Hey all,
Obviously I just set this leaderboard up and am looking for community feedback as far as whether RTA or IGT should be the "canonical" measurement.
Looking at the gaps between IGT vs. RTA for different players, it looks to me like some computers may have significant slowdown that makes getting top RTA times unfeasible... but I don't know how accurate IGT is without slowdown either.
What do you all think?
We've discussed this a bunch in our circle of runners. I guess having both times featured is useful, and personally I lean more towards in-game time because the gains from being able to perform more actions per second/minute due to a slower computer isn't actually that useful in my opinion, whereas real time can change a lot based on different machines/browsers and screw over people with weaker machines.
IGT is not accurate for this game, stocks and a few other things are on a separate timer and will be relatively faster on slower computers compared to IGT.
Anyone have any tips on reducing the gap between igt and rta? My machine's not cutting edge but it's pretty new and really shouldn't have any issues running a little clicker game. I can't detect any noticeable lag and task manager indicates cpu and memory are fine. I'm using firefox since when I first played the game on chrome there were a few crashes but firefox seems good except for the big igt to rta gap
It isn't really normally about lag it is just about how often the browser runs the main loop. For me firefox is 5% to 10% slower when measured so you probably need to use chrome.
If you have a slow enough computer it will start to run the main loop less because of lag but I would guess that for most it is just about browser.
I agree with superhiero that having both time is important in the Leaderboards but I don't agree with him saying that computer specs makes a difference. It does make a difference but not that much (unless in some very rare exception like I found out with Firefox but at this point, just learn and make another run). And then, I did some testing with Edge in Lowest versus Highest Priority, doesn't make much of a difference. On top of that, slow computer hardware and old clunky web browser doesn't impact much of the game because the proof is there in the Leaderboards, look at runs at 7y old, their IGT is close to RT.
I agree with Kragnir that IGT is not accurate. It's a fun timer though. You can have a good conversation with AI about it to learn about it in this game. IGT goes up depending on what you do in the game, totally different from RT. For example, Eliipsis run is RT 04:52:31 and IGT 2:55:08, huge difference but it's mainly because he took bathroom breaks and was just waiting in the game while doing absolutely nothing (except smelling his hair, he must have a very good smelling shampoo). RT gets higher but IGT barely move because he is not interacting with the game.
On the other side with Kragnir run of TAS limited at 30 actions per second, it has a difference of 3s only. Available @ youtube.com/watch?v=9Yxtud2lfhg
If fitz1889 is still here, don't use Firefox to have a better difference between IGT and RT and also don't stall, you need to click on stuff all the time, make Paperclips all the time, don't stall. I have a consistent 2m07 to 2m31 difference in about 140 runs.
I'm about to release a spreadsheet with all the runs, the times and the difference between RT and IGT with my comments. Stay tuned before taking any actions, coming hopefully this week-end.
But right now with the information I have. I would clearly vote to make the default timer RT and not IGT like it is right now because it's not that really different with different computers and different browsers even after 7y.
Other games using IGT is Celeste and Metal Gear Solid 3 but totally different from a web browser. A lot more accurate.
Just finished another run with latest Firefox 141 and Windows 11 24H2. Like I said in another thread, it's a bad browser for this game, it's so slow. Turns out if you know the game very well, you can make a really good IGT because it's so slow that you have the time to interact in the game. You can actually see how slow the game is in Stage 3 with Combats. Also not sure why but there is something about this slowness and the fact you get lucky in Investments most of the time.
I've submitted my latest run which breaks all records even Kragnir TAS @ youtube.com/watch?v=xQLRGZ3BIsY
Kragnir TAS stands at 1h27m57s IGT and RT at 1h28m00s, just 3s difference. My new latest record breaking run is 1h27m41s IGT and RT of 2h16m50s so a difference of 49m09s but is IGT 16s better than a TAS script which clearly doesn't make sense. How can a human beat a TAS?
There is even ways to improve this game with Firefox to reach stage 2 faster and get Momentum faster and whatnot. It's a different type of run than what you usually expect with Edge or Chrome.
Also, turns out that yesterday I made a run with Edge and at 26m, OBS crashed making Edge really slow, I was able to restart OBS while Edge was still running so I still have the full run recorded but missing about 10 seconds or so. Turns out that it was a really good run since Edge was sluggish like Firefox, made a 1h39m20s IGT and a 1h54m22s RT, difference of 15m02s.
That makes me think, there should the information about the run on which OS, which version of it, which web browser and which version. That will help in the future to better details what runners are using.
