Yeah most threads like this end this way. idk why people post the same thing that has been said 10 times already.

A leaderboard dominated by meme game runners with day 1 PBs

Great idea.

If it was only released on UMD it makes no sense to work around this to have it run faster. That's like running a ps2 game off a hard drive instead of off the disc

Try contacting one of the game's two mods on twitter.

If the goal is to make it harder for cheaters to get through then it seems like it IS a solution. Applying tougher rules for only the very top runners will affect those that are serious about meeting the requirements anyways.

No real proof? The reality is some games can be cheated well enough to where "100% proof" of cheating would never be possible. What's the solution at that point? Requiring a file for emulator runs and requiring the run to be done live seems reasonable to me. Can't speak on whatever file it is that they want, but even streaming your run live can't prove full legitimacy, but it's a good step towards building trust.

Rejected only after the rules were applied? Might seem unfair to those that submitted before the rules change, but I think it's the right decision. Example would be if a moderator forgot to include a detail like disallowing save states (MK1 Rules don't mention save states) then couldn't someone submit a segmented/TAS run and pass it off as RTA? It's not against the rules. In that situation you would place a reminder in the rules not to do that and reject the run. As for formerly accepted runs that don't meet the new rules requirement, it's really up to the discretion of the moderators what runs should stay or go. Really to out right remove a run because of a rule change seems pretty unfair, which is why adjusting the rules before accepting or rejecting runs just makes more sense.

Also your mention of holding a poll on the MK forum is a bad idea. Not only is manipulating a poll extremely easy, but sometimes moderators have to make decisions not everyone agrees with for the sake of the board.

Determine how much time you want to dedicate to a speedrun first. Pokemon games can eat up an entire afternoon of your life both learning the game, and speedrunning it.

Also, for a lot of people speedrunning "ruins" the game a bit. You won't be able to truly play it again casually, and you might grow to dislike the game, which is bad if it's your favorite game. This isn't true of everyone, just something to consider.

Plenty of short speedruns out there that are fairly beginner friendly.

Most recent run verified was yesterday and Lafungo was online only an hour ago. The board is also very small. I handle a larger leaderboard by myself and I'm fairly busy.

Understandable. If you do look into capture cards just know you can spend anywhere from 30 to 300 and beyond, all up to you really.

Ask there. Though pointing a camera at your TV should be acceptable so long as you can see what is happening.

Dogbones suck. The dpad while bigger than a brick controller, is fairly sensitive and loose in my experience. You can try and return it if you want and see if it's just a fluke, but it's probably the way the controller works normally.

Can't help ya there then. The only real difference between a popular leaderboard and a smaller one is the number of runners. Unless you stumble upon a game that everyone interested in the game seems to suck at it. You're most likely going to always have competition. It's still the wrong approach. Beat the game you wanna run as fast as possible for yourself, not a stupid leaderboard.

LiveSplit is arguably the best timer for speedrunning, use that.

People speedrun shooters all the time. Quake was a big one. You don't necessarily have to play story mode in CoD to speedrun. Create goals/tasks/categories all your own if you want. Basically if you can set up a scenario where you can beat something fast, or slow, depending on how you play, then it can be speedrun. Exceptions of course are games that are on rails/autoscroll, since there's nothing to really speed up.

As far as looking for an unpopular or less popular game where you can get what looks like a more impressive position on the leaderboard, I would cancel that shit right now. It's the wrong reason to get into speedrunning tbh. If you want 1st place trophies though just submit a game or assume the mod role on a dead leaderboard, create a TON of categories as well as add individual level runs, and submit all your runs. Boom instant 50 WRs, you da best etc. wowweezowie

that MIGHT be an option if you can't shop online, but would probably cost more. Having said that, if your local game store will do that for you, the possibility of a refund might be there for faulty hardware.
