Game Name: I wanna be the Boshy
System: PC
Category: any% (Dark Boshy, no Wrong Warp)
Gameplay Estimate (excluding ending and bonus content): 40 minutes
Ending/Bonus Estimate: ~5 minutes for Kappa, ~5 minutes for Cheetahmen, ~5 minutes for real any%
Possible Donation Incentives: Beat optional Kappa boss, beat optional Cheetahmen boss, do a real any% run
Sample run video (strongly encouraged but not required): [My PB that was retimed to be 7 frames away from the record]
Description: A very difficult and fast paced 2D platformer in the style of I wanna be the Guy. Has a lot of references to oldschool games (Kirby, Mario, Sonic, Ryu just to name a few) and is generally seen as a very fun watch. A downside is that there is very little time to actually explain what is going on, because the game needs a lot of focus to do well (circumvented by finding a commentator?). Boshy has been played during several marathons already, including my 100% run during ESA 2015, and it always had above average reception (from what I can tell at least)
I'm going to ask other runners for a potential race.
My availability should be anywhere from Friday evening (~8 pm CET) to Sunday evening (~10 pm CET), but I would prefer to not run in the middle of the night for the sake of my sleeping schedule.
1 block holes are a known pain in the ass. Try walking away from it a bit before trying again. They are NEVER impossible to do.
Skeleton King's Fireballs can not be manipulated to our knowledge, you just need to learn to handle them properly.
Dark Boshy can't hit the save before doing the jump, normal Boshy can. It's the only helper block that actually makes a segment more difficult.
You will (probably) not have anyone else competing in that category, but you may of course do whatever you want.
But who knows, more people may get interested into running that as a start to Boshy running, because it cuts down on some of the more frustrating parts.
I used to have this issue. Are you using Gastly?
Other than that, starting to get better times made it disappear. Pretty sure no one knows what causes it and how to fix it. Reloading a bunch at the start of World 10 seemed to make it go away, but that costs time.
For Boshy 100%:
Kappa boss fight: Usually skipped because killing all bosses is not a requirement for 100%, adds like 2 minutes to the run, low chance of fuck ups because it's very easy.
"true" any% run (played after 100%): Using the "Wrong Warp" glitch you can beat the game in less than 5 minutes. No one actually runs this category because it is tedious as hell, but nice to show off.
No idea what the required donation goal should be, both are pretty short incentives, but everyone loves Kappa so there's that.
Boshy 100% can be lowered to 1:00:00.
I thought estimates should include donation incentives too, but I guess no?
Paid.
The I wanna be the Boshy 100% estimate can be lowered to 1 hour.
I got a 1:07 on my first run since 2 months today, so I should very consistently get sub 1 hour once I start practicing a lot.
I plan on attending for the entire week of runs (28th till 5th), maybe I have to cut it short and arrive at July 1st or 2nd depending on how long I can take off work.
Paid.
Got a 33:58 in Boshy any% earlier today. Really unhappy about how that run went, and I feel like I can do much better still.
"We will be giving you until the 13th of May 2015"
From the opening post.
32:24 (that is for No WrongWarp/Dark Boshy only/Average)
No one runs "true" any% with wrong warps.
Update for my Boshy time:
I recently got a 50:28 in 100%, which improves the previous WR (51:56) by almost 90 seconds. I'm confident I will get sub 50 before ESA happens.
For any% I want to get a low 33 time until ESA, but I'm not sure how feasible that is.
Is anyone flying from Frankfurt? If yes I would love to tag along, because it's my first time traveling with a plane and I don't travel outside of Germany pretty much at all by myself.
