Before this speedrun website existed, we used to have the leaderboards on Zelda Speedruns.

Glyph and steel crocodile are correct. This was basically the same list currently seen for full any% runs that was transferred from ZSR but the difference was stating whether the run involved 1 or 2 players (setup for console was a nightmare with 3 capture cards and 2 GameCubes with Gameboy Player attachments but I did a co-op run as “26pointcrew” before most of the major glitches were discovered, especially using the boomerang). Also, there are some slight differences with using emulators, though I have only done a little bit of testing with Dolphin and mGBA.

Also, a little history, Navi and I were added as mods for the Four Swords Adventures section of ZSR after SGDQ. I wasn’t active during the time that Speedrun.com was being setup but Navi has been good about building the community and verifying runs.

Nice!

I’m definitely down to try glitchless (or something similar like No Major Glitches/Skips) for fun. For now, sounds like the core of the run/routing is single player only throughout (I unfortunately lost my GCN-GBA cables and GBA when moving so at the moment I can’t do the 2P skips using the boomerang for 8-3). 2-2, 4-1 and 8-1 and a few other levels would be the older route. I have both the US and JP versions but would definitely need to read in the Lost Woods level (hopefully Deku shrubs don’t ask for a sign).

Also, congrats Navi on grinding out the tricks and re-routing to bring WR down to sub-2 hours!

I personally am okay with anyone else doing runs on emulator, especially to help the community grow. I can understand the challenges for verification and streaming as someone who did this run on console (GameCube with the Gameboy Player attachment).

I have tried emulator with Gambatte and it seems stable for the most part (including lag with quite a few units on the field).

Just a heads up that communities for other Gameboy games that are competitive with highly optimized routing (namely Pokémon Red/Blue) are stricter on which type of emulator and settings (displaying the FPS and the window).

Good job! Looks clean.

Glitchless is an interesting category (mainly for no reset runs and not being forced to grind out the early game major skips).

A long time ago I did a single player GBA controller run when I was prepping for co-op (makes it practically impossible to do the C stick formation tricks) and might revisit it more seriously now while learning the newer strategies.
