Could you elaborate? I think you're just describing Any%?
Unless you mean "one" value in each task, like one sample in analysis, one alimentation that needs to be done, etc. Besides the "default" value of those. So for scanner, there would only be one dot, and there would only be one box for delivery, etc. Is that what you meant? That sounds like fun. I just need some more clarification.
Nice run!
Note to self: Once you throw a pressure canister you can turn around and grab a can from behind without moving all that much.
I added the category for multiplayer! The category is called Any% Multiplayer with 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8-player count variants.
Another question: Is communication with teammates allowed externally or only through voice in the game?
We don't have any runs in this category just yet, if there's demand for a separate tag (vanilla communications vs 3rd party communications) then I will add that option to the submission form.
I found that writing the names of the rooms down helps too. But I haven't tried yet.
On scrap paper write down these symbols for specific rooms
"+" Medical
M Machine (not to be confused with medical)
S Storage
R Restaurant
B Botanic
C Camera (not to be confused with computers)
P (com)Puters
Alternatively, you could write all of these down first and then put a check mark (or an X or something) next to the rooms that have vents.
I will try to beat this time when I get home, it seems like almost 4 minutes could be reduced to 2:30 or 3:00.
Option 1. Would you prefer categories for specific team sizes? Like this:
- 2 Players
- 3-4 Players
- 5-6 Players
- 7-8 Players
Option 2. Or would you prefer categories for all team sizes? like this:
- 2-8 Players
Option 3. Or would you prefer subcategories for each unique team size? Like this:
- 2 Players
- 3 Players
- 4 Players
- 5 Players
- 6 Players
- 7 Players
- 8 Players
I would prefer option 3, which gives specific team sizes their own unique category for their runs. What do you think?
Good afternoon runners,
I wanted to share some of my thoughts for running Any%
We all know that Computers has a chance to fail, and would have us all running back and forth to and from computers to try to get the task done. What I would like to have happen would be to complete Computers first (since it has the highest likelihood to fail and cause extra time). The other tasks do not have this RNG type of element associated with them and thus are easier to manage.
I have done some quick calculations and have detailed how long (in distance) each task takes to complete. Whether this is accurate or not is TBD. One "unit" is a generic distance to move from one room to another. For example, moving from Storage to Maintenance is One unit. But moving from Maintenance to the Sample Room is 5 Units.
- Scanner - 0 Units (you don't have to move to finish the scanner, it all takes place in one room)
- Pizzushi - 10 Units (you have to get 2 samples from analysis and probably 1 or 2 rice bags from storage)
- Pressure - 12 Units (you have to move all 6 pressure canisters from storage to maintenance)
- Analysis - 12 Units (you have to collect all 6 samples from the sample room)
- Alimentations - 12.4 units (Depending on the placement of the tasks. Minimum distance is 2 units, Maximum Distance is 16 units. Average distance is 12.4 units)
- Computers - Minimum 15.6 units, Max theoretically unlimited units, Average TBD. Can anyone help with the statistics on this? How often does the Computers Task fail?
- Vents - 18.6 units on average.
- Delivery - 26 units on average (6 Deliveries, 2 units for maintenance, 2 units for medical, 4 units for pizza, 6 units for botanic, 6 units for computer, 6 units for camera)
Ideally, we would want to eliminate (or multitask) any routes that might overlap. For example, if you're running a delivery to Botanic, then you might as well grab an empty sample canister on your way and take it there too. Any time you're running you should be working on 2 tasks at the same time (at least).
Anyways, what are your thoughts on distance elimination? Is the strategy to start with Computers and then work on the Highest Distance tasks next? Like Delivery and Vents?
does anyone know of games where coop speedrun has already been successfully implemented
Among us has done the same thing. Here's a link to one of the 3-4 Crewmate Speedruns: https://www.speedrun.com/among_us/runs/yvl7ve8z
Stardew Valley has a multiplayer speedrun category. https://www.speedrun.com/stardew_valley/runs/y4l7rndz
It looks like all players will need to record their screen and upload it to YouTube to be verified.
I second this. It was inevitable that this game would be speedrun by a group of players.
Question? How would you verify the runs? Would all of the runners need to be recording and upload all of their recordings to be verified?
Here's my run with the original rules. 3 Tasks - Solo - Default Task Values: (8:27 Time, Last Run)
I'm going to speculate here a little bit and say it's because "Glitchless" has always been pretty hard to moderate. Like, what IS a glitch? How would you define a glitch? Speedrunners are meant to take games to their breaking point and complete the game AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. That's why Any% speedruns look insane, because they're taking everything to the extreme. But if you try to limit that to make the game how it was "intended" to be played then you've got conflicting objectives:
- Objective 1: Beat the game as fast as possible (using any method necessary)
- Objective 2: Beat the game without glitches (how it was "intended" to be played)
Here's a great reddit thread on the topic of "Glitchless" runs (almost 10 years old! wow!)
A more fitting name for the category would be "Intended Route" which would exclude runners from using OOB and Chest Boosting. But that's up to the runners to decide how to moderate it. I think it would be a fun category to run, it's a shame that there's no category for it yet.
I could see theoretically how one person could cheat the rules and just select the three easiest tasks they want to run. Other than that, are there any vulnerabilities in this category?
Hello! I would like to propose a new category called "3 Tasks - Solo"
Premise: You know how when you first click on the "Custom" menu there are three tasks set by default? It would be fun to have a category where you complete these tasks as fast as possible. (Runners do not get to choose which tasks they get, all tasks are toggled on)
Category Rules:
- Same timing rules as other categories
- The number of Tasks must be set to 3
- All tasks should be set to their "default" value, similar to the Any% category rules
- Runners must show that all tasks are toggled "on" before starting the game
What do you think? It would be interesting to see how fast 3 tasks could get done by one person.
