
