I don't believe so. I wanna say it was delisted back in 2011...
Hey, everyone! Thanks to the awesome might of RottDawg and Garadas, the 360 version now has its own leaderboard. We felt this version deserved its own board due to some of the timing differences that are present in contrast to the original arcade PCB/emulator, plus the fact that dip switches can't be toggled and that every setting is set to default. Feel free to submit your runs here!
Hello! At the suggestion of an up-and-coming runner, I've taken the opportunity to develop a tutorial for running this game.
I know I've requested 1CC categories in other games, but this time I come prepared with a video to start the category, at least. This also has the benefit of containing a great glitch in Stage 2 that saves 30 seconds, so it can be used in Any% as well. The final time per Avidemux was a 22:22.
Can we make this a thing?
Zerst honestly should be the one to submit this. I'm working on my own time for it now, but it won't be as good as his (when I made this post, my time was in the low 30s, and his PB is like a 20:xx which makes mine look completely obsolete).
It's a great category though, and I should have my own run ready to be able to submit here soon. But definitely take Zerst's when he's ready to post his VOD.
EDIT: I finally have an applicable run of 23:05, so my run along with Zerst's would be a good start for this category. To answer the original question, 2P JP would likely be the best intended version to use.
I see it now. Definite swag death. Can't imagine it saves time, but sure.
It looks like this was touched on in a thread this past year, so I'm looking to ask about it again. If there's any consideration to this being added given how different the run is, that could be really cool. I even have a run ready to add that was played on the 2P JP ROM with a time of 31:xx.
It doesn't look like there have been any requests made for this in the past, so I'll be the first: is it possible to have a board created for the arcade version of Batman Forever? It's playable on MAME, plus it was ported to the Playstation and Saturn. I do 1CC runs of the arcade version via emulator and it would be cool to see players come up with some speed strats. There could also potentially be separation for runs of Batman and runs of Robin, since they both play so differently.
Thoughts? Considerations?
I just watched GJJJGJJJ's 2nd place Any% run, and considering the fact that it's Deathless, shouldn't it also be added as the WR for that misc. category? It contains a lot of relevant strats that other players can use, not to mention the fact that it's almost 7 minutes faster than the only other recorded run.
Sure, don't see why not.
I believe this was asked in the past following the removal, but I feel it needs to be reviewed: why were the 1CC categories removed for this game and for TMNT arcade?
This has been discussed on the Double Dragon discord at length, and I'm definitely in agreement. The rules that define Any% for this game are shaky at best, and while I'm all for a 1cc category, they really should be split into two separate categories. I'm also of the opinion that having each category broken down my character is a tad arbitrary, but that's neither here nor there. At the end of the day, I definitely stand with the side of "prove it" and await the decision of the moderator committee.
Your run is still being investigated, since it's a pending World Record time. I've actually wanted to speak with you about this run in particular regarding a few things, however you've been impossible to get ahold of. I even added you on Discord as a friend because I was hoping to direct message you and get this straightened out, but you never accepted it.
Keeping yourself completely out of contact through social media isn't going to help your case, I'm afraid.
Good afternoon! For the upcoming MAMEcathlon event on RGLTV, I decided to put together a tutorial for the speedrun of this game (death abuse and all). I've linked it in the Guides section of the leaderboard. Hope everyone finds it useful!
Hey, everyone. I appreciate your patience in allowing me to get some availability to get this all together. It's... still not perfect, but the knowledge is all there. We even learned some things along the way. Message me on Twitter or Twitch if you have any questions!
I'm looking into finally learning this game as a proper speedrun, and I was hoping to have some questions answered regarding the optimal version of this game to run.
For starters, why are all of the best times on emulator? Does it actually run faster than original hardware?
This one's a bit trickier... if I choose to run the game on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, is there any discernible difference between the PS3 and X-Box 360 versions to place one over the other? The only info I have regarding this is that the PC version is apparently best avoided.
Any and all information/answers would help. Thanks so much to anyone and everyone for their time!
It's actually fairly rhythmic. The way I do it is alternating button presses between Y and R. It took me some practice, but I eventually got the hang of it. The first Catwoman boss and the final Penguin boss are the hardest to stunlock properly since they can give themselves iframes, but it's certainly doable, as the WR video shows.
As it also turns out, I'm going to be doing a tutorial for this game which should explain it further, but I've been severely sidetracked since returning from AGDQ. I'm hoping to have it finished before the end of February, so we'll see.
Well, as I mentioned in my second post, a separate category for special controllers would probably be the right call, I would think. NES d-pads and PC controllers simply can't compete with that kind of d-pad mashing speed. It would likely take a keyboard to get on pace with that.
I redacted my post about emulators in general, as I feel those are fine overall. Emulators have inherent downsides that are generally accepted for their upsides (more affordable, easier access, easier to stream).
Now, in the current state, the WR is beatable on original hardware, and I don't even mind having to grind to do it. The problem would come from the possibility of the run being topped again to something unbeatable by a controller. So yes, for specialized controllers (i.e. touch screen, keyboard), I'm all for a separation, if that's an option.
EDIT: Is it not possible to add sub-categories for each current category, one for standard and one for specialized controllers? Or what about adding specialized controllers as a misc category and moving it there? Does it necessarily have to be a difference between original hardware and emu? That's not really the schism.
