CanadaI've done runs of a made up category where I play as Wario on an already 100% complete file and try to get as many stars as I can. This was several years ago but I got 127 unique stars in 4h 30m 54s using only Wario and no caps.
So, they can be a thing, people just have to actually want to do them. These "meme categories" are usually only run by one or two people, so they don't have leaderboards on this site, but with enough attention they could.
I also recently thought about doing a similar challenge with Luigi, only for that I could start from a new file and just get the 15 stars required to unlock Luigi as part of the run, then use Luigi (no caps) for everything except opening the big star doors.
i do, but it collects 80 stars Kappa ok but if you really want to do 50 star without moat skip, just do the first part of the run like its 80 star basically chain chomps gate (1) secret slide (2) 5 whomps fortress stars (7) sunshine isles (8) unlock mario go back into goomboss and get the switch star (9) rest of whomps fortress (12) 3 stars in CCM (15) then just start following what the 50 star route would normally do after whomp's fortress; adding in the bowser in the dark world key and getting extra stars in the basement from SSL and LLL so you catch up to the amount of stars you need.
thats just how the star works. yes it is very poorly designed.
ideas and fans don't get category extensions made, actual runs do. If enough people run things like 50 Star 1 B press, Coinless, All 1ups, Wario/Yoshi Only challenges, etc., then they would all probably have leaderboards; however in most cases only 1 or 2 people have attempted them (or 0). So if you want these things, the only viable course of action is to actually do runs. You can share videos or times here or on a discord server to let the community know.

Skipping mario entirely (as done in this video) is not humanly possible. Using mario to open doors and doing the rest of the game with other characters is, but either way this is more of a challenge run than a real speedrun category. There is a discord server dedicated to discussing challenge runs like this one: https://discord.gg/BqpBGP This server hosts discussion about some challenges similar to this one like the Wario Only No Caps challenge (WONC) or BCCless (blockless, coinless, and cannonless) For challenge run ideas, the general response you'll get from people is if you want anyone else to try it/take it seriously, you should at least do the run yourself first.
title; since time ends on getting the 51st star it really should be called that anyway. this would also prevent confusion with SM64DS's 50 star category.

I had an idea with a similar premise but more gameplay included... (sorry if this doesn't follow good forum etiquette im new around here) I called it 14 star: time starts on file select and ends when you touch the feather from the red box on top of the castle (the 14 stars are to make the block turn solid).
