Haven’t checked it out yet but seems like a good place to start
How do you exit to menu while in game? I have to keep closing the game and re-opening to reset runs. Can't figure out if there is a control for this somewhere?
Like the title says, congrats! I’ve been really enjoying LE casually, learning the game and the mechanics behind it. Hoping to now learn the speedrun after watching the current runs a bit!
Working on some runs for it (admittedly got distracted by other games) as well. The game is a blast to play.
@Pear Maybe not, but now that the thread has been revived from the dead and is at the top of the forum it probably doesn't hurt to have a few current recommendations for people who inevitably click in the thread looking for an answer.
For what it's worth I use OpenShot video editor. I really only have used it to trim videos so I can't speak to total functionality but it is free, and it does work.
I like to speedrun because I have a competitive personality, and racing against / challenging myself is very satisfying. I get to be competitive without worrying about other people or things outside of my control, while talking about games I love with like minded people. I also find the repetition of runs to be relaxing and almost meditative which allows me to focus my brain on the task at hand instead of thinking about a thousand different things at once.
I think High Score challenges are kind of a relic of the arcade age. It takes great skill to achieve top score in any game, but the vast majority of games these days aren't built around a scoreboard like that anymore. Speedrunning is appealing (to me at least) because you can take any game and break it down, find new routes, new strategies and new optimizations to get through it quicker and more efficiently. Pretty much any game out there can be broken down like this which opens it up to a wider variety of people from all different gaming backgrounds. If I don't enjoy shmups I can still compete in platformers, or puzzle games etc.
I think that posting your age publicly is a silly risk to take, speedrunning is great and most of the community are wonderful people but on any site this large there is always the risk of predators lurking out there trying to take advantage of young people. Super frustrating and unfortunate when you are understandably trying to connect with people your age in a hobby you are passionate about, so be very careful who you talk with and what you tell them about yourself.
Hey Avasam,
I'm on Win10, and I activated the autosplitter through the "activate" button, I did not manually download the .asl file. Autosplitter works fine on first load (generally) but if I need to reset (if? who am I kidding... WHEN) it doesn not recognize resetting form the pause menu, and 90% of the time doesn't recognize if I save+quit and start a new game from the main menu. Re-starting LiveSplit will get the autosplitter to work, I have not tried closing and re-starting the game at all.
Re-starting livesplit is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things, so no major issue. Good luck on the grind! Happy to see these leaderboards getting some action lately!
Ah yeah, I've been doing the same. Good to know the reasoning behind it though. The splitter works great when it's running!
Hey Avasam, first and foremost thanks for making the autosplitter! I imagine it takes quite a bit of work to get it going. I have encountered a few issues with it over the past day where it doesn't start on a reset, and also doesn't start if I save and quit and then start a new game. I have also had it start randomly when adjusting settings in the options menu before beginning runs.
These issues only seem to happen occasionally, as I can sometimes go 5-10 runs with it working perfectly. In anycase, it still works pretty well and is a super useful tool!
Interesting. I haven't been able to get it to happen again, but I have only made a couple of attempts. Glad I am not the only one who has seen it though.
I found a glitch today while practicing the All Bunnies category. After finding Bethany I for some reason turned invisible and was teleported to just inside the wall next to the purple cube that took me up to her. I'm going to try and replicate this again and see if I can find what triggers it / if it is at all useful for out of bounds movement. It's the first time I've encountered a glitch like this in the game, so not sure what would be possible if I can replicate it.
Has anyone else come across something like this?
Awesome! I'm glad to see the category has been officially added as well.
I like your video guide! Good job on the routing for All Bunnies. I think it makes for a great category, and is a nice intermediate length between Any% and 100% similar to All Artefacts. Definitely some room for optimization as well, I'm sure you can drive that record much lower of you weren't focusing on commentating. I am going to try and learn your route and also submit a run in the next couple of days!
