Just to inform other speedrunners, you don't “need” this to speedrun this game, knowing that the game was offered on the epic games store (the downpatch is not available on the epic game store) I prefer not to play the downpatch to improve accessibility for new players (downpatch which allows if I'm not mistaken to have access to the glitch that allows you to collect a collectible and reload to teleport backwards)
Guys, I'm sorry, but bad news about this bug: after buying a new computer (a very powerful one), I realized that the better your computer's performance, the more powerful the Sonic Boost technique becomes (drastically more powerful, to the point that I'll personally need to relearn the Any% run). This means that fairness no longer exists in this speedrun. The more money you invest in your setup, the better your chances of getting a good time
Btw if you want I can send you my obs settings to have a better video encoding even when the game get very fast so it will be less blurry
I'm glad my strats inspired you, I hope you will continue on other missions or even for the any% ! btw in fact for the beginning I also use the jump off the platform sometimes but with a sonic boost, I also have 2 other strats to go in the second part with long jumps from the left or by jumping on the first wall in front of us when we spawn and walking on it I just do one strat or another depending on my current feeling because all those are different and inconsistent (btw your way to strafe seem to be way more consistent than a sonic boost for this first jump, I will train this !)
Performing the Sonic Boost :
- First of all, having a high mouse sensitivity can make it easier to perform.
- Hold 'W' and 'D' for diagonal movement to the right, then quickly move your camera to the right to spin clockwise
- Hold 'W' and 'A' for diagonal movement to the left, then quickly move your camera to the left to spin counterclockwise
- Choose the direction based on the situation
Mind the Terrain :
- Be cautious of obstacles, as even a small thing on the ground can make you lift off and send you airborne
- As the game is dumb (or strangely accurate on this specific point) the horizontal speed adds to the vertical speed when calculating fall damage, which can lead to instant death, even from low heights.
Bonus Glitch – The "AdrenaKill":
- (I haven’t seen this in other speedruns even if it looks basic so I explains it here just in case) If you have the upgrade that boosts your speed after a melee kill and the one that increases speed when you take an adrenaline pack, killing someone and then taking a pack after won’t give you much speed.
- However, if you take the adrenaline pack a fraction of a second >before< performing a melee kill (just by pressing both keys at the same time with a little delay) you’ll not have the animation of the kill and be able to continue running while the time dilatation is still here and experience a drastic multiplication of speed after the time dilatation. Combined with a Sonic Boost can be extremely powerful even with a single spin.
@Whose yes the whole run should be rethinked with the sonic boost, tbh I don't jump that much because of the risk/reward I think that maybe I should improve the quality of the spins and the routing to be sure to spin at the right time, do the right amount of spins etc. I also think that there's a lot of OOB to find now
I found an OOB in the training ground that get me in a place where I have a lot of space to test spins without falling so I will try to see how much we can stack a sonic boost, I also checked that gamepad controler's joystick are not usable to do a sonic boost because even at high sensitivity the camera don't move fast enough in SWGC, but I haven't tried to it could be usable if a joystick is connected to mouse horizontal movement through a software like X360CE, I guess it would be way easier to stack very very high speed if we can use joysticks, or even buy a mouse with a mappable joystick on it (I have one but mine works like a switch, not like a "normal joystick" giving a different value depending on movement range)
@Whose I think I found it because of my natural movement habits, often doing diagonal movement and play with very high mouse sensitivity,
I always had a strange feeling with movements on this game especially because I'm a game dev and I was 100% sure that there were big math problems behind movements, I saw few things like a strange fluidity while taking zigzag stairs
at the beginning I used to rework the run only using the AdrenaKill strat by going from enemies to enemies and one day I had very high speed from few adrenakill and miss the cut on an enemy and started to spin around him trying to cut him and got the sonic boost and got throwed from a cliff, I didn't understand directly but it was too much for my autistic brain so I did some tests the day after and found how to reproduce it
I have few ideas of why it's happening but not 100% sure
How did you found it in SGW3 btw???
