Handheld is kind of an awkward way to play imo. If you have a pro controller and a TV, playing with the switch docked should solve several of those issues. If you don't have a pro controller though, downloading the game on pc would probably be cheaper than buying a controller.
That being said, controller vs kbm doesn't matter that much until you get your time down pretty low.
@Ultra_Recro
You're correct. TAS timing starts on console power on.
Forgive me if I'm bad at explaining this.
The categories (other than 120 star) aren't technically about how many stars you need to collect, they're about what glitches are and aren't allowed. The reason you need to collect 70 stars in the 70 star category is because bljs are banned, and thus, 70 stars are required. That's why the red coin star in the final level can't be your 70th.

I don't run this game, but I can guarantee you that will absolutely not happen.

Even if it wasn't even given its' own category and was completely banned, it would still get a seperate leaderboard you could compete on.
My guess is that it'll probably need a different leaderboard, or maybe a different category just because of control differences.
I'd say Guy has a pretty decent chance of getting it first as well.

Huh, weird, I didn't know you had to visit certain areas before you could do it. Thanks for the info.
So, as the world record has continued to improve in any%, I've wondered why people haven't been doing the glitch that skips piantissimo's text boxes at theend of the race. It doesn't seemto risky, sure it doesn't save much time, but I suck at the game, have never even attempted a speedrun, and I'm ble to do it consisently. Is actually a little slower since you end up just a little farter from the shine sprite?
Hey ricarrdo, glad to see someone who wants to join the community. Up in the top right of the lederboards you'll see a few buttons that say "view rules" and"submit run".
Clickig on the view rules button does exactly what it sounds like, it shows you the rules for that category, and there's also a tab for game-wide rules.
Submit run takes you to a page where you can submit a run time. You'll wat to fill in the in-game time area, and leave the real-time area blank. Luckily, the game has it's own timer in speedrun mode, so you won't need to set up any timers on your own if you don't want to.
Video evidence is pretty much required from what I've seen, although a screenshot may be acceptable for slower times, don't quote me on that.
OBS is by far the easiest and most effective recording software I've come across for speedrunning. It's completely free, and there are plenty of tutorials online on how to use it.
Have fun :)
