Hello guys!

I'm making this thread so we can talk about authorizing or not the usage of overclocking for the PSP categories (not the Emulation ones).

I have already made a thread about this to get opinions from runners of other games here: https://www.speedrun.com/streaming_recording_equipment/thread/4ty55

The pros of overclocking:

-It's the only way to record properly the game using RemoteJoyLite (without overclocking, RJL makes Pursuit Force lag too much), and this is certainly a more comfortable way to record the game than using something like a webcam, both for runners and viewers;

-Someone could use the overclock even if it was forbidden, and it could be very hard to notice it.

The cons:

-It's a modification of the console that could bring an advantage over the runners who uses unmodified consoles (less framerate drops, faster loading times), and should normally be forbidden;

-We could accept the overclocked PSP runs on the Emulator categories instead of the Console categories (because emulation is never 100% accurate to the original console).

For now, I authorize the overclocked PSP runs, but that could change in the future if enough people are against it.

Hello guys!

I am currently moderator for the Pursuit Force speedrun board, and I got a question from a runner about overclocking his PSP.

He did a speedrun of Pursuit Force on PSP, that he recorded using RemoteJoyLite. Apparently, RemoteJoyLite makes the game really laggy, so he overclocked his PSP to make it playable.

Our question is: Is overclocking legit for speedrunning? Or does it count as an unfair modification of the console?

I don't have much experience of PSP speedrunning, I didn't even knew that overclocking was possible on that console x)

Thanks for your replies! I just got my USB cable for PSP and I managed to do a copy of the ISO of the game from my own UMD disk. Now, the loading time when begining a new mission has droped from ~20 sec to ~5 sec. That's a lot faster!

I will try to get the usb cable for the PSP so I can put an ISO of PF and test the loading times, I think that's the best way to find the answer.

I never played Extreme Justice but why not, I will surely give it a try! But now I'm focusing on PF ;)

Thanks for your replies! When I said ISO I was talking about using ISO on the real PSP and not on emulator, but yes I think it's better to do separate categories for the real hardware and the emulation. I just saw other PSP boards and they all seems to be organised like that.

ct27> That's cool :D I just did my first run on PF yesterday, I did 3h 56min. That's pretty long but it was a really bad run, I completely messed up some Killer 66 missions, and I also had a mysterious shutdown from my console (thank you autosave). I'm sure we can go easily under 3h30 with a bit of pratice and even 3h20 with a good run. Unfortunately I got recording issues (there's ~25 sec of video missing) so I cannot submit it but I will try again later :)

Hello guys!

I'm currently speedrunning a PSP game called Pursuit Force which is not on speedrun.com yet, so there's no specific forum for it. It's also my first time speedrunning on this platfom.

I'm running it on UMD, which brings long loading times. There are ~60 loading screens in my run, each one lasts for tens of seconds.

If I was running the game on ISO, like if I had bought it dematerialized, the loadings would be a lot faster, right? But would it be allowed?

Speaking of Sonic and RPGs, there's actually a Sonic RPG on Nintendo DS (Sonic Chronicles) that can be done in less than 3h (even 2h in NG+ category). As weird the combination of Sonic universe and RPG gameplay can be, it's not even a bad game. Too bad I gave my DS to my little brother a few years ago :p Maybe I will try an emulator to run it.

The longest run I did was 3h 55min on Drome Racers 100%. Then, I tried to beat it with the objective to save at least 15min, but my game crashed after 3h of run during a loading screen :,(

Did you have any method to stay focused during long runs? Personally, I like to listen to music while running, just as when I'm driving a car.

Hello guys, I'm Jaws and I'm from the land of baguettes and wine!

I discovered the world of speedrunning a long time ago thanks to a french web broadcast called "Speed Game", but I wanted to try speedrunning since I watched a world record run on the remake of one of my favorite game series, Crash Bandicoot, a few months ago (the runner was UKOGmonkey).

My first speedrun was on Crash Bandicoot 2 (ps1 version), I did 1h42 at first try and 1h11 at second try. But I did them on a forbidden emulator so I didn't submit them.

I just submit my first "official" speedrun, that was on Drome Racers. I want to run some other games, mainly on PS1, because it's fun to beat games from my childhood! ^^

Have a good day!
