In Bowser's, you only need 2 non-story moons and there are a bunch that you can get without much out of your way. Walking around the odyssey and spawn the iron fence moon instead of just progressing towards the story moons is much slower than just grabbing one of the moons on the way to the story moons. In categories where you want more than just the 2 non-story moons, then it can be pretty fast, but you usually get it after defeating the mecha-broodal, so then you can just globe after getting the iron fence moon.

For Notes in Lake Kingdom, it's a similar thing. The ground pound moon to your left when you enter the kingdom is a very fast moon and to get Notes, you would have to go do the notes first, then go back and get the ground pound moon. If you didn't need to take the time of actually collecting the notes and spawning the moon, then it would probably be faster, but it takes less than 10 seconds to grab the hidden passage moon and you finish right above the fish you want to capture so it ends up being a lot faster. In categories that collect the notes moon, it is usually grabbed after defeating Rango for that reason.
