okay, well, with all due respect, i've spent hours routing the category. even if i'm the only one taking it seriously, i'm still valid and i don't think it would hurt anything to have it as a button on the easy board :)
console lag test
emu lag test
It's impossible to account for the differences in how the emulator produces lag compared to console in this game. There's no way to accurately add a perceived difference.
Glitchless is pretty important and I feel that it should be an extension of the Easy board.

yep, as we just discussed in pm, i didn't realize it was allowed to make a save state there haha i definitely don't care about watching timon, i've watched him thousands of times as it is.
looks like we're on the same page! knowing this info, i have no concerns and no desire to change the timing :P
i'm gonna talk a bit more about @PlayingWithDick 's suggestion to allow runs to start from a save state some more in this separate post
- you'd be using a feature that isn't available on real hardware
- it's a set, predetermined state, so if timers are possibly based off of things that have to do with power up time, etc, it'd be the same every time
- enforcing the soft reset rule makes sure this doesn't happen
dick, your argument is exactly the same as my argument; neither of us want to waste time. i hate arguing against it on principle and i really wish i was in your camp here. when @8BitsOfJoy implemented the soft reset rule i threw a fit and embarrassed myself to veteran non-LK runners who basically told me i was a clown and explained why that rule is a Good Thing. i don't want to seem like i'm being a know it all here, i just want to convey the information properly so it's understood :)
thanks insom, those rules have always been crystal clear to me. :) maybe i made an error in conveying my overall point here.
it takes 18s from the moment you hit the reset button to the moment you gain control of Simba after Timon says "It Starts." more time is added based on the time each person takes to input the code and load up the level, so we're probably looking at around 22-23s per reset. personally i found it incredibly discouraging to do IL attempts having to wait that length of time each time. not to get all new age guru here, but time is the one finite resource we have. time wasted waiting for the IL to reset could be spent improving at the run.
i hear you that timing is easier your way and it makes a lot of sense to me due to its user friendly nature, but i'm presenting a counterpoint as somebody who got frustrated pretty quickly and gave up on recording ILs altogether because of it. i'm totally willing to just avoid ILs altogether; i have no intention of setting up camp and dying on this hill. i just know i'm not the only one who would be inclined to participate in the IL board more were the timing rules relaxed :)
hi dick, soft reset actually resets any RNG that can be seeded and preserved from a save state. :) that's why it's a rule on other genesis boards. i'm in favor of keeping that one as a rule, and i'm saying this as someone who once had a run rejected for not doing it LOL
i would like to tag @8BitsOfJoy into this for contribution as he was the former moderator who added this rule, but i'm in full agreement with it existing as obnoxious and time wasting as it is
hi, i'm eight. i think stormy is very qualified, but because there might be 2 mod spots open, i might as well go forward with my dumb thing.
i haven't been quite as active in the community as he has lately for reasons i don't need to state here, but i've been actively running the game since august of 2019 either on my main account, on my alt accounts, or offline. i have found countless optimizations in the game, i was the first runner to legitimately record a 12:xx on genesis, i was the first to run this version in any GDQ event at all. i was featured in a main one (Summer Games Done Quick 2020). i am so concerned with the objective fairness of the leaderboard that i personally spearheaded a campaign to get a cheating runner's runs proofcalled and then the runner subsequently banned.
i take moderating extremely seriously and would strive to approach all situations with fairness, logic, and objectivity. i have absolutely no issue separating my personal feelings from my position as a moderator. i haven't moderated on src before, but i have been someone's right hand in putting on a serious tournament and moderated that discord. i know many src moderators of Genesis, NES, SNES, Switch, and PC boards who have talked shop with me about moderation so i completely understand that a moderator is the hand of the community. i would never disrespect lion king speedrunning or MYSELF by acting as moderator to achieve my own goals in any capacity whatsoever. i live by a code of ethics and i wouldn't be happy with myself as a human being if i did anything of that nature. i have made some missteps along the way in this community, but my intentions have always been golden. everything i've done - even the things i was misguided about - have been what i believed would be best for the community.
aside from that, insom is my best friend in the world (LOL obvious joke here) and we'd work together well on issues. no, in all seriousness, i would like the opportunity to combine knowledge with insom on issues considering our past history. i really do think we get along well now that we've hashed everything out and i feel like me as a moderator would work toward building some of the community cohesion that has been missing recently because it would mean everyone is finally on the same page. i have a lot of respect for carter despite the fact that we've barely spoken to each other too.
ultimately i just want to be able to have an eye on what's going on. with what has happened in the past, i think it would be good if there was somebody keeping an eye on top times so as to prevent another cheating incident from taking place. (not that i believe any active runners to be cheating! i'm talking in the future here LMAO i am completely confident all top runners are actually performing the entirety of their runs at all times) my theoretical strategy there would be to first let the other mods know to hold off on verifying the run, mention that i think it's shady, then send it to two of my sources who could help me proofcall the run and let me know individually whether or not they think anything is wrong with it. if they find anything, i would then send that information to the other moderators and we would talk about it from there.
now that i know how qualified stormy is, i feel confident no matter what happens. i'm not throwing my name into the pot for narcissistic reasons, i would simply be working on behalf of the community for free and making sure everything remains above board. :P i'm eager to do the work and take it seriously if you guys want me to, but i'm also thrilled with NOT doing the work because i know there are others as qualified as me who would do a damn good job. i support stormy 100%. that's all from me
sup long time no see
i went to a src full mod personally because:
- a runner let me know insomnimatic just got a full time job and told him he has one day a week to verify runs
- said runner was pbing 3x before his runs got verified
- another runner let me know insomnimatic was verifying all runs on stream without runners' consent. i quote: "publicly verifying runs without consent is not something any credible moderator should do at all. it may not have been with ill intent but it can easily be misinterpreted and the chance to hurt someone with critic is quite high."
- 17+ runs were piling up a week
- having one mod in a game this active would be odd even if they had nothing but free time to devote to it
- myself and the full mod came to the conclusion that carter and akiteru would be the best fit for it. they have years of experience in sr, carter called out the one cheater months before anyone else did and it fell on deaf ears, akiteru has years of experience modding mmx. we feel that this mod team would make everyone most comfortable because they aren't involved enough in the community have any reason to act on existing biases. moderators (normally) aren't chosen because they want to mod, they're chosen when they're a good fit for the role, which these two are. modding anybody else would be a conflict of interest because there are existing relationships between most runners in this community. we concluded only akiteru and carter would possess the objectivity necessary to do the job properly while letting insomnimatic retain his position as mod. like imagine how pissed off you all would be if i was one of the new mods! surely you see where i'm coming from here. i know you'd absolutely love to see that shit 🤡
seriously though, i hope this helps. none of this has ever been to undermine anyone or make anyone feel bad. if that were the goal, things would be looking a lot different than they are.
i took this so seriously mostly because i was really bothered by insomnimatic's live run verification. the fact that he had one day a week to verify 17+ runs and was just rollin with it instead of wanting what's best for the community and modding someone competent to help him verify didn't really sit well with me either. i didn't feel that the community's sole board mod should be an individual who would choose to let the community wait unnecessary amounts of time while he sits on dozens of new runs rather than simply getting help, which i offered back in august but would never be taken up on due to bias.
if you don't see why it is imperative to have 2 fair and impartial board mods after this, after everything that's gone on in this community for the past year, then i really don't know what to tell you all
be well
