Random runs should start the timer when you press "Start a New Adventure". Using Livesplit, you can do this with a keyboard shortcut. You started your timer almost 15 seconds late.
Timing ends the moment you launch, you ended your timer a little late as well... I had to update your run to 12m 46s.
Please be more careful with your timer next time.
Ash did not clip his player character out of bounds or use the shuttle to go out of bounds during that section.
Yes, the shuttle did visually appear to intersect with world geometry, but he picked it up and set it down without using glitches... the game just does that. The shuttle being set back in-bounds after being placed was also not being exploited here.
Had Ash entered into the shuttle during one of the moments when it was mostly OOB, then exiting the shuttle would have most certainly ejected his player character out of bounds. That would be intentionally going OOB and a glitch. Ash did not enter the shuttle. He just picked it up and set it down in a small tunnel.
This all looks fine to me.
Let us know if you have any other questions here, or in the discord! I'll be slow to respond here on speedrun.com, but I'm thankful folks are going through, taking a look at the runs, and asking questions! If you see any other moments like this (or feel like I didn't answer you very well here) then I'll do my best!
Thanks so much!
Ya, that partner perspective is pretty scuffed.... hopefully it's easy to fix if y'all keep running together.
Next time, please include a link to your co-op partner's perspective in the run description so I don't have to hunt it down. Thank you!
I almost rejected the submission, as audio from the game is normally required... but the other perspective included audio, so I think it's fine.
This was a clever and rewarding use of Desolo! I'm considering if we should update the rules to specify whether or not the run should take place on Sylva...... but I don't think it's an issue.
Timing ends when you select the teleport, and the animation begins. Congratulations on the 2:21 you two!

(this was probably added a year ago, but I decided to reply now to close the loop)
We do have No Major Glitches (NMG) which functions as "Any% without a lot of difficult speed tech"... but it does sound like you're specifically asking for something new.
I've personally completed a run without digging with the terrain tool which was quite fun! I'd recommend it as a personal challenge.

If you do get around to recording a new category attempt, please be sure to reach back out and share it with us! I'm excited to see what you come up with!
Almost all of the threads here are asking for new categories to be made. I want to start off by celebrating the creativity on display here! These are fun threads to read, and completely fine. I'm excited to see lots of folks interested in speedrunning Astroneer while sharing new ideas for challenges and speedrun categories!
Being that Astroneer is a sandbox adventure at its core... there are plenty of ways to start and stop a timer! The trouble comes down to the fact that there are only a handful of runners actually recording their attempts, and most of the categories we already have are quite inactive. Please refer to this guideline when asking for a new category to be made:
At the very least, please ensure that you have completed your own recorded run before suggesting that a new category be made. Extra consideration will be given if other runners and friends do the same or are already competing or performing similar runs! We definitely want to encourage new categories and runners. But we're simply not going to add a category if there aren't any runs at all... that would only clutter the board.
As moderators, our stance has been that we're not interested in maintaining categories that would potentially only ever have 1 run. If you have a new idea for a run, I would encourage folks to share recorded playthroughs or challenges on a personal Youtube channel or even here in the threads!
This won't guarantee that your category will show up on the boards here... but it will help create a starting point to help others join in the competition for the new category itself as we identify rules and criteria.
If you are a new runner just getting started, I'd encourage you to try running Core% and Orbit%, as they're fast and easy to pick up before reaching out to suggest a brand new category of your own.
TL;DR: If you would like to request a new category be made, we ask that you record your own attempt first. Then share the details and video here!
Thanks y'all!
This is the best news! Sorry for the delay, great job on your excellent run together!
Is there a separate video with FruityBobs' perspective?
I apologize, as I updated the rules for coop a little over a year ago requesting that both players have video footage. I checked here and on Youtube, and I don't see a link to the other player's perspective... and I hate to be the bearer of bad news...
If you head to the leaderboard for Orbit % - Coop, and click the rules, you should see:
Co-op runs should include an additional link for each player's perspective in a different video in the description.
Is there a chance it was saved or could be salvaged? Or would I be making both of you re-attempt?
I'll update the rules. Thank you for the callout!
Do I need to add a new version to the versions list?
Cool use of the starting items in a run. I bet there's a lot of room to figure out an optimal item route here.
I should update the rules. Only one player needs to launch a shuttle to finish the run. Making the shuttle seat is just a bonus :)
