The PC version of CatCF is a totally different game. It's a point and click adventure that can be completed in about 50 minutes. Someone should create a new leaderboard for that game rather than have PC as a platform here.
Sidenote: Perhaps consider adding 100% as a category also.
I don't like the idea of abusing map file conversion bugs to allow for a faster route, since obviously the map author has no control over this.
I'm never going to run this category or game ever again, so I'll leave the ultimate decision up to you and the other mods. Just thought it might be worthwhile posting my two pence.
It's been evident from some recent submissions people are unclear as to what the speedrun rules are, so I will clear up a few things in this thread. I will begin by posting the Calmere Nightmare map rules below:
-
Do not wander into the forest or swamp unless instructed so, the wilderness here is dangerous
-
City centre (Gate past the bridge) is off limits, do not go there
-
No destroying blocks unless specifically allowed to (spawners can be destroyed)
-
Signs with a marking such as "1a" or "Dc" mean that you have to find the folder with the capital symbols and in that folder open the specific .txt file
-
Follow the tips and guidances given in the .txt files for best experiance
-
Play on peaceful unless otherwise instructed to maximise roleplay experiance
Note: This map can be played in multiplayer, but best experiance is achieved playing solo.
-
I suggest using a mod that turns off creeper spawning or removes their ability to destroy blocks because the explosions could destroy your game.
-
Pre-Release 1.9 v1 or later is required because of the use of snow golems as NPCs sorry for any incompabilities.
I will firstly address rule 3. One submission violated this rule by breaking an iron door located in the cave beneath the asylum. There was no instruction in the map notes which allowed this therefore it was an obvious rule violation. Obsidian and spawners are allowed to be broken in this area, not iron doors.
Rule 6 states the map should be played on peaceful unless otherwise instructed. Note 4a.txt before entering the asylum states the difficulty must be changed to at least easy. As you pass through the asylum in the speedrun, it is required you play on easy at this point. It's optional whether you change the difficulty before entering the asylum or play on at least easy for the entire attempt.
Finally, rule 8 (which displays as an emoticon) states any version released after beta 1.9 pre-release v1 is required to be used. This means runs in the most recent game versions are valid, however I think this should be open for discussion as it causes doors to be broken in certain parts of the map, allowing for players to pass through sooner than is intended.
Thanks for reading and I hope this cleared up a few things.
Since none of the moderators are really active or interested in making changes to this leaderboard, I want to appoint some new moderators. Please apply below or PM me on discord: Erlich Bachman#5186
The timing starts from clicking to enter the first level as it's considered the first input of the attempt. The time lost from pressing skip is perhaps ~.5 seconds, which isn't too big of an issue. As of right now, we will keep the standard timing the same, as if we were to change to pressing skip it would require all existing runs to be updated to be accurate according to the new standards.
If there's a large demand for change - the rules are malleable - but as of right now things will stay the same.
I covered this on my guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uOyNX3X7rEk4HjpCv54vHfMZ55KWtyEbg2lI35ts2RU/edit?usp=sharing
Yeah. It's not just a matter of hitting jump twice as fast as you can; there's a precise timing to it.
Just keep practicing and eventually it will just click; you'll start to get it much more consistently.
Recently I created a complete speedrun tutorial for Red Ball. I wanted to make it as in depth and thorough as possible, so the tutorial covers everything from what timer / recording software to use, to the strategies for each level, to submitting your time to speedrun.com.
Really hope this is useful to a lot of people as I put a lot of effort into this. (Use Mouse Button 3 to open in a new tab.)

Please use this thread to post any feedback or report any issues / changes to be made. Cheers.
Dying or restarting checkpoints doesn't disable the glitch.
On 13th April 2018 a new rule will be enforced making all runs faster than 4:30 require game audio to be enabled in the proof video, due to raised suspicions about the best times being potentially spliced.
Any existing runs faster than 4:30 without game audio enabled in the video will be removed on 12th April.
If this effects you, please provide a new submission with game audio enabled in the recording. Thank you.
Never been a fan of this idea as there's no in-game IL timer, but I'm not totally opposed to it.
If there's a decent demand for IL boards, I'll make them.
