A King's Tale would get its own game entry in the larger FF series. I would imagine that more people will get interested once the game has a more public release as opposed to the limited pre-order bonus it is currently.
For the route discussions, there's a discord server where that kind of stuff is taking place, you can check it out here: http://www.speedrun.com/ffxv/thread/cow4s
Should work now, we set the release date on the page for the full game and didn't realise that was going to affect anything. Sorry about that
So I still have one problem/question with the layout, which is why you're using Difficulty as Top-level categories. To me, it makes more sense to have the Endings be the top-level (Nihilism/Chaos/Law/Neutral), and then Difficulty/NG+ be the sub-category. I think it's a lot clearer for people to find the run they want to watch (since they're more likely to recognise endings than difficulties), and makes more sense to keep runs of the same game route together, even if difficulty affects the run. Also it makes All Endings look less out of place, since it is an Ending and not a Difficulty.
If people start running it then we can add it, but until someone does a run we won't include it just so there isn't an empty page. That being said, I do recommend running on 3rd or Infinite Climax. Once you learn the game, both of those difficulties are pretty easy, and 2nd climax wouldn't be significantly faster than 3rd.
Difficulty is only locked if you choose Lunatic, which is only available after beating the game once over. Any other difficulties you can switch between on the fly from the settings menu.
"(and yes Ahramanyu, it is disk :p) " Nope, optical media is Disc (And as such, the media that this refers to). Disk is used for magnetic storage such as HDD/SSD.
There's already an existing discord for the Ty series, you can join it here: https://discord.gg/0u4AaH1ov71LD22u
Not only should you avoid bootloaders, but you should also use an actual game disc instead of a DVD you've burnt yourself.
I meant in an optimal any% route, you can't really skip the berserker lord room in 100% with current routes. In theory a 100% route that uses the spire wallcrawl to skip the bomb components could work out faster but there isn't really a working version of that route at the moment.
PAL has a couple of glitches fixed over NTSC. Specifically skipping the berserker lord fight in east elysia, and the phaaze seedling having more health are the main 2 that impact runs, although the berserker lord change doesn't matter if you do the optimal route since that area is skipped entirely. There's some other stuff that doesn't matter as much for the run such as piston hall being changed to remove the way to get OoB from it. Also seeker missiles work better on PAL.
Also I feel the need to clarify something as this seems to be misunderstood by a lot of people (and the title of the thread doesn't help but I can't change that)
THESE ARE NOT RULES THAT ARE GOING/HAVE GONE INTO EFFECT. THEY ARE MERELY SUGGESTIONS. PLEASE POST IN THIS THREAD YOUR OPINIONS ON THEM IF YOU WISH FOR POINTS TO BE DISCUSSED.
Since personally I have not run any of the games the rules are directly meant to affect, I don't really have much to say here, although most of my thoughts are directed to points 9/10, and a minor point about timing method.
My minor point is that JP timing is inherently flawed for PC runs, and therefore should not be used. There's also the issue of JP timing having more problems with newer consoles (PS3 and higher, Xbox 360 and higher, Wii and higher) since those systems don't directly boot into the game, but rather into their own OS layer beforehand, and are therefore far from consistent.
As for point 9, Setting a games rules by default before any runs or work exists seems inherently naïve to me. As time goes on and games change, there will never be a consistent start and end point to a game, and so it should be decided on a per-game basis at the point that the community begins work on the game.
For point 10, I in some ways agree with the sentiment, that all active runners should be approached for major discussions. However, I think that there are issues both in only allowing a week, and that people without a time cannot contribute to the discussion. There are plenty of people active within the community that don't have the time to do full runs, or are much happier helping with routing and strat development as well as supporting the runners. Preventing those people from having an opinion and a voice within the community seems overly restrictive to me, as it's a relatively arbitrary goal.
The link to verify runs on the awaiting approval page seems to be broken. It just links to the run page instead of the verify link.
I'd definitely be down for playing some GH/RB.
It would also be cool if we could get enough people to have like a battle of the bands kind of thing.
Well the event is over now, and while we may think it went pretty well, we'd like to hear any and all feedback you have!
So it's not exactly the right topic but I didn't think it warranted a new thread - Something very strange is going on with Grid 2 - http://www.speedrun.com/Grid_2/full_game
Seems like a load of people have been added to it as super mod, including me. I know nothing about the game and I'm willing to bet a decent amount of the others don't either so I don't really get what's happening.
