I've checked the rules and the community archives, and it looks like keybindings that allow entering a combination of two keys (like crtl+r for snap scrolling in this game) aren't allowed.
I'd vote to make (at least) one exception, which is the case of ScummVM-exclusive shortcuts. Not sure whether this specific topic has already been settled, so sorry if it has!
When using ScummVM, you can quickload and quicksave using ctrl+number or alt+number. This feature wasn't in the original game; this is a ScummVM feature.
ScummVM itself allows configuring keybindings for many shortcuts, and as far as I can tell there's no limitation like "shortcuts must be a combination of two keys". For example, the default shortcut to quit is ctrl+q, but you can change it to just "q" instead. Currently ScummVM doesn't allow (as far as I know) configuring the shortcuts to save and load, but it might do so in the future.
Finding a way to bind this functionality to just one key seems to me like overcoming a limitation of the emulator; it has nothing to do with the game since the game didn't allow quicksaves. Other emulators allow using a single key to quickload/quicksave, so why not use some other software (or keyboards that come with this feature built-in) to add this feature to ScummVM as well?
ScummVM's default shortcuts are also a possible source of mistakes that are unrelated to the game but more related to the operating system / desktop environment. You could (for instance) try to type alt+4 but type alt+f4 instead, which will most likely result in closing the game window. Funny enough, the shortcut I use to close a window is alt+period. That makes typing period to skip Guybrush's insult and then immediately typing alt+number to quicksave very dangerous. Right now I'm remapping my shortcut each time I play the game, but would love to avoid that.
End of rant :). Thanks for reading!
