It's been a long time since I practiced in Sockfolder - I guess I was mistaken then... but there is a finite amount of number sets either way
Honestly it would be convenient to add BBG to the "scenarios" even if that just meant having a setup with Mario running toward the staircase with the optimal bullet having been fired - and have the sockfolder inputs enabled.
There's what? Like 5 different sockfolder numbers that make BBG work... So given a list of those, you could have a display indicating that it either was successful or not successful - regardless of if it worked or not
Basically what you just said two posts up.
So then no - it sounds like there's no way to eliminate "coin toss"
Would it be theoretically possible to create a BBG "scenario" where you always have the right subpixel? because that would be amazing... or does that get created after the jump
"Shuffling" the rule (Shift+Up) doesn't shuffle anymore... it assigns a different rule, then starts the level on the old rule - FWIW
Omg small fire from title? Just when I thought I couldn't love you more
Is the buildserver down or am I doing something wrong?
http://ud2.eu:5555/ doesn't go anywhere
I get what you're saying - but I wouldn't call the ending a "legitimate" ending. Unless your qualification of "legitimate" is that the game stops, in which case softlock is even faster.
The ending message is "Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another castle!" - The exact same message you receive in every other castle level other than 8. No princess saving or bowser stopping has happened. No "ending credits" (so to speak) have been seen... it's essentially saying "you're not done yet" - but it just doesn't continue.
The "main" smb3 any% (wrong warp) category at least goes to the ending credits scene.
Anyway - it looks like public opinion is on the side of keeping MWE in main categories - So I'll rest my opinion. It seemed to be that there were 4 categories that were clearly "main", but that doesn't seem to be a major opinion.
The idea behind taking away all Individual Levels is that (1) it would add a TON of time to verify, since there's a lot of them, and (2) you'd end in soooo many ties. The fastest possible way to do (for example) 4-1 would be fast accel at the beginning and a FPG at the end... then it's broken, and it's not THAT hard to do if you're playing IL from savestates. You'd end up with a 20-way tie for first.
8-4 is unique in that there are many places to lose or save time... 5 stages, 4 places to potentially fast-accel, turnaround room (which can be optimal or sub-optimal), wall jump (1 or 2 pixels, backwards or forwards, optimal or sub-optimal), optimal or suboptimal axe, and a water section that can lose time in a few places
"They should at least add Minus World NES version to the main leaderboard.."
Oh no, the post is creating sympathy in the wrong direction! O.o
If anything *8-4, and Second Quest type categories seem more "main" than Minus World, since they're explicitly built into the game. But that's just my opinion I suppose. MWE and Minus World are certainly major categories, I just don't see what's magical about MWE. It seems like it's by definition a category extension.
Just seems so clean to move ALL of the categories that are... extensions... over to category extensions, then have the four main categories any%, warpless, SNES any%, and SNES warpless on the main board.
Ultimately though, it doesn't matter, it's just a location. Just thought if it was an oversight, it would look prettier to have only those 4 main categories on the main page without a dropdown tab... and it would give further due credit to All-Stars categories
Just a thought.
I was speaking with a few people in a discord channel - and we were wondering why Minus World Ending was included in the "Main Categories" rather than Category Extensions ( https://www.speedrun.com/smbce )
I feel silly bringing it up since I don't even run All-Stars, but would it make sense to move Minus World Ending to Category Extensions (along with its brother "Minus World", which is already in category extensions) and then you can remove the "Misc" tab altogether, and have four clean tabs with
Any% Warpless All-Stars Any% All-Stars Warpless
^ and no dropdowns
It just seems like it was an oversight at some point that was never corrected, since it's not that big of a deal. Unless there's some reason I'm not thinking of. The four main categories definitely seem to be Any% / Warpless on the NES and SNES.
I see you streaming, and looks like you have a mic but no camera - getting viewers takes time.
A few things - a camera helps, but if you're underage that might not be possible. The mic is definitely a good thing though.
From watching your stream it sounds like your audio levels could be corrected a little bit - your game audio is a little loud compared to your voice, it's a little hard to hear you.
The biggest part is just being patient. Be nice to people that join your stream, and engage them - there are people that have been playing mario for months somewhat consistently and only get a couple viewers. I still have streams where I only have zero or one viewer - Even more popular streams like Xeroxfiend, RoyLGamer, Tecate, etc... have streams where the chat is pretty light.
Remember that you're playing a one player game, if you have nobody watching, you're not at a loss... then if someone shows up it's all gravy :) - just have fun trying to beat the game by yourself, and talk to people if they do come.
Also good luck, and welcome to the super mario bros. community!
Well... it IS a glitch, since he's clipping through a wall
Somewes' consistency on 1-2g is insane - - YouTube clip of him getting it 12 out of 13 times O.o
Yeah Tecate you're right... Edited post to reflect that
in the -7.12 you hit nothing except the last two bouncing koopas - look at Kosmic's 2nd place run on the leaderboard and copy what he does in 8-2
That's assuming you're on perfect pace (other than fpg, blazit/fast 4-2 and 1-2g)
If you want to practice it on the Pellsson rom, it's rule # 539 on 8-2 for optimal, and 540 for one behind optimal
For one framerule behind optimal (rule 540 on Pellsson) you hit 2 additional koopas... do exactly what somewes does in the current world record video (coincidentally, you can do that setup for the optimal rule also, it's just easier to bop only the 2 koopas instead of 4)
it's -7.12 seconds for the traditional BBG time - without any fpgs, blazit or 1-2g
edited for Jonnyboy's sassyness =)
In the entire world, there are two - yes - two people who have a run with blazit in their pb.
There are hundreds and hundreds of people that have pbs with 375
You're focusing on the wrong thing - If you don't feel comfortable with the bumps then go super safe and get a 372.
Or just admit that you want to do blazit because it's fun to do, which is totally fine =) But it's not an optimal way to grind a faster time unless your time is 4:57 or lower. Even somewes and kosmic aren't THAT consistent at blazit (because it's a hard frame-perfect trick) Get a route in the wrong warp that you feel comfortable with that you can do consistently (like at least 80% of the time in practice) and then get consistent at the rest of the game and focus on bringing your time down. Since you don't have a pb on the leaderboard I assume you don't have a sub-5... so focus on completing the game without a death, even if it's a 5:20, or slower, then slowly bring down your time.
Good luck!
I have a curved CRT - and the right side of the screen is cut off... so my visual cue isn't on the right... it's the block where mario lands. You can still do it if the right is cut off, just watch where mario is landing rather than where the right side scrolls to
