I'd love it if it was possible to mark parts of the timer (ingame timer specifically) as undefined, like with xxx or --- (or w/e). for example in the monster hunter series, there's multiple ingame timers displayed, (for ILs there's one in the level, that doesn't show ms, and the end-screen which does)
^ in the example series, when players submit with only the in-level timer, the ms information isn't given. simply omitting the ms would make them be faster than they actually are, and adding 999ms or rounding up seems inaccurate.
(while we're at it, displaying the ms when it's 000 instead of hiding it would be apreciated as well :C)
I have nothing against adding "all story-related optional quests" as a category, but I'd rather only add it (and other super-arbitrary stuff) only after a run has been made.
the first run made will be used for specifics, until then char creation -> story finishing hunt / credits unlock will be used to "define" the timing.
It looks to me like the old MMO "do it now or you'll never get it" tactic. I don't have much issue with it because as soon as the game hits PC all quests & items will be available at all times anyway, at least for single-player/offline.
imo voice it to capcom, they're the ones responsible for making it timed. I for one won't even be able to play the current timed quest casually, yet alone attempt to speedrun it.
Having the limited events on the board could lock out others from doing those run
That's the fault of the quest being time-limited in the first place, if the quest's no longer available, no new runs can be done, just like with the beta.
It's restrictive to increase sales, doesn't really impact us.
yes, playing on pc is always better. (except when it isn't)
you can submit, but you should definitely give the mods all information available, as @Timmiluvs already said, you're playing on a modified console, and especially the SNES classic already has problems with its emulation, so unless the specifics are known, the mods can't make an informed decision.
@SlayerOfBabies just out of curiosity, since you added the category yourself now, how is your approach better than the way I had added it? (as a subcategory) all you did was add additional, unecessary clicks.
@Destruction_one8
Is there going to be something like: Rathian High Rank in 1'20"560 In the lvl lb maybe?
Yes, there will be in the "Level Leaderboard" section of the page. We're only currently waiting for all quests to be discovered.
If you want to still have your speedrun listed, you can post it into https://www.speedrun.com/mhw/Not-Listed_Quest with a note on what quest it is, we'll add the quest when we see it.
you could also do some file extraction shenanigans and make your own cover (I did this for example on https://www.speedrun.com/Akane_the_Kunoichi and pretty much the whole Monster Hunter Series)
I'm sure you all know that the full game will release soon. (4 days hype!)
With the end of the 3rd and last beta, we have to prepare the leaderboard for the full game.
No run will be deleted - we want to keep the records up. We'll move the Beta categories into a subsection, they'll become Misc. categories.
Instead there will be a "Complete the Story" category, as is tradition in speedrunning, it's called Any%. Any% runs are from a new game to the credits. specifics will be known when the game releases. If the need for it arises, there will also be a "all key quests" category or something similar, which can be done from an already completed file.
What does this mean? It means they won't show up as they do right now, but rather on a small sub-menu next to the normal categories.
Why the change? You can't play the Beta anymore, not to mention they'll be forgotten in 3 weeks anyway.
On another topic: I've been messaged multiple times about the pod exploit, and especially my stance on it. For Beta runs, to me all is fair game. It's a beta, there are bugs and exploits, use em.
for the full game, I was told the exploit is fixed. If it should be somehow still possible to use, there will be a variable on the leaderboard to distinguish runs that use it.
Happy hunting and have fun playing the game.
@HowDenKing
since there's not much to go on by on this leaderboard: I'm guessing the mod pressed the "sort descending" box so higher time = better.
it's been always the case afaik. you can also go to https://www.speedrun.com/users#donators if they disabled their donation icon (like I did)
