''• Matlock needs the Printout to go down to the Necropolis in the PC version.''

I remember this being mandatory in PS1 version too.

Yeayea, the final split is at hitting the switch. But I was thinking that does there need to be more splits between start and end ?

Doze_D4 years ago

PS1 has less enemies in some areas and it also has glitch that you can shoot thru walls, so those make it different for sure. Split point gotta be still figured out.

Just watched @Failmore's 1:33:57 run, and started to think about the first computer with Kenzo, that propably the best tactic would be to skip the Piccolo ammo on the nondead corpse, you get enough of it later on (+ you can share it). Just run to the computer, quickturn 180 degrees and then use the computer. After the computer, you're already facing the door to run out.

Second thought is with the movement of the characters. If you're standing in the middle of the corridor sideways, and you need to turn 90 degrees left/right, don't turn, just start running and steer to that direction you're going, saves a littlebit of time.

When going to Necropolis, do you need to kill the Trimorph running in the volcanic pit ring immediately ? I would leave it to Karne to deal with when he's running there to set up the explosives, saves about a minute.

With the ghost zombie in the graveyard, propably the best tactic is to aim at all the time and evade from him backwards towards the airlock while shooting, then go behind him and start backing up towards the graves while shooting.

Yea I found that odd too that you couldn't change that, it would be just fine to run the game at standard 1080p. And single core setting should run that with ease.

Doze_D4 years ago

The game definitely would need some debugging to find a way to lift the resolution without Peixoto. The game is locked to single resolution, 480p.

Doze_D4 years ago

Thanks, but I already managed to do it with DragonUnpacker, that has ATF file support on HyperRipper tool, to extract those WAV files out. I did a collection of those to my YT channel.

Doze_D4 years ago

Good, the game was desinged to run at 4:3 like RE-games so it would be good to have that on this too. With Peixoto, it's standard, but without it the game stretches.

Doze_D4 years ago

Btw, did you find way to make the game run at fullscreen/fullscreen window and still maintain 4:3 image ratio ?

Doze_D4 years ago

I'm willing to bet that since working with DC1/2 and RE1-3 has been difficult task, Gemini would never ever touch this game, as it's evil from the code. Guys at GameHacking and PSXDEV have been helping me with extracting music files from PS1 version and all of them have said that the game is super evil to work with, and so broken.

Yea the dodge is completely useless, way too clunky and slow. Funny to watch for couple times but that's about it.

Okay, found new bug from the PC version, beware:

https://imgur.com/a/34wemCI

What happened there is that one item bugged and turned into that blank item decribed as ''door''. That happened with Kenzo, with that one hatch on the corridor next door from MOOD door, which contains health boost syringe. I didn't pick up the health boost from the hatch, but, when I went away from the item screen, there was a command available ''Take health boost''. I picked it up and it turned into that ''door'' item. You can move that item with VacTubes, but you can't use it or do anything with it. And when you have that in the VacTube, it doesn't register properly, meaning that the game tries to put the fourth item into the VacTube. Possible game crashing bug.

Also, JoyToKey doesn't work if you have the compatibility mode lower than Windows Vista. Tested with Xbox One controller.

Aaand the game crashed so hard today, it actually crashed my computer to BSOD :D Haven't seen that for a while.

Better have this topic where we can add some stradegies and basic tips, that can then put/update to Guides-section.

I finally figured out the quick 180-degree turn system, the game has that, but there's no info about that in the manuals. You have to press Run + Down to make character turn quick 180 degrees. Trouble with that is that you have to stand still, before you can do it, you can't walk backwards and then just hit a button, you have to stop first. But I noticed that if you keep the run button pressed all the time, you can run forwards, then stop, press down to turn around and then continue running to opposite direction immediately. Works on both, PC and PS1 versions.

Okay, I did try both, they seem to be similar in terms of speed, but obviosly Peixoto makes the game look better with 3D models due higher resolution (not that it matters, since the models are low quality anyway :D). Peixoto has one major drawback: I couldn't record it at all, even with monitor recording selected from OBS.

Doze_D4 years ago

Gotta measure them, best way is to test it out at the beginning before nondead are awakened.

Doze_D4 years ago

Yea I agree on those. So, PS1 as stock, albeit higher internal resolution is allowed on emulation, as that doesn't affect on speed (as far as I'm aware). PC gotta be tested out with both patches, I felt that Peixoto ran on full speed, while the stock run somewhat more sluggish.

Doze_D4 years ago

There has to be separate categories, but gotta figure out which ones. PC is faster because there's no loading pauses, except when you go to Necropolis (seamless world, technical archievement imo when compared to RE-games).

PC should propably have two categories: Stock (w. official patches) and Peixoto-patch.

PS1 has only one category officially, but, I have this patch for NTSC-U version of the game that keeps the nondead on the ground for longer and they do not rise up that often or at all. But that's propably concidered as cheating.

Doze_D4 years ago

Not so difficult in the end, but the Peixoto patch is more complicated to set up, than the regular patches. Gotta still wait for that update from Peixoto to get the controllers working.

Doze_D4 years ago

You mean setting up the 4:3 from GPU control panel by lowering the screen width ? Because on NVidia's panel, there no options to force anything to run on 4:3 ratio.

Doze_D4 years ago

Well if you can play it through and report that how it goes, would be good to know. Gotta figure out how to make it run on 4:3 ratio, propably with DxWnd. And the controller support, propably with JoyToKey.

Edit: DwWnd didn't keep the 4:3 ratio, no matter what I tried. Peixoto is the only trick to make it run in correct 4:3 ratio, but we gotta wait till he brings out that fix for controller support.
