Generally, most runs are doing on vanilla compatible source ports. The best and most widely used is Prboom+ or Glboom+.
probably this
this game NEEDS to be broken! If it was a little shorter it would be a good speedgame.
Going to request moderator or super moderator status for either myself or TheMaster on the Left 4 Dead leaderboard. The two current mods refuse to post on the forum or reply to various posts and contact.

Hello again, all. I'm looking to get started speedrunning this game. Which version would you recommend getting? Is emulator acceptable or should I look into getting the VC version or SNES version? Thanks!
So it appears the other thread was deleted and this was reopened. Fair enough. Here was my deleted message in the other thread.
Hello all, I believe we got off on the wrong foot here. The previous thread was locked unnecessarily without a resolution, so I will try again.
As you can see here, Any% is a term which directly implies that you are allowed to beat the game without any restrictions:
Now, the category labeled "Any%" on this website actually has restrictions, thus making the category label incorrect. I understand that "it's always been this way", but that's not an argument. For that argument to hold water, then the times can never be improved, as any improvement is a modification to the run, and not old anymore.
Yes, yes, I realize I do not run this game. I don't care about the game. I do, however, care about the English language and consistency within it. Running Super Metroid is completely irrelevant to you all deciding to mislabel a category. As people mentioned in the previous thread, other games completely unrelated to this have similar issues. I'll get to those later. For now, let's fix this.
You all have absolutely no reason to keep things "the way they are". As I've explained, it's not tradition, it's just incorrect. I also appreciate how I was called an authoritarian, right before my thread was locked by a moderator. Ironic.
I'm completely civil here. If you want to hurl insults at me for providing a real fix to a real issue, then feel free to showcase your obvious lack of maturity and respect, but I'd appreciate if we could keep this discussion between rational adults.
Thank you for your time.
Keep in mind, I've not insulted anyone or caused any heat, others have done it toward me. Pretty inclusive community amirite?
All I'm saying is fix the category names. They're outdated and serve no practical purpose. I don't really care what the contents of them are, and couldn't care less about this game as a whole, but I do care about consistency across speedrunning when it comes to things like category names. Especially in a game this big.
I'm not here to cause drama or make an uproar, I'm here to help you all look less retarded in front of the rest of the speedrunners. That's all.
Why won't you answer my questions without strawmanning, obfuscating, and insulting me? Very mature.
And if the other categories have similar issues, fix them. Stop defending it. Literally takes less than two seconds to add "NMG" to the end of any% on this site (as its listed on deertier btw) and it solves this entire issue. All you're doing is causing unnecessary drama and making a, as you put it, mountain out of a molehill.
Also, stop deflecting to other games, I'll get to them later.
So far, it seems all 3 people who speedrun the game say "yeah it should be changed but the 'community' doesn't want it to".
So, as far as I can see it's agreed that the rules are stupid and it's based on "tradition" and people want to change it but are afraid of angering some invisible members of the "community" even though they're objectively incorrect.
Why should people tolerate something that has no upside? What's the advantage? Why won't anyone answer this question? All I see is scapegoating and obfuscation from my points of argument.
Why not have this discussion again now with everyone now that the boards being ported over, now is a perfect time to fix these glaring issues.
The main category isn't glitchless, though. So, that's why it should be No Major Glitches instead.
Not too hard. It's in no way a silly argument. I could buy the evolution of language if it was with every game in the community, but it's with this game. Dawg vs dog is not an equivalent argument at all. Nice try, though (not really).
As Crisco said, it would cause no negative impact toward anyone, and only cause positive impact toward newer runners. That's literally it. You don't have to rename vods, that's just silly. The fact that you even debated this is quite honestly hilarious. It's such a one-sided and objective standpoint that I cannot see how anyone could possibly generate any sort of counter-point besides a useless strawman (like you did with random n64 games no one cares about).
Just change it to NMG, or Any% NMG or whatever. It only has pros, and no cons. It's not hard, and it will make people take you more seriously. There's literally no possible reason not to.
That doesn't really mean anything though, foosda. That's like calling a run that gets 78% of the items 100%. It's factually incorrect. Should we allow things that are factually incorrect just because a "community" of people don't understand the English language? I don't run the game, sure, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Calling a run the "any% world record" when it is slower by 30 minutes is factually wrong and misleading. It also makes no sense. If I'm preaching to the choir, then change the category names.
I'm fine with this.
Wish I could say the same about your answer.
Why isn't "any%" the fastest category? Can someone explain how and why "any%" is restrictive?
Ideally you should have a video, if its absolutely not possible for you for whatever reason, then it would depend on your final time i suppose.
My favorite part of the marathon was going to sleep looking at my run block being at 6pm and waking up the next morning seeing it was changed to 12am. Classic.
not bad
the only difference is ability to appoint new mods lol
tfw im the only non supermod :( :( :(
