i am having some trouble getting livesplit to show up over the top of my game does anyone have any tips on how to get it to work

There should be an 'always on top' option in Livesplit settings.

Right click the window, go to 'Edit Layout', hit 'Layout Properties' in the bottom left, then tick the 'Always On Top' tickbox, also in the bottom left.
