I don't have this problem of it slowly de-syncing over the course of the run, and I use the v1.4.0 version. But my kinda not so good computer sometimes de-syncs the audio from time to time if I'm streaming and recording and playing the game sometimes, which is usually corrects itself after a few seconds so it's not too bad.

@owen5560 I asked Maru, and he has confirmed that there are 2 frames of leeway if you beat 8-2 perfectly without L+R. This means, that you don't have to do double fast accel, you would only need the normal perfect fast accel. It would even leave you with 1 frame of leeway at the end if that is when the bullet shot. With this 1 frame of leeway, it takes off just that much pressure from having to do the pipe jump perfectly, making it just that much easier (a little bit)

Knowing that you need perfect fast accel, an almost perfect pipe jump, and perfect BBG, 8-2 framerule is most likely an easier framerule to go for than 4-2, making 4:54 just that much more viable for those people who will go for it in the future (whoever they are).

@owen5560 Bismuth said himself "the main problem with the 8-2 framerule is that just like 8-1 there are no frames to spare", you might be getting confused with the L+R TAS. If there were frames of leeway then 8-2 would be considered either equally as hard as 8-1 or even easier, as you only have to do a perfect fast accel (instead of double), an extremely good pipe jump (that you can even lose 1 frame on) and perfect timing of hitting BBG (which is not that hard, just a couple frame perfect jumps. We do FPG all the time)

Even HappyLee has said himself that he has tried to do 8-2 framerule save RTA, and was unsuccessful because it was just still too slow even with 1st frame shot of bullet bill (which I just as equally don't understand as both his RTA rules TAS and Maru's RTA rules TAS get the optimal 8-2 framerule)

Please, if you have evidence that you can have 2 frames of leeway after beating 8-2 literally perfectly without using L+R, show us, because that would be absolutely 100% revolutionary for future 4:54 attempts, as that would be the go to framerule over 4-2.

@owen5560 Thank you for expanding on your opinion from earlier But hold on a second, there's no way you could have 2 frames of leeway RTA after saving a framerule in 8-2, otherwise that would be way way way way way way way more RTA viable and in fact that would be more considered much more doable than 4-2. Also in the video it says "the main problem with the 8-2 framerule is that just like 8-1 there are no frames to spare", so I'm curious, where did you get 2 frames of leeway from?

@Darpey It wouldn't be nice if you had to bounce off an enemy to do FPG in 1-1, I'm more consistent at FPG than BBG (30% vs 18%, no thank you) @darG It's not impossible to manipulate cointoss, you can have some sort of say in cointoss by being consistent in your inputs like zsjetu9 said. I once was more than 50% consistent at beating cointoss when I was going for 456, but now my consistency went a little oomfonninf, so I gotta get back to 8-2 pracc.

A game genie can give you kind of save states I believe, I think eddiecatgaming used it so he could start at the beginning of levels. Not exactly save states, and I don't know if it's any cheaper than powerpak/everdrive.

The alternative is to just sticc with emulator because save states are pretty good Keepo

I've made a TAS that has done it, so it is definitely 100% possible. You just have to make adjustments and mess with button presses until you find something that works. I think what I did was press left for a few frames for the backward jump to perform walljump.

I appreciate your ambitious idea, and there should be more people like you in this community who have such ambition. If you could show people examples of difficult segments being pulled off (e.g: Perfect 4-2) that may help people believe Also I liked that video you made, can you repost it?

Back then, it wasn't even considered possible until AndrewG found glitches that save massive amounts of time. He then became the first person to achieve a time under 5 minutes in any% Now, 9 years later, a full 100 different people have their sub 5 runs verified on this leaderboard! Unfortunately nobody has a tutorial for 420 blazit, the best there is would be this video you can look at to get an idea of what to do. I don't remember but it took me quite a few hours just to pull off FPG for the very first time for the whole tricc. Sockfolder rom is not a rom I used at the time which is kinda silly but it is useful for feedback.

However, on the most recent practice rom v4.1 that is probably the best place to go to learn how to FPG, as that will freeze the game the moment you make a mistake, and tell you the exact mistake you made.

For BBG, wait -7.12 seconds from reset if you have the single game cartridge/rom, or when you select Super Mario Bros. in a multi cartridge/rom thing. From there play the game up to 8-2 perfectly meaning optimal play with no hard tricks (meaning 420 blazit, FPG, 1-2g, etc.) and bop the 2 koopas that nearly everybody who has a sub 5 (except for me) bop in order to setup for BBG. Then, I recommend doing something along the lines of this setup (That's the Down+Right setup btw, and I did a full jump out of the "saddle (as Darpey calls it, I don't know what to call it)" followed by another full jump perfectly timed)

Alright, now we've got the technical stuff out of the way, lets talk about the mental

FPG is very hard, requiring a whopping 4 frame perfect inputs to pull off. Like the other people who refused to answer your question say is not a bad idea, getting that sicc sub 5 time before starting to imagine your future as a top level 4:55 WR holder and taking action by beginning to practice those ridiculously hard tricks of FPG, 1-2g, 420 blazit. If you are going for FPG for fun, go for it man, it doesn't matter what everyone else says if your goal is to have fun and you're having fun grinding those hard tricks. The day you decide that you're going to get consistent however is a whole different story.

@youtubeman06 You would totally be the person to try and find setups, I see you going all over the place looking for other ways to do things like 4-4 clip and 1-2 clip setup and then telling everyone, you could do the same for this PogChamp
