Any% Speedrun Guide (Updated: 12/28/2022)

Downpatching the game using the Steam console (Load Remover fix)

Recently, the latest update of Transistor broke our load remover. As the community is not the most active one, and the load remover was complicated to create in the first place, an easy and quick way to make it work again is to roll back to the previous version of the game through the Steam Console. The game will be identical to the latest version, and the load remover will work. This guide is adapted from this [Hollow Knight guide](https://www.speedrun.com/hollowknight/guide/jlten).

**v1.1: added the Steam patcher to re-enable this method**

(0. Make a backup of all the files in Steam/steamapps/common/Transistor but don't delete them)
1. You need to download the Steam patcher [here](https://github.com/fifty-six/zig.SteamManifestPatcher/releases/download/v3.1/SteamDepotDownpatcher.exe). This file is safe, and made by a person of trust, here is the [GitHub page of the patcher](https://github.com/fifty-six/zig.SteamManifestPatcher) if you want to check it yourself.
2. After having opened Steam, launch the downloaded executable to patch it. You'll need to do this again every time you restart your computer or Steam and want to downpatch.

You can now proceed normally:

3. Press Win+R to bring up the run menu and type in "steam://nav/console" to access the Steam console.
4. Enter the following command into the console:

download_depot 237930 237933 8900471598185769028

5. Wait until the download is complete: there will be no indication of progress within the client until the end.
6. A directory will be printed into the Steam console at the end of the download: move all the newly downloaded games files from here to the game folder and choose "replace" for every pre-existing file. 
7. Launch the game through Steam as normal: the game should be on the previous patch.

Tips and Setups, Any% only

**__-- Basic Tips --**__

When you're jaunting to something you're going to "E" interact with, always try to jaunt right to it. You can interact with it immediately so you don't have to wait for the cooldown.

When you're in "OOB" mode by any glitch, you can only exit fight barriers by walking.

**__-- Particular tips --__**

On the spine chase sequence, only jaunt four times between each hit. This makes it easier to get hit every time and get the earliest possible forced Turn().

On the spine fight, do not stand where you are placing Load()s. If you do, the spine's attack will set them off and slow the fight down.

On the OVC jump in Bracket Towers, press turn *after* you reach the top of the Maintenance Tunnel but before exiting it.

**__-- Menuing Tips --**__

When you menu, use the keyboard as much as is possible. 'R' removes the program, and the number keys 1-4 assign the program to a slot. If the slot is already filled, it adds it as an 'upgrade' to that program. The passive slot must be assigned manually. The way I do each menu is shown below.

__Menu 1__
Remove Crash, then add it to spark on 3.
Remove Breach.
Add Load then Breach on 2.
Add Bounce on 1. Do this to avoid the prompt saying you can add more.

__Menu 2__
Remove Crash, Breach, and Bounce.
Add Get, then Crash and Breach to 1.
Add Mask to 4 if you have it.
Add Bounce to passive.

__Menu 3__
Add Load to 2.
Add Help to 4.
Add Crash to 4.
Add Breach to 2.
Add Spark to 3.
Add Jaunt to passive.

**__-- Set ups for skips and fights --**__

This assumes you already know the location of each of these skips from the video tutorial from Strife or another video. They're shown in the pictures. The names are stupid and entirely my own, as are the diagrams.


__The Chicken Fight Skip__
For this one, you want to position yourself on the break in the light, on the edge of the light floor, then place your cursor on the fourth pillar, then jaunt. The player location and jaunt cursor location are shown below.

__The Dog Fight Skip__
You want to click on the edge shown. You can pretty easily line up with the dark floor line and the white boxes on the floor. Jaunt there, then place your cursor on the topmost floor joint corner and jaunt again. All shown in the diagrams.

__The Worm Skip__
Start by moving to the joint between the two small boxes. Then, Jaunt with the cursor where the white pillar overlaps the bottom of the electronic component. Finally, jaunt to the stairs, with the cursor about 5 stars up on the leftmost edge.

__Bracket Towers Fight__
This fight can be done almost entirely scripted. If you get into location and do everything in order, everything should be dead super quick every time. Start by moving as shown. I generally line up a tiny bit above the grate shadow thing, directly below the big guy. You place four loads behind the big guy, and one near the snapshot and cheerleader. Wait until the cheerleader's shield is off, then spark them, and quickly spark the big guy. There may be a badcell left.

__The Goldwalk Skip__
This skip is really touchy. Be careful lining up for it. You want to line up against the wall such that with red facing the wall, the transistor's tip is touching the left side of the leftmost notch. Then, place your cursor on the rightmost notch of the center set of the group of notches below the posters. Jaunt, then move down.

__The 2 Mans Fight__
Like the Bracket Towers fight, this can be entirely scripted. It's pretty touchy though. This one's too hard to put in text, so I'll let the picture speak for itself. Just remember to wait for the Man to stop being wispy before you spark the first set of loads, and don't move after you do that, just do the next set of loads.

__The Last Hard Skip__
Yes, the one where you can barely see Red through the broken windows. The way I set up for this is gingerly moving Red down the wall until she gets sort of stuck, then moving back up to another little groove. You really need to get a feel for it, but I've provided a diagram of where she should end up. After she's there, place your cursor in the middle of the "1" ability slot, jaunt, then jaunt again through the corner.

Transistor Low% Route

Fights are numbered in the order you would trigger them in the Any% route. For visual references, just watch a run.

-Bay-
Clear as normal, none of the fights can be skipped.

-Goldwalk-
GW1: Jaunt around the edge.
GW2: QQ the Channel entrance, jaunt into the fight. Be careful not to stand next to the Creep, his pushback can transfer and stick on you, ruining the next skip.
Channel: Jaunt around the corner. QQ the OVC, jaunt towards the fight, then boundary glitch it by walking by the wall. Keep the OVC open and exit the Channel.
GW3: Activate OVC glitch on the underpass.

-Empty Set-
Move to the pier on the right. Jaunt down. Move down, then right, then up, then left onto the stage.
If you use a controller, you can just Jaunt this route and know where you are by how many Jaunt you've done. On KB/Mouse, you'll just need to count for how long you've been moving, get acquainted with the way the collision is set up, and listen for when you pass by the off-screen save point (turn right as soon as you do).

Sybil: Unsure about optimal strats. Spamming Spark is effective, switching to Breach(Spark) is effective. Just don't die.

-Pier-
Same as Any%, mash Turn when you enter the underpass to lose collision.

-Canals-
C1, C2, C3: Same as Any%, Jaunt to boundary glitch C1, Jaunt around the right triggers, then defeat C3.
C4, C5: After clearing C3, move up to the OVC, activate it using a nearby Weed. Move further through the area, up on the overpass. When moving down, into C4, trigger the OVC and move down out of the level. (You can't OVC the first passage because you're unable to use Turn there.)

-Highrise 1-
HR1: Clear as normal.
HR2: Even though this fight can be skipped, don't. Clear it.
Elevator: QQ the button, then Jaunt down and to the left to reach the save point - you should have just enough distance to reach it. Mash E to save before the elevator is all the way up. Reload, then move through unblocked areas to the right of the elevator to Jaunt up. This ensures the Spine Skip will not softlock the game.
HR3: Boundary glitch by Jaunting around the corner. Skip everything else.

-Highrise 2-
Jaunt past the gazebo. Jaunt up to the Jerk. Jaunt back to the left, while tanking damage from the Spine, until you reach the OVC. Activate it, then move back to the right; be careful of your Turn charge, don't die, but try not to get lost. At the Greenhouse, trigger the OVC, then move up all the way to the Spine. Position yourself at the edge of the little roof over the doorway, then click it, to skip the Spine.

-Bracket Towers-
First, enter Archives. SaveQQ the first fight, causing a boundary glitch. Proceed through the level and activate the firewall lock. Backtrack all the way to the OVC, ensuring at least one Snapshot follows you. Use him to activate OVC (don't click any buttons yet). Return to the elevator, try not to die, go back to the concourse.

Enter Maintenance and immediately trigger the OVC (before the area loads). Jaunt up to the firewall lock and go back to the concourse.
SaveQQ the last fight, proceed to Grant and Asher.

-Return to Empty Set-
RES1: Clear as normal.
RES2: Jaunt to boundary glitch as normal.

-Return to Goldwalk-
RGW1: Jaunt past as normal.
RGW2: Clear as normal.

-Return to Bay-
RB1: Clear as normal.
RB2: Set up an OVC on the 5 Snapshots. Make sure not to just Jaunt into the fight; you have to wasd-mode for the snapshots to shoot at you, for some reason. Try not to die. Trigger the OVC on the overpass, then move down-left. The camera will eventually reset. This also skips Royce's Proxy.

-Fairview-
FV1: Clear as normal.
FV2: SaveQQ as normal.
FV3: Clear as normal.
FV4: Jaunt past as normal.
FV5: Jaunt past as normal.
SaveQQ after FV5 to Jaunt into Royce's catwalk. Reload, and Jaunt through the entire thing. As normal.

-Royce-
Help() - Load() - Crash() - Jaunt(). Could maybe put Breach on there somewhere. Be careful with your Turn use, you do not have much room for error.
