Nope, that first card you mentioned was for a Mac, or so a couple quick google searches say. Probably just Mac-supported.
The Honesttech Vidbox captures composite, and the elgato HDMI. Since it's for Mac, I probably can't bring my AVerMedia C027 cause I'd have nothing to hook it up to. Kappa
Unless there's an adapter with the elgato, that's a problem. I don't want to bring my composite cables, cause that's trash quality. Will if I have to, just prefer not to.
Since nothing about equipment has been mentioned yet, I figured I would ask:
- What kind of capture setup is being planned/implemented? I plan on bringing my component cables for my PSP, and want to make sure it'll work.
- Does anyone else attending have a PSP they are willing to bring, and if so, have any multiplayer games we could do on the side? I have Dissidia, Duodecim, and War of the Lions.
- What other systems should be brought as backups? I have NES (AVS, actually), SNES, PS2, and Wii. Also have PS3 but don't want to lug that around.
- Kittens?
- Bacon?
NES: Nestopia or FCEUX should be acceptable. PS: Probably bizhawk? GBA: VBA-M? PSP: PPSSPP
So now that the event has ended, and a few days have passed since the event, I think we can cover what went right and wrong. I made a pastebin detailing my thoughts, but I'll post the contents as well.
Midwest Speedfest retrospective:
The event itself: It was an awesome event, and my only complaint about it as a whole was more people couldn't or didn't come.
The good: Game selection was very diverse, and several games that I didn't think I would enjoy I thoroughly enjoyed. For the most part, we never got too far behind or ahead of schedule. Internet was awesome, and aside from us accidentally cutting the stream once towards the end, 0 DROPPED FRAMES FOR THE DURATION. 2Dcon. :edit: Met a lot of awesome people that I wish I could've spent more time talking to. :edit: Extra Life raised over $5000 for Children's Miracle Network. DAMN.
The bad: Don't need to harp on this because we already knew, but the audio setup was not as good as it should have been. Steps are being taken. Jubeat was literally right behind the tech setup, or at least the acoustics of the building made it sound that way. The cabinets were about 40 feet away in the hallway, but they always sounded like they were literally right behind the tech setup. In the vendor room, I came across one group selling gobs of SNES games and a few N64 games. In the middle of the table, I see a bunch of carts with artwork I hadn't seen before. Upon closer examination, I see that they're rom hacks, all for $40 a pop. Super Metroid: Redesign, Rockman & Forte, FF5 (not the SFC cart, likely the RPGe translation), and Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes were among the choices. I didn't get any pictures. :( :edit: Anti-shoutouts to Sonic Adventure 2's volume. :edit: Anti-shoutouts to Megaman X3 for BEING LOUDER THAN Sonic Adventure 2. DIDN'T THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE.
Looking forward to the next one!
Ok, so now that we're getting pretty close to go time, I wish to inquire about what kind of equipment that will need to be brought.
I'm planning on the following: PSP 3000, component cables, charger, and SNES controller.
I have a multi-input switch I can bring, but it's kinda starting to go on the fritz. It does composite, component, and S-Video.
I also have a Radioshack 4-way splitter, which does composite and component.
I also recently picked up a 2-way HDMI splitter. For HDMI cable length, I have one that's 15 feet, and another that's 30.
For consoles, I have an NES, SNES, Wii (gamecube support), and PS2.
What, if anything, should I bring?
Well crap. I had already registered at 2dcon before I got the DM about the discount. I haven't booked a room yet, cause I'm unsure if that discount should apply or not?
There is a discount applied, but I guess today is the last day to get it (yikes!)
So I'm booked for Friday-Sunday, and I have a 2-bed room in case someone wants to split costs.
Gonna make a bump to this since it doesn't look like it was announced here: SCHEDULE IS UP!
Ooooooh, ok, I know what you're talking about now. The whole Canal Park/Park Point area is a bit of a convoluted mess, and it can be rather difficult to pinpoint anything.
1.) Our current tech setup utilizes an Avermedia Live Gamer Portable for HD capture
Ooooh, looks purty.
and Dazzle DVC100 for SD capture.
Ow, I'm sorry.
I have misplaced my Component cable input for the LGP, and I will be looking at getting this replaced before the event. If that ends up not being possible, I'll make sure to work out a solution with you to get Component capture to work.
Well, I also have composite cables for my PSP, but... ¤shudder¤ I'd strongly prefer not to use that. Composite needs to die where possible. :p At least the PSP does 480p, and that resolution is supported. I'll bring both sets of cables just in case.
Bring in anything that you feel you will help bring you the greatest success in showcasing your runs.
Sanity isn't required, is it? :p
Awesome, thanks for the response.
You talking about the aquarium next to the DECC? Well, I guess that's called Amsoil Arena now... Yeah, that place is pretty rad.
HOPEFULLY road construction doesn't shut down half the city this summer again ¤ahem¤
Alright, working on my submissions now. But I have some questions regarding equipment.
-
What kind of capture device(s) are currently available? I do component capture on my PSP, and if it's not at the hotel I'll have to bring my splitter and PC with me. May end up doing that anyway for backup purposes, but it helps to know.
-
Is there any equipment that is needed that I should bring, other than has been mentioned? Here's what I have that is available: Multi-input switch (kinda on the fritz), has composite, S-Video, and component Radioshack 4-way distribution amplifier which has composite and component. Playstation 2, SNES, Playstation 3, NES, Nintendo Wii, and PSP.
PC specs: 3.4 GHz quad-core i5, 20 GB ram, 2 GB graphics card, AVerMedia C027 capture card, Microsoft something-or-other HD webcam, and 7 TB of hard drive space (I need more...).
- I may need to bring my TV with me, will this be a problem? It's an LED 23" with a certain frame latency that I'm pretty used to and don't want to mess with if I can help it.
Well, I'm comfortable doing RBO, but Lower Norfair tends to give some problems because I'll either screw up post-GT, or Ridley will just troll like the troll that he is. Once or twice Draygon will be two tries.
I'm comfortable doing Super Metroid and MMX, but as I've said, there are people far superior than me at either of those games.
Thanks for the input :)
So I've been thinking about this for a while now. I have no idea what game I could submit for this. Most of the games I play are bad watches or aren't marathon material (Dynasty Warriors 4, Road Runner's Death Valley Rally, Dissidia, etc). The games I'm decent at, people are far superior at (Megaman X, Super Metroid, DKC2). The one game I'm REALLY REALLY GODLIKE at (FF1 for the PSP) I can't seem to get in a marathon, yet others don't seem to have any trouble. ¤cough, looks in another sites' general direction¤
So, help me out here. I don't know what to do.
Times and videos: Dynasty Warriors 4: Wu Musou mode Expert difficulty PB is currently 22:09 (link) RRDVR is 23:41, haven't touched this one in a while (link) Dissidia has many categories, but the one I mainly do is Inward Chaos with Cloud, current PB is 28:58 (link). I've also run runs with Sephiroth, but my PB with him is 1:06:01 and isn't nearly as consistent (link) MMX 100% PB is 39:01, if I stay practiced I'm usually around 41-42 minutes (link) SM 100% PB is 1:29:50 (link), and I'm usually hovering around 1:31. RBO PB is 2:08:17, but that never goes right and I'm usually hovering around 2:30 (link) DKC2 I'm very much out of practice, PB is 52:26 but I'm lucky if I can cut an hour right now. FF1 any% for PSP I've been getting 1:40 or better as of late, mainly due to RNG. (PB link and the attempt afterwards) If RNG really sucks, 1:40 is about what to expect. There's also an all bosses, but my PC hardlocked on me during my run with crrool so I don't know my exact time, but it was around 6 hours. (crrool's video as an example)
