I've just started practicing a single segment run for this game and have some questions. Where does your run differ from a single segment? Is there any rng manipulation or setup done in the fish mini game? I'm finding it hard to actually get the green fish as my reaction time isn't quick enough. Would it be worth going for the portable hole in the jail cell to cut down on travel time? I'll play around with it myself but was wondering if there is a reason you don't use it in your run. I'm running the game in scummvm so things might work a little differently but any help would be appreciated.
Hello.
As far as I remember in the fish minigame first two fish are always purple. I did the run in a multi segmented fashion in order to grind for the fastest RNG on it (green fish as a 3rd fish). No special manipulations.
I'm not sure about a portable hole being beneficial in the run. When I did my runs of this game I was clearly aware of it but still didn't use it — probably because by my calculations (of that time) right-click transitions were faster. At least on DOSBox. I never run this game on ScummVM due to it being prohibited by SDA rules.
The notes I took on this game's speedrun: http://speeddemosarchive.com/Toonstruck.html I used 50000 CPU cycles back then, I would recommend using cpu=auto setting for those who would want to run this game on DOSBox.
