I'm sorry but I am gonna quickly correct your odds.
To clear up, the odds of NOT getting basketball in a single Sports Mix match are 3/4, not 1/4. This is beacuse out of the 4 random options, only 1 is basketball, hence 1/4 to play basketball, and 3/4 to not.
The odds of having a basketball-free whole cup is 1/4 instead. The easy way to explain this is:
Out of the 4 sports, exactly 1 will not be played per cup, and this is random. Therefore the chances of it being Basketball is 1/4.
The maths way is to multiply the odds of no basketball at Round 1, 2 and the final. This is 3/4 x 2/3 x 1/2, which gives 1/4.
For a basketball-free all cups run, simply multiply 1/4 by itself twice, or cube it. This gives odds lower than you said at 1.6%, or a 98.4% chance of it showing up at least once.
So it's actually less likely than you thought, so more pain for runners x3
Rest of the post is great though!
It would probably take about 7.5-8 hours to do, over half of which is just Basketball and Hockey. Could be even longer, as in hard Bball and Hockey the opponent could score lots, wasting plenty of time to animations. I don't see many people willingly attempting this.
I've decided that any% should only involve saving the princess, so completing The Castle and Starry Sky only, since that is the implied end of the game. So I made a new category, All Levels, to fill the gap. This is the same as old any% rules, simply beat all levels in castle, Sky and tower. As a side note, this'll make any% shorter, since no bats need to be collected anymore.
No problem, happy to help :)
I think for now I can erase the advertisement time but if you're planning on running more than once you may want to just buy the no-ads version.
The reason for erasing the file is because for any% you need a certain number of bats and all stars to unlock the entire game, and I dont want to count every bat you get to see if you unlocked the witch tower.
Yep, time doesn't pass before getting on the boat, so no worries about waiting strats.
I'll check in a bit, but I thought time didn't pass until you start the boat moving?
Can we start timing runs from first input rather than new game? The opening load times can vary up to 2 seconds longer randomly for me, plus it means console doesnt lose 8 seconds from just the opening load time.
I think it's mostly because the run would be boring to optimise and watch, so there's little interest in competing for it, although there have been a lot of questions about this so they may be considering adding it but I wouldn't know. I'm not against it but I definitely wouldn't run it.
I was wondering if you were going to separate out the leaderboards for PC and console versions, since console load times are much slower.
I decided to make a discord server since there's a few runners here. Invite: https://discord.gg/q4EZTFG
So timing begins from first in game action (character moving or screen changing, not buttons changing), and ends when the screen is fully black after the level?
