So, skipping past all the middle discussion, the agreed upon emulator list was created years ago and hasn't had as much thought put into it as it should. I've already before seeing this post started to think of what we really should be requiring from emulators. Pretty sure Duckstation is going to end up being the only one on the list as it's already the one commonly used, but I have to figure out what settings and what things need to be shown from the emulator during runs.
This is alright with me, the main reason we had to do something in the first place was someone posting runs on an emulator that gave clear obvious advantages lol
I have updated the leaderboards. Somehow it never got put into the minion/cheats categories. I had to go through and re-verify every single run. It was so much fun.
@Fadiopeel You don't need any specific PS2. All you need to do is enable fast PS1 disc read speed. The only difference other PS2 models will make is maaaaaybe a second. You have to do this every time you play the game, it doesn't save.
While, individual level times would even the playing field, it's already a hassle to verify the time people submit for these games is accurate. Having to go through and make sure every single load screen that the time is correct would add too much work to both the people verifying the run and the people submitting the run. It's a lot easier for someone to want to run this game if all they have to do is sit down and play it. Possibly someone could get an automatic splitter working for the PC version, which would also solve the issue of the god awful PC loading times, but idk anyone in our community that would know how to set that up. So, while it would be nice, I just don't think it'll be beneficial for the Twisted Metal games as they are right now.
We have it set up currently so that you can filter by car, but I'm not sure if we have it so you can upload a run with different cars
Axel when he rams another car pretty much perfectly sets himself up to ram them again over and over, which was one of the big reasons to pick him.
No one has asked for individual level runs yet, they can be added once someone expressed interest in doing them and has a run. Other than that I'm still the only person to submit anything for this game.
Feel free to express interest in the TM discord @ https://discord.gg/Dg4aBuf
If you're looking to pick up a legit copy of 1.0, they never released 1.0 of this game in the US. There is a listing right now on ebay for the proper edition https://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Worlds-PC-Dvd-rom-Vf-Complete/153876928028?epid=54608223&hash=item23d3c7961c%3Ag%3AH5AAAOSwIt5ee4Tv&LH_BIN=1
If that's already gone, the edition you'd need to find looks like this
To get it patched to 1.1, you will need a patch from https://www.patches-scrolls.com/two_worlds.php The patch you need is the European Edition patch at the bottom of the list.
At the current moment I'd say we're perfectly fine with a PS2 emulator run. I have no idea which emulators would be the most accurate, but as long as it's not super obviously giving you an advantage, you should be fine. If you have a PS4, you can pick the game up for pretty cheap on there and use the built in twitch stream feature to capture your run. If you do want to run on emulator, I'd suggest checking out other PS2 speedruns to see if you can find what they are using.
I haven't tried the PC version in awhile, but the time I did it required you to load in every asset for every level and it took longer to load even on a good pc than it did on any console
You could use a PS2. PS2 is the fastest way to run the game and it's an actual console. PS1 is by far the slowest way to run the game. It's true for almost every PS1 game. Not just the TM games.
You can edit the run submission to go in a different category for the same game, but not into a different game. By making PS2 and PSP separate categories, you can just edit the run to fall into the right category. If they were made into 2 different games, then there's not really any easy ways to do it.
I tested some times to show a better understanding of load times.
These are all loading the first level with Axel selected.
PS3 with Disc: 19s PS3 with PSN: 18s PS2 Fast Disc Speed: 10s PS2 Normal: 16s PS1 Fat: 20s PS1 Slim: 20s
I did not test TM2 for PC as the game would not work for me, but the game has to load textures every time you load a level, so I'm pretty sure it's even longer of a load time for whatever reason.
For EMU times, just look at everyone elses runs.
The only one I'd say is maybe bad would be exchanging weapons for health but only because it pops a message on your screen unlike any other energy attack. Fireball and Freeze is fine as it uses energy for an attack. Personally I see nothing wrong with using either.
Pretty sure I used it in my runs as well. It's not something you can just use however many times you want, it doesn't insta kill an enemy, and it uses the meter just like every other non-cheat ability.
Have you tried uninstalling it? If you're on Win10, you can right click your start menu and go to Apps & Features then uninstall it from there. Also, if you're setting up and bought it for yourself, make sure you have the right version. You need the 1.0 client which was available from the European version of the game.
