About FPS limit in Gauntlet

I have some questions about the rule change

My gauntlet that I ran at 30 FPS was rejected

Some of the top 5 players recently posted don't have FPS displayed

Why are they allowed

And the 1st place in my "Damage Boosting No Pre Speed" category is running at 36 FPS.

If 60 FPS or less is not allowed because of the rule change, shouldn't records without FPS display or records below 60 FPS from before the rule change be deleted?

If the past record of 36 FPS remains, doesn't 60 FPS mean that you have to run under unfavorable conditions?

Speed running is about speed, right?

What is the difference between the bugs like ANY% wall-passing to seek speed, CKF that does not exist in the game, and mods such as speed display that are allowed and 30 FPS is not allowed?

CKF in particular has a direct effect on the game and can be banned in online games.

I would like the moderator to explain.

Not a mod, but as a rule of thumb runs from before rules were changed are allowed to stay up because they were verified under the rules at the time the run was submitted. Runs dont usually get retroactively removed. The reason why 60fps is the floor is because lower fps give higher speeds from wallkicks, so if there was no floor the run would eventually turn into playing a slideshow just to get the highest possible speed.

Out of bounds have been allowed in any% for years and a normal part of speedrunning, CKF exists to level the playing field for all runners so certain hardware is not a requirement to run, and i shouldnt really need to explain why being able to see your speed in a speedrun is allowed.

Thank you for your reply.

I have no complaints about wall-passing, the speedometer, and CKF, so I'm not saying they should be removed.

However, if these are allowed, I don't understand why less than 60 FPS is not allowed.

Wall kicks are difficult, taking 1 to 5 ticks, but mods are not allowed and players practice, right?

I think the same is true for low FPS.

If the lower the FPS, the faster you accelerate, so I think it should be used as a technique.

And low FPS doesn't just have the benefit of accelerating, it also has the disadvantages of making it harder to know when to kick the wall and making it harder to aim at the enemy.

As for the problem of it looking like a slideshow, the minimum FPS has been set at 30 FPS since before the rule change, and there were 36 FPS runs before the rule change, so I don't think it will become as extreme as 10 FPS.

However, these are just my personal thoughts, so I don't see it as a big problem.

What I'm most concerned about this time is that the recently posted TOP 5 Gauntlet videos were approved despite not displaying the FPS, and that records from before the rule change remain.

The rules say that the FPS must be displayed and that it must be 60 FPS, but the fact that something without the FPS display was approved and my 30 FPS was rejected makes me think that the moderators' standards are unclear.

And if records of 36 FPS from before the rule change remain, that means that to get to number one in the rankings I have to challenge for a disadvantageous 60 FPS, which I think is a big problem.

Shouldn't this be given a bit more thought?

I forgot to mention in my recent post that I use translation software, so both my previous post and this one may have been poorly written.

I apologize.

Hey niwazeki, thank you for reaching out and voicing your concerns. I totally understand your frustration about the rejection and any confusion around the rule change, especially when there are still runs on the board that appear to break or predate the current rules. I also wanted to say, no worries at all about translation, your points have been clearly communicated.

I wanted to clarify a few things regarding your concerns. As mentioned, your run was rejected due to the current FPS rule, which sets 60 FPS as the minimum. This change was made to level the playing field and specifically reduce the impact of hardware-based advantages. You're right to point out that some top 5 runs don't show FPS or appear to be under the new threshold. Those were accepted either before the rule went into effect or by mistake, which thank you for bringing awareness to those. Also, we're currently discussing how to address legacy runs that are affected by this rule change. We don't plan to retroactively remove historical runs. Many of them were valid at the time they were submitted, and we want to preserve the history of the leaderboard as much as possible.

On the topic of CKF and other mods: the community voted to allow CKF back in 2022 because crouch kicks were being inconsistently affected by hardware differences. CKF was implemented to ensure that the movement tech stays skill-based rather than hardware-dependent. The same principle applies to requiring a minimum FPS—it’s about creating a consistent, fair baseline for competitive runs. As for mods like speed display, they're allowed because they don't affect gameplay itself. They're QoL tools that help runners and mods alike, unlike sub-60 FPS which can affect game physics or mechanics.

Let me know if you have more questions or if there's anything else you'd like clarified, and again, I apologize on this impacting your run. We're working through how to best handle this situation, and we're always open to feedback.

Thank you for your replies.

I had a lot of complaints this time, which is why I made this post, but I was able to understand after you answered my questions and explained the community's way of thinking.

Thank you both.
