Hey, so yesterday, while procrastinating from my exam studies, I found this cycle skip you can do in two ways, on Creepy Corridor. The problem with this skip is that the normal path people use for speedrunning the level requires you to damage boost on the pumpkin at the prior gap which means that you will be in angry Donald mode, which makes it impossible to perform the skip. I'm not quite sure which cycle skip saves more time at the moment. Just thought I'd share my latest discovery.
Yes, the same thing goes for the second platform in the same level. My experience is that if you jump on the moose, you will get to the platform when it's moving towards you. However, if you jump over the moose or simply go straight by punching it, the platform will just start to move away from you when you reach it, rendering it easier to cross the gap. I am curious if you are able to do something similar with the first spike coffins at 3-3. You normally have to wait for the spikes to disappear here because you are angry Donald from performing the pumpkin skip earlier. If you could manipulate the cycles in some way, you could possibly save 1-2 seconds on this part!
I have been noticing a lot of anomalies concerning objects spawning, platforms starting to move etc. related to Donald's vertical height - The eggs at the Bernadette boss fight is a perfect example, where they spawn both faster and closer to Donald if he's in the air compared to when he isn't. I wonder if that has something to do with the bear falling down that hole, if it has to do with UIJess landing on the box in that fashion, or if it is something else. I haven't really tried running 100% yet, but I just might try it out, just to uncover what caused this.
So, while messing around at the Bernadette boss battle today, I stumbled upon this. Just a fun, weird glitch at the moment but could potentially lead to something bigger.
The last skip I know about is a chandelier skip in Ghostly Path. I have only seen Migoboi, former world record holder do it and I think it is because you have to be incredibly precise to pull it off. I have been practicing the two skips discussed above and been able to do them pretty consistently at this point. Therefore, I would say that the chandelier skip is the hardest one to do right now. I am still trying to figure out the right timing. From my attempts, the key point to keep track of is to perform a small jump as soon as Donald passes the corner of the bureau with the candlestick on it, to hit the hitbox of the star box at its rightmost border corner. Then just time your double jump right to get the most height. If done correctly, you will clip into the side of chandelier forcing Donald up on top of the chandelier. This eliminates the normal extra three jumps to just one without any backtracking, you can go full speed the whole time, saving maybe 2-3 seconds.
It would be interesting to get to know what triggers the platform to move. I have had multiple times where I have almost been able to reach the platform on its way up instead of having to wait for it to go down again, which would mean another small time save, if a speed boost on the way there would be possible.
Also, about what you wrote the other day, about some ledges giving you a speed boost; I have not ever gotten it to work with kicking. I have, however, gotten it to work when jumping late from platforms and ledges that are not straight. Also, if angled correctly, you are able to get a speed boost when jumping up into the end of certain roofs. I am still working out to get this to work consistently. There are places where these boosts assist you a lot and there are places where they do the opposite. I can't come with any video proof right now, but in The Roofs, for example, there are planks that give you a huge boost, however, you get boosted into an enemy, so at the moment it's not really that useful. You might be able to kill the enemy with a good timed punch, but I cannot confirm that yet. I will do my best to find the best way to approach that specific boost in the coming days.
So, I have pretty much managed to perfect the milkshake skip, after many attempts. It seems as though if you collect the milkshake at its leftmost border of the hitbox, the timing will be perfect if you keep Donald in the air as much as possible whenever the branch goes uphill.
Will try to implement this in a run as soon as possible.
