with the latter video lelreset posted, if you're holding forward and crouch, wait til you visibly see the crouch, then sprint, you can save a small amount of time on the animation
I think I may've posted this before, but a similar technique applies to shooting weapons that make you stand still or walk to shoot that you can also crouch with (ak, spraycan). This will save a tiny fraction of time every time you stop shooting a suitable weapon, which probably adds up to a few seconds through the run at best
in this case, you shoot, let go of aim, tap crouch, then switch weapons and sprint small comparison of shooting 'normally' and doing this https://streamable.com/ltbz3
edit: if people care about having these videos archived they should download them and rehost them to youtube because streamable deletes them after like a month)
da nang thang faster climbing youtube.com/watch?v=W5JpTXKtxTQ&t=3m45s
embedding breaks the timestamp
saves 2s
the initial climb could probably be better if crossing back over to the left side after getting onto the red crate and getting fast jumps but I didn't test that
first route is new, followed by old, maybe I messed something up with the old route idk
I dunno, I kinda agree but the leaderboard is so small that it depends on if people care enough or want to show more runs
as I've said before, (imo) if a leaderboard is popular enough there is no need to complain. It's hilarious arguing that ACE is bad while we have an ingame NG+ 100% leaderboard. If it's about the name, suggest something better and focus on that particular discussion, otherwise accept that it's a crappy name that still does the job
The only thing I personally think ¤could¤ be changed if people wanted is to change No ACE to it's own category rather than a variable. If that is done, I don't think it should be a misc category however.
I can argue my point further if there's any reason to
the thing about adding categories is that they should add some value of their own. Los santos as a category is played literally the same as the segment of the run in any%. Even 'all burglaries' (which I have deleted since your post as it seems every mod agrees it's dumb) adds variety from other categories.
If you want a leaderboard for a segment of any%, you'll have to make it yourself on a spreadsheet or something because there is 0 chance of the mods here adding it.
once a game becomes super optimised, people WILL have little to no fun with running it if the objective of the run itself isn't fun to them - beating the game as quickly as possible only appeals to a certain number of people if the gameplay itself isn't the draw, and I can agree that the current gameplay, a lot of people will not like.
in other leaderboards, once a game becomes super optimised, there's less of a 'stigma' about adding arbitrary categories that set challenges for people who enjoy the games that have fun gameplay (see: the recent redefinition of catch 'em all in pokemon r/b, RBA in pkmn r/b, OoT's MST, no im/ww, glitchless...). As long as people decide something has fun gameplay (by 'voting' with actually running the categories), I'm fine with seeing them on a leaderboard. I mean heck, we still have ingame NG+ 100% on the leaderboards because gael went full babyrage, why can't we have some other categories?
experience was good, I won't blog about stuff that I don't care about or don't have an opinion worth listening to on.
venue was fine imo, unsure about whether the streaming setup should be moved around in relation to the main hall where most hung out, I think having a setup like this is good , the one thing I will say though is a few more PCs would be majorly appreciated, it felt like there were too few to do stuff with if not practicing a run. I guess realistically there's no expectation of the venue to provide consoles, so this isn't really much different, and it's up to people to bring laptops etc, it's just a little less feasible to bring a desktop that can run games compared to a console
idk anything about masshousing.
actually trying to watch the marathon while at the marathon was difficult, I know there were lots of issues with 'suppliers' at first and that's when I wanted to watch some runs so I won't talk about that.
I dunno if this improved too, but I REALLY didn't like the interview stuff. it seemed so pointless and the questions asked were so banal (not at the fault of the interviewers necessarily). If there's nothing incredible about the run/runner to ask, don't have an interview, and if you do have an interview, don't try fill the entire downtime (10+ minutes in some cases) with an interview if there's nothing particular to ask. If as a host you have to think 'man I need to come up with some questions', then you should cut the interview, because in my case at least, I'm more likely to turn off a cringey interview than a downtime where nothing is happening.
camera shots of runners should be worked out a little better, sometimes the venue looked empty because the camera would be only showing (in some cases, barely) the runner. In the downtime between runs there should be shots of everyone doing their thing in the background. It helps to catch the 'assembly' aspect of ESA
I'll probably update this post with stuff when I think of stuff
I agree with lev pretty much, I specifically said that autosplitters are debatably cheating at the time within IRC, but the pen & paper rule at the time worked just fine.
I don't see a reason for it to remain, it's a race category and the objective is 'complete this arbitrary mission' - there have probably been an equal amount of Portland races, and definitely more GTASA Los Santos races, but people are strongly against having those on the boards - the only difference here is that you do a very small amount of missions you wouldn't usually do in any%.
with recent talks of what should/shouldn't be deleted, this has been the low-hanging fruit as to why other boards should exist.
- Delete the leaderboard
- Keep the leaderboard
- I don't care strongly enough either way
I'd gladly see the less popular collectible categories gone (IE: VC USJs, not All robberies since that's actually had competition and been pushed, debatably VC Packages).
We can delay this talk and look at other boards first if other boards existing while this isn't allowed to is the problem.
that isn't the ONLY reason I'd want to see NG+, ingame, 100% though. The other key reason is the number of stupid 'variables' (NG+ being the key one) being applied to such a run. Why should such a vague concept be a leaderboard in the first place? I don't see any reason for it to be whatsoever. This also applies to Kingdom come once again, it's a really convoluted and pointless leaderboard.
I understand that there are other leaderboards (VCS any%-J, kingdom come) that should be removed if ingame hundo is to be removed, but I'd be happy to see that happen since they should be gone too imo
edit: I should add that one of the key reasons for my opinion that it should be removed is the lack of popularity for the leaderboard in such a popular game (one way to look at it is that less than 2% of any% runners have done a run of this category)
the actual content of the run (which I dislike) shouldn't be brought into question when making the decision; so this isn't about it being a "meme"
ah, yeah, I'm changing my vote to B with the wording issues that powdinet has mentioned, I initially misunderstood the reason for this being brought up
B, read below
any chance of moderator stats for series mods (ie: runs approved/rejected)?
oh, and there's documentation of which dupes work here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nx8oqAXSgTry1Bkdr0gzj3ayMhEndjX0ctuOv-n2Qnw/edit#gid=1318681715
hopefully those testing will update with what they couldnt get to work (not as a definitive 'dont try this anymore', but so we can narrow down what seems 'simple' to do
