New Optimizations

As some of you can see, this game has become much faster after PakaChan played around with it. I'd like to go over some of the new strats that Paka is using, compared to what I used to beat Die_mann's original World Record run.

  • In most cases, Paka uses First-Person, and jumps often. It seems that this saves a few seconds over regularly running over the course of each mission. However, it is not always the easiest choice when you're in a crowded hallway with a low ceiling.

  • The dialogue when you meet Hermes, Horace, and Dr. Killjoy, can all be skipped by making a new Save File, Loading said Save File, and repeating, until the fight starts to activate "Monster Masherino" mode. Supposedly, Paka found this on accident.

  • Certain doors can be jumped on top of to clip through ceilings. This has created a new skip, as well as a much faster method of skipping the Lighthouse Mission. The new skip is in the mission with the caves, right after seeing the scene where Cory "likes the fire". I'm not entirely sure how much it saves, but I think Paka could answer that.

I think that about sums it up. It's really cool to see a new runner make this game even faster than it already was. More incentive for people to try it out again. Myself included. GG's to Paka.

Right, so more stuff has been found.

Level 1: you can go out of bounds using the door glitch, you save ~2:20 on it. Watch the beginning of my run

Level 2: you won't have a flashlight so avoid the one at the beginning. Aside from skipping dialogue i found out that you don't have to kill all the slayers after going beast mode sometimes. Seems like as long as there are no slayers on the map and you're in human form the door will open and you can continue.

Level 5: Die_Mann found out you can cancel the small cutscene by damaging the two inmates or using a flashbang on them. You can also jump down with a sideroll without taking damage I found a faster way to jump on the fence next to the basketball thing using the explosives that open the gate (it's also way easier). Watch my video and practice it a little, shouldn't be too hard.

Level 17: The gap skip is easier to do if you're aiming for the rock on the left, you also don't take damage and save a little bit of time since you can jump up without the animation. From there you can take an alternative path on the right. Since jumping in first person is faster, this path is slightly faster than going through another transformation animation and hunting down a slayer. On the road there's a bunch of TNT meaning you can skip the shrapnel pickup in the next mission.

Level 18: I found out you can climb a small hill and take an alternative route which is faster and allows you to skip going beast mode. You save ~15 seconds if you do the OOB skip too.

2 new things:

  • A faster way to do the level 1 skip but also way harder: you pretty much just jump directly at the door and open it in 1st person while in the air. Saves ~8 seconds over the safer method

  • Chromenoir found an OOB trick in the 2nd part of level 4. Saves ~10 seconds on easy and ~15 seconds on insane but you lose out on 3 xombiums You have to be in the air when triggering the cutscene otherwise you won't be set back in bounds.

By attacking while falling with a knife next to a door and then spamming use you can clip through it.

You can skip half of lvl 2, killjoy's show in lvl 3, hargrave fight in lvl 4, hermes fight completely and you can enter the platform lowering area for the final boss earlier. Probably 2-3 minutes of timesave.

Here's a run with all the stuff, it's very sloppy but it's a 1 minute PB after not playing for a year:
