While I have nothing to say regarding the IL timing, are you sure it's actually infinite?

Segmented runs should not be compared to single-segment runs at all, Lonne. Segmented is showing the utmost limits of what a human can do with the controller and the game, beyond which strategies are often restricted to TASes (Tool Assisted Speedrun) only. Segmented runs often feature several tricks which are not RTA-viable and those tricks that are RTA-viable are often done setupless or in harder manners than normal (when said harder manners are faster), because in segmented runs you can just retry a small portion of the run time and time again until you get a "good segment". Furthermore, things which are generally not manipulated or concerned with (enemy RNG) are at least attempted to be controlled in some manner when feasible as you can simply retry segments until you get one with favorable RNG (unlike TAS, the RNG state is not required to be the same throughout the run, which effectively means that a segmented run may not be possible to recreate single-segment because of the RNG states not aligning. Why segmented can do this is because of how infeasible it is to require the RNG state remain the same, especially on a more modern-day console). Having a "leaderboard" for segmented runs is rather useless since a segmented run, done well, often takes months if not years to complete.

Segmented runs have a place in speedrunning as showing off the upper echelons of what a human can do with the game using things RTA can't do for various reasons. Segmented runs don't need a leaderboard due to the time it takes to create one, and do not belong on a leaderboard with single-segment runs as they are fundamentally different and are more comparable to a TAS than an RTA run. In the end, there not being a single-segment leaderboard for the game is an issue, but I'm also not sure if this is something that needs to be addressed in general; I feel this is better addressed initially in the game's forum itself.

As a final note: For promoting a segmented run, I feel that adding it in as a guide, linking the finished product's playlist, is the best option. Yes, it is a run, but it is also a run that cannot be legitimately compared to an RTA speedrun.

I believe (but this is not a 100% certain answer and I will ask another mod) for categories involving hacks or cheats, emulator is allowed. For more normal categories (ones that don't use hacks or cheats) I believe emulator would be discouraged, though I don't know if we will explicitly deny it. I will ask another moderator to provide their input on this, though.

From a 100% requirements aspect, I don't believe the fight is explicitly required. However, it is the fastest way to set D/N cycle to night for the Gerudo Desert and also unlocks Malo Mart, where the Hylian Shield and Hawkeye, plus enables opening the CT shop to buy the Magic Armor as well as Springwater Run for a HP are all either within directly or locked by things you do within the shop.

If we assume KB1 isn't required for Malo Mart, what are you doing to pass time for the Gerudo Desert Poes? Iza 1 is out (Iza's bag screws Barne's bag), beating SPR is out (sets D/N to midday plus screws Coral Earring [Fishing Rod Upgrade]), Plumm was already done, and STAR both doesn't do enough and is slower anyway. You can't just go to the Desert right away because there's no way to clear the area efficiently due to the poe at the entrance of the area (the best option is to SW after opening the Mesa portal and then get the entrance poe and warp back, but this is slow and you still need to pass more time than just this, PLUS you also end up skipping LH cleanup which needs to be routed somewhere else).

In short, even if we set aside the issues with Malo Mart, KB1 is still purely faster than waiting for night or doing other things.

ya know you can delete them right?

Anyway... yeah, that's about what I expected the issue was. Bad optimization of movement mostly. As I originally said, tricks can go good or bad but movement will make or break a run.

Salty much? Dayum. Anyway, as Timmiluvs said, can't tell you what you're doing wrong unless we have a video or more than just one time comparison.

Also, as a general point, Gymnast is a very good runner. He knows optimizations of movement much better than most people, and in TP optimizing your movement is a huge thing that you don't truly realize how much time you lose to. Tricks are one thing, but movement can make or break the run.

If it's not an option for the time, you can't give it by default, but you can always put the timing down to whatever preciseness you want as a comment on the run. Note that if you do this to a run that has already been verified it will need to be re-verified.

Quite possible they didn't realize it. I don't know what position the submitted run is but some LB's do not put things under intense scrutiny and just make sure things make sense. I'd hazard to guess that the boards go by IGT anyway so RTA is not that relevant (esp because the OP posts that RT is not a necessary stat to add).

But yeah, edit the run, remove the RT stat or figure it out from your recording, and then it'll have to get reverified, as others have said.

Yes. Text speed makes JP faster than USA 1.0 in every case except a TAS (where the text speed is ignored for region/version comparisons insofar as TASVideos is concerned- the JP TAS would be faster timewise but slower gameplaywise) and Ancient Cistern IL's. Otherwise JP beats USA 1.0.

United StatesHabreno7 years ago

You're welcome, btw. (Considering I linked those images in the discord you could have given me credit for taking them)

Note that both of those are pictures of a USA Wii disc, so the region is E.

A BiT Save starts Link in the Faron Woods at the Faron Spring, and the game is on Ordon Day 2, so yes, the route is doable from a BiT Save. You will not get the Boots until Ordon Day 3, though (After you free Talo and do Goats 2), like normal Any%.

If you're stuck on strats, see both the resources here on Speedrun.com and ZSR, or visit the TP discord. There's a lot of knowledge amoung the runners for the game, as well as those who are more into the science of TP.

This is actually a rather in-depth question, so here we go.

Firstly, if the Gale LJAs to skip the monkeys don't work, if you haven't set EBF, you can always try to rescue the monkeys and jump across that way. If ¤that¤ doesn't work, you'll need the Clawshot to reach Diababa. (Setting EBF means the flag won't be 8, which is required for the chain)

For the Clawshot, you need to enter Lakebed, which means either having done EMS and entering Lanayru Twilight OR having cleared Lanayru Twilight AND obtained, at a minimum, Water Bombs or Zora Armor (Clearing Lanayru also requires clearing Eldin). Any of this requires escaping the Forest, which requires Forest Escape, a Gale LJA. If that LJA doesn't work, you'll need to restart your run and follow the sequence below. (While you can BiTE to Kakariko, Map Warping is still required and that requires killing the Gorge Messengers, only possible by reaching them on the other side, which is only possible via Hyrule Field South)

During Ordon Day 2, with a sword, do Faron Woods Gate Clip Escape (Angle Epona against the gate and jump attack into the angle to clip into the gate, then clip out the same way you do in Ordon), call Epona again in Hyrule Field South, do Epona Seam Clip to get Epona OOB (I recommend safety saving with Epona OOB somewhere you can mount her again after the savewarp). You'll need to do some Epona OOB movement to get Epona into Eldin Twilight ¤without¤ entering the Twilight via the barrier. Now you need to kill the messengers and get the one-frame jump attack, then savewarp before you void out. Back in Hyrule Field South, call Epona again, clip back into Faron, and beat Ordon Day 2 and proceed as normal.

Now you can, after doing Faron Twilight (be sure to do EMS!), BiTE to Kakariko, get the Kakariko Portal (thus giving you access out of Faron via warping), and activate Map Warping by hitting the Midna trigger in the Gorge area. After clearing Eldin, you can Epona OOB via Map Glitch from Hyrule Field East and follow the map around to the Flight by Fowl door (you must transition the map for each segment while remaining OOB), where you can savewarp in front of to remove map glitch. Get the Clawshot and open the ZD Portal, then you'll have clawshot to clear Forest with and portals to warp where you need to with (and the path from Faron to HFS will reopen). Credit goes to Dragonbane for the route.

This is a rather tricky challenge to do with glitches. Best of luck!

EDIT: EBF isn't directly tied to the chain to Diababa, that is exclusively all eight "Monkey Freed" flags. Gale Boomerang breaks the first four monkeys, but for monkeys 3 and 4 you can still set the requisite flag (opening the cage door). Monkey 2 is the issue, with Gale the monkeys clapping after killing the bokoblins (which is the act that sets the monkey 2 freed flag) can't be set. So EBF doesn't directly hammer Monkey 2, but it does indirectly by allowing you to get the Gale before it, which directly breaks the Monkey 2 freed flag, required for the monkey chain to Diababa.

Credit to Dragonbane0 for the research on this edit.

If you have questions about submitting runs for your game, the best resource is to ¤ask the mods for that game¤ and they'll tell you.

discussione: The Site
United StatesHabreno7 years ago

#1: If the runner added the time themselves, then if they wish it to be removed the time should be readded as an anonymous run, without any identifiers as to who the run was by. If the game has multiple categories, the mods can track runs that were made anonymous by giving them "Anonymous 1" "Anonymous 2" etc... if need be. The time should remain as it was at one point a run submitted to the boards of the runner's own will. The mods should know who the run was by, though that information should not be available by looking at the time on speedrun.com

#2: If the run was added by someone else and the runner never was involved in it, the run and time should be completely wiped. The runner never put it up, they don't want it up then they should be able to say "no". The mods should know what the time was and who it was by for tracking purposes, but it should not be on the leaderboards at all.

#3: If the run was added by someone else but the runner expressed that this was okay, see #1.

In summation: if the runner was okay with the time being up at some point in the past, leave the time up but remove the identifying information and anonymize it. If the runner never was okay with it (or never expressed being okay with it) pull the whole thing.

The issues with this are several. Firstly, who on earth would run it? Secondly, do you realize how long this would take? Thirdly, who would run this? Fourth, this is more than what 100% normally requires, IIRC.

It's also technically not NG+, since the only way to unset that is to not have any save file for the game on the console. Even three blank files but you've beaten the game prior will still let you skip CS's. I.E. It's tracked on a game level, not a save file level.

The only solution is to nuke the damn thing from orbit. Remove the game entirely, readd the game and just clone the boards from the other site. Why do you guys have to fight over this crap? It's speedrunning- aka something we should be doing to have FUN. Why must you fight like babies over this crap, god?

That said. You don't need to have a top-tier time to be a moderator, and in fact some people that have top-tier times would make TERRIBLE moderators. A mod needs to know the game well and be able to verify that runs are, in fact, legitimate and weren't cheated/hacked/TASed. I don't know this community. But I do know what a mod needs to be able to do and being able to get the WR is not one of those requirements.

Quit your bitching and fighting. Get off your high horses. Get your heads out of your asses. Work together on this. This shit is embarassing for speedrunners everywhere. Cut it out.

The sword doesn't spawn until the shield does (specifically, the midna text after the shield), and you can't get the shield since the CS with the mayor and the other guy never plays (so you never get to jump to the roofs and can't get in). I ¤believe¤ this is because the area is in the wrong state but I don't know for sure.

So yes, if you do BiT, Sword and Shield Skip is ¤mandatory¤ to beat the game.

United StatesHabreno8 years ago

This is the basic discussion that always happens regarding "glitchless" or "bug limit" runs- it's very hard to define by what you allow and disallow, thus leading to seemingly arbitrary lines. The community usually does define these arbitrary lines, however, they are still arbitrary and others can disagree- it will happen. I usually find a solution being banning ¤results¤ rather than ¤techniques¤, but I think this approach is extremely unpopular with communities, and as a result is not implemented nearly as often as it should.
