Unfortunately we can't allow non-Bizhawk runs due to several instances of cheating. We need all the display information that Bizhawk provides in order to verify a run.

The Any% category is the Ranch Master category. It used to be named as such as well, we will likely change the name back as it's more descriptive.

Let's have a discussion about what should be against the rules for the glitchless category:

Time Storage Cutscene Skip Flying

One thing I'm not sure about as it's kind of a gray area is Animation Cancelling. Any thoughts?

No, the only allowed emulator is Bizhawk:

All emulator submissions must be done on Bizhawk 2.8.x or higher using the SNES9x Core, with the following displayed: FPS, FrameCounter, Input, Subtitles, Status Bar, Messages. All can be found under the "View" tab. All other settings to remain default. Each attempt must begin with a core reset (CTRL+R by default), and it must be included in the submitted video.

The reason for this is to make sure the runs can be accurately compared to other runs.

Yes, it is inconsequential, but it's quite obvious to anyone looking and that's why it was brought to our attention so promptly. The reason I missed it is because I was focused on frame counting as we've had a lot of runs coming in recently for both the English and Japanese version of this category. I am at fault for accepting those runs and I apologize that I wasn't able to let you know earlier before you submitted more runs.

It is clearly stated in both the rules and the category name, Any% has been defined by the larger speedrun community and I've not seen anyone else misinterpret the rules of this category in this way. The word final is not ambiguous, there is a final day of the game (the last day of the third summer) and the code exists to advance you to that day, end your game, and see the ending scenes early. You're right, it is not uncommon for speedrun categories to exist that are only a portion of the game. I would say, though, that it is uncommon for those categories to be called "Any%".

This category is not a Day1% speedrun, it is an Any% speedrun. It would be well within the rules to sleep for those 2.5 years and not use the code at all. The code is not required, it is just the best strategy for advancing to the end of the game.

The best way I can describe this to you is, if somebody was finishing up Super Mario 64 and didn't collect the final star after Bowser, it wouldn't be a completed run. If somebody walked up to Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time but didn't swing their sword, it wouldn't be a completed run. Every run MUST have a final input, and in this category it's L+R+Start+Select. The 2m 05s 767ms run you mention might be the fastest "English Day 1 Speedrun", but it is not the fastest English Any% run.

The category is for completion of the game which has always been stated in the rules, timing ends on the final day -- your runs did not complete the game. The code is not a requirement but it is the fastest way to complete the game.

Your previous runs were accepted in error, as I was focused on the frame counting and not on the actual completion of the run, which is that the final day is triggered and the ending sequence begins.

Hey, we have discussed internally and we won't be adding the category. It is mostly just advancing text through the intro, walking for a few seconds, and advancing some more text. There would be nearly no gameplay. The game doesn't end, there are no credits. This is just a manual return to the title screen that Marvelous added in SE.

Hey, there.

I have done some runs of the game (lost the highlights unfortunately) on PS4 and have noticed that the runs on PC use some sort of movement that I've been calling "drunk bee".

It appears they are zigzagging back and forth really fast using the mouse controls which I don't believe is something that can be done on console.

Do you think it might be beneficial to split the board out into the separate platforms? Maybe not all four, but potentially a split between PC and Console? I don't know if there are significant loading differences between PS4, Switch, and XBone.

If not, that's fine. I would like to eventually do some runs on PC regardless when I get a new machine.

If you want to run a category, I'll add it for you. The rules will be decided by the people who want to run it. In most cases, I'd say glitches would be allowed.

Hello, I'm a series moderator for Harvest Moon. https://www.speedrun.com/hm

We have a moderator for a game in the series (Harvest Moon DS Cute) who we haven't been able to get in contact with. https://www.speedrun.com/Harvest_Moon_DS_Cute

I'm not sure if this game was added to speedrun.com before the series functionality was available or what exactly happened, but our Series Mods (Super Mods) are not able to approve runs or make changes to the game.

If you could fix this for us, we would be very grateful!

A few months back I completed what I was calling a "Cupid" run, where all 5 rival marriages have to happen and timing ends on the first wedding bell of the 5th marriage.

It's been requested that I add the category for visibility and so others can see it as a possibility to run the game if they're interested.

The question is, what do we call it? Please vote below.
