This is a guide for the Historic Missions category of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Sixth Generation Platforms). The Historic Missions are bonus missions exclusive to the PSP version of the game in which you play as characters from the Star Wars saga and play through five different scenes from the Star Wars films in Force Unleashed playstyle. This guide will be updated as new strats are found.
The missions are (player character first):
Mustafar Mining Complex (Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skywalker)
Dooku's Quarters (Anakin Skywalker vs. Count Dooku, Episode III fight)
The Dune Sea (Luke Skywalker vs. Boba Fett)
The Geonosis Colosseum (Mace Windu vs. Jango Fett)
Carbonite Chamber (Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker, Episode V fight)
General Notes:
- Right off the bat the most important general note I can give about this run is that these missions are INCONSISTENT. Some are worse than others, but at the end of the day sometimes things just won't work for indeterminate reasons. Sometimes I've found the specific things that causes them to not work, sometimes I haven't, sometimes I don't think there is a 100% guarantee. The tricks that I present in this guide are replicatable, not consistent per se. They are tricks or strats that I have found work generally. Please keep this in mind when trying these or doing runs of this category.
- You will usually have to finish each phase of each boss with a QTE event, much like the story modes QTE finishers. However, unlike the story mode, the Historic Missions have the unique feature of usually triggering this QTE by standing in a particular spot when the boss is ready and pressing either L or R.
- Every Historic Mission will end with an IGT time which you must press X to exit through. Currently the leaderboard allows you to include the cumulative times of your run as a total IGT. The IGT counter seems consistent, but why the numbers are so high is beyond us; they always display as longer than your RTA. You can submit this IGT total but RTA is the preferred timing method.
Mission Order and Menuing Information
You can play the Historic Missions in any order, but you will have to take some things into account in order to play the missions in an ideal order. Since RTA is the primary timing method you will have to do some fast menuing between missions. You also have to take in to account that the Historic Missions all end with unskippable cutscenes, and some of these cutscenes are longer than others; since the timer ends when you place the final input, you want to end the run with the mission with the longest ending cutscene so that it is not included in the final time. You must also consider the difficulty of the Historic Missions and which ones are better to get out of the way early to avoid resets later in the run. This guide is organized in the order that I find the most beneficial for speed and consistency.
Menuing
The Mission Select always defaults back to Force Duel, so you first have to highlight that and change it to Historic Missions everytime, which is one input to the left. Then you select the Historic Mission you are going to do next, the default position in the menu will always be Dooku's Quarters. After selecting which Historic Mission you are going to play, you need to hover over Start, and press X. It is fastest to go up two inputs from the mission select to get to Start.
Think of the Historic Missions menu like this, bearing in mind that everytime you highlight the Historic Missions Dooku's Quarters will be the starting position:
Mustafar Complex - Carbonite Chamber - Dooku's Quarters - Dune Sea - Geonosis Colosseum
So for example to get to Carbonite Chamber you would first highlight Historic Missions, and then go left once from Dooku's Quarters. To get to Geonosis Colosseum you would first highlight Historic Missions, and then go right twice. The guides of each individual level will start with the exact menuing inputs to quickly select that mission.
Mission Order
The mission order that I recommend is starting with Mustafar Mining Complex, then Dooku's Quarters, then The Dune Sea, then The Geonosis Colosseum, and ending with Carbonite Chamber.
Mustafar Mining Complex is first because I consider it to be the hardest and most inconsistent of all the Historic Missions, it is also two level-select spaces away from the default menu position, meaning longer menuing inputs are not included in the time. The cutscene at the end of Mustafar is very short, it is not worth doing last.
Dooku's Quarters is second because I find it to be the next most inconsistent, and it has the second-longest ending cutscene; however, since we can only choose one ending cutscene to cut out from the run, it is still not worth doing last. This level is mostly inconsistent due to the cutscene between the Battle Droids mob and the Count Dooku fight sometimes randomly taking a very long time to trigger after defeating the Battle Droids. Dooku's Quarters is also not really worth doing first because it has the smallest amount of required inputs to select this mission.
The Dune Sea is third because if the strats are performed correctly its actually quite consistent, but the Boba Fett Quick Kill is still fairly difficult, so it may fail. The ending cutscene of this mission is very short, it is not worth doing last. It is only one menu-input away from Dooku's Quarters in the mission select.
The Geonosis Colosseum is fourth because there are not really any notable features to this level other than performing it fast, which is not exactly easy but it's not typically a run-killer for me personally. The ending cutscene of this mission is very short, it is not worth doing last. It is two menu-inputs away from Dooku's Quarters in the mission select.
Carbonite Chamber is last for several reasons. For starters, Carbonite Chamber has the longest ending-cutscene, so this is the one you want to cut out of the final time. It is also the easiest mission of the bunch, Luke Skywalker is the weakest opponent and you greatly outclass him. It is also only one menu-input to the left from Dooku's Quarters in the mission select, putting it on the shorter end. Even if you change up the order of the missions when you do them, I strongly recommend doing Carbonite Chamber last.
Timer begins when you press Start for the first Historic Mission you are going to do. With that, we can move on to the levels themselves.
Mustafar Mining Complex
Press Start to begin this mission and start your timer.
Anakin Skywalker (Phase 1)
As the level loads in you will have to skip the intro cutscene, skip the objective box, then perform a Saber-lock with Anakin. The Saber-lock always begins with Square, then will move to either Triangle, Circle, or X. This means that as the level loads in you can spam Circle (to skip the cutscene), then X (to skip the objective box), then Square to work on the Saber-lock in a quick succession.
Use Aerial Assault to damage Anakin, if performed well you will get him locked into a cycle of flipping and keep him vulnerable to your attacks. Aerial Assault does not obliterate Anakin's health, but it is still the most consistent means of doing damage to him. After depleting roughly a third of Anakin's health, your Aerial Assault ability will not damage Anakin and will instead push him straight backwards onto his back, or he will Repulse and send you flying away. When this happens, stop attacking Anakin and let him run towards the nearby bridge, follow him and press R to begin the QTE that will send you to the next phase of this level.
Anakin has numerous ways of interrupting your attacks, and this is one of the reasons that I recommend doing this level first. The most likely things that will happen are he will Push you, throw his Saber at you, or use Lightning on you. If he uses Lightning you will have to block until he stops, which seems to be completely RNG dependent. Any attacks Anakin does seem to also be RNG dependent, unfortunately.
If Anakin is pushed off of the ledge a brief cutscene will appear that shows him getting back up into the ring, if this happens simply press Circle to quickly skip the cutscene. Overall, it is not that detrimental for him to do this and you can mostly ignore it. However, please note that if you fall off of the ledge and out of bounds, you will die and have to restart the level, which considering this is the first level would just be a reset.
Video:
Battle Droids
After Anakin's first phase you will have to fight a mob of Battle Droids. Press Circle to skip the cutscene, then X to skip the new objective box.
Using Aerial Assault and standing in the middle of the large open area is still the best idea to clear out the Battle Droids considering they come from two different locations. One is the door right in front of you as this phase begins, and the other is around the other side of the building near where you performed the QTE on Anakin to end his first phase.
Start by using Aerial Assault to kill the first 6 Battle Droids coming out of the door right in front of you, then turn around and kill the next 4 coming out of the other entrance over the bridge. Turn around again and kill the next 4 coming out of the first door, and turn around again to kill the next 4 coming out of the side door. Turn around to the first door one last time to kill the last 4 Battle Droids exiting from that location, and then turn again to the side door to kill the final 2 Droids coming from that exit.
Video:
Anakin Skywalker (Phase 2)
After defeating the Battle Droids a cutscene will trigger, press Circle to skip it and the Anakin fight will resume. You will have to begin by holding Triangle to destroy a Push Barrier that Anakin is hiding in, the spot you spawn in is where you have to stand to charge your Push so do not move when this phase begins and hold Triangle immediately.
After breaking the door you will have to approach Anakin to get him to use his Maelstrom ability to lift the chairs and throw them at you, this is a scripted attack and Anakin cannot be harmed until he has completed it. I recommend standing in the doorway so that the chairs will not hit you when Anakin throws them.
After he has completed the chair-throw attack, continue using Aerial Assault on Anakin to damage him further. Do your best to get him into the stun-lock where he will continuously backflip as shown in the video. At some point one of your Aerial Assaults will send Anakin straight backwards onto his back, when he does this stop attacking him and let him exit the conference room. He will go and stand in the middle of the large room you started this phase in and do a Maelstrom attack, this is also scripted and once he starts trying to do this ability he has to complete it before you can damage him again. After he has done the Maelstrom you can continue using Aerial Assault to damage him.
It is possible that sometimes he will try to do two scripted Maelstrom attacks instead of one, I do not know why this is nor do I know how to consistently prevent it. During this phase, it is still possible for Anakin to perform any of the aforementioned attacks of his that can interrupt you attacking him and stall you for a lot of time.
After depleting another third of Anakin's health, this phase will automatically end when a cutscene triggers.
Video:
Anakin Skywalker (Phase 3)
Press Circle to skip the cutscene at the end of the previous phase to begin the final phase of the Anakin fight. This is probably the most broken one, as Anakin is scripted to do certain movements that depending on where he is standing he cannot do, thus the level will either not complete or take an extremely long time to do so. The most common thing that Anakin will do that causes a tremendous amount of timeloss or prevents the level from completing is being unable to run down the long bridge that you are supposed to defeat him on and instead simply falling off the side of it.
This is my most consistent strategy but please note that there are times when Anakin still misbehaves.
When the phase begins, perform one Aerial Assault attack on Anakin and then dash past him towards the large open area where you fought Anakin in Phase 1, and turn around to face him. He should be chasing you, perform Aerial Assaults and try to stun-lock him into the repeated back-flips. After he has reached low enough health one of your Aerial Assaults will send Anakin straight backwards onto his back, when he does this stop attacking him and let him he will run onto the large bridge that leads out into the lava, and you may be able to perform the QTE on him immediately or may have to wait for him to perform his scripted Maelstrom attack and Aerial Assault him once more to trigger it with the L button.
If you manage to get Anakin's health down to its minimum without him ever getting on to the bridge the QTE will also activate this way, but this typically is the result of Anakin already misbehaving and is likely happening at the back end of numerous other timelosses.
This video is a successful Phase 3:
This video includes several things that Anakin can do that can make Phase 3 not work, most notably being unable to run down the long bridge that you are supposed to defeat him on and instead simply falling off the side of it:
After the QTE to defeat Anakin watch the brief ending cutscene, and press X to skip back to mission select to move on to the next Historic Mission.
Dooku's Quarters
When the mission select loads in the menu inputs are: Left, Up, X to begin Dooku's Quarters (smallest amount of inputs necessary).
Battle Droids
Begin the level by holding forward and pressing Circle to skip the cutscene and then X twice, once to skip the objective box and the second time to jump over Dooku and Obi-Wan who are standing in front of you. For the first phase of this Mission, you will have to defeat a mob of Super Battle Droids, you can ignore Count Dooku himself during this time, and he will mostly focus on Obi-Wan anyways. There are 20 Battle Droids, and they will come out of three doorways on the upper level, one on the left side of the room, one in the center, and one on the right. Run forward when the Mission starts and use Lightning to kill the two Battle Droids at the top of the stairs, then climb to the top of the stairs. From here, watch your mini-map to see where the Battle Droids are coming out of and stay basically on the top level, and do not go too far down the stairs. From this spot, you will be able to use Lightning to kill the Battle Droids as they come out very quickly, and staying in this one area will minimize your travel distance. Note that your height matters when using Lightning to kill the Battle Droids that are on the top balconies and behind the railings, as if you are too far below them, your Lightning will not connect with them; if you are on a relatively even height with them, your Lightning will hit them.
After defeating all 20 Battle Droids it will take several seconds for the next event to trigger, which is a cutscene that you must skip by pressing Circle. The cutscene will immediately be followed by a Quick Time Event that you must complete in order to get to the next phase of the Mission. If you fail the Quick Time Event, you will have to watch a failure cutscene, and when you regain control you will have to press R to trigger the QTE once more and try again.
Video:
Count Dooku
After you complete the QTE you will have to press X to skip the new objective box.
Count Dooku is for the most part a pretty easy fight, simply use Aerial Assault to defeat him like we do with every Jedi/Sith boss in this game. The main things to note for his fight are that he needs to take a considerable amount of damage before the QTE to defeat him will become active, his health must be nearly fully depleted; another thing to note is that it is virtually impossible to not get into a Force-lock with Dooku at least once, this is basically RNG so you will just have to hope he doesn't do it to you very many times.
After you have depleted Dooku's health press L to trigger the QTE to end the Mission. This Historic Mission ends with one of the longest unskippable cutscenes, however it is still shorter than the unskippable cutscene at the end of Carbonite Chamber, so this one is the one that will have to be included in the total time one way or the other.
Video:
After the cutscene press X twice to get back to the Mission Select to start the next Historic Mission.
The Dune Sea
When the mission select loads in the menu inputs are: Left, Down, Right, Up, Up, X to begin The Dune Sea.
Jabba's Henchmen 1
Begin the level by pressing Circle to skip the cutscene and X once to skip the objective box. Be careful to press X only once as you do not want to jump as the level loads in.
When the level loads in be standing on the first platform and use Lightning to kill the 2 guards directly in front of you, then turn to the left without moving the camera and use Lightning to kill the guard on the platform that is behind you to your left. Then, double jump onto the last platform and use Lightning to clear this area.
After clearing the smaller platforms, double jump onto Jabba's Sail Barge.
Before you do anything else, it is imperative to note: On top of Jabba's Sail Barge there is a mounted gun turret on one of the railings that is pointed at the smaller platforms you just came from. Do NOT use or destroy this gun turret, you will need it to perform the Quick Kill on Boba Fett at the end of the level and it will not respawn.
When you get on top of the sail barge, use Lightning while running to the other end of the Barge to kill the enemies as you run by. You will likely have to take a pause to let your Force recharge for just a moment as you reach the final guard in the back.
Video:
Jabba's Henchmen 2
Press Circle to skip the cutscene and X to skip the objective box.
Begin this phase by moving forward and using Lightning and turning up-left to be on the left side of the pole the stands between you and the group of 3 enemies in front of you as the phase begins, this angle will allow you to hit all three at once.
After killing the 3 enemies on top of the Sail Barge, let your Force regenerate as you run to the stairs to get to the inside of the Sail Barge and use Lightning while running through the Barge to kill the enemies in this room. You will likely have to pause again to let your Force regenerate slightly, I also like to pick up the health at the far end of this room to give me a marker of when to turn around and use Lightning again.
Video:
Boba Fett Quick Kill
This is one of the most significant actual tricks in the entire Historic Missions run because it is a glitch that allows you to defeat Boba Fett in one phase rather than his intended two phases, which also allows you to skip an intended-to-be mandatory QTE that connected his two phases. Instead, we stun lock him with the turret on top of the Sail Barge and are able to perform his final QTE by getting his health low enough to do so.
The inputs for this trick are actually really precise, you have to know how the turrets work. They are a feature in the main Force Unleashed game where you can use the Force to pick up a turret which will then rapidly fire shots at the enemies. The catch however is that your "focus" is entirely on the turret, if you use any other Force abilities while the turret is active, you will lose focus on it and drop it, and it cannot be picked back up. Double-jumping counts as a Force ability.
When you pick up the turret you need to single jump onto the platform closest to you and move towards the other end of the platform to stun-lock Boba Fett, it is best to watch the video for the exact movements and inputs as I said, its actually pretty precise. If done correctly, Boba Fett will repeatedly spin out and take damage from the turret and you will be able to activate his finisher QTE with the R button.
Video:
The Geonosis Colosseum
When the mission select loads in the menu inputs are: Left, Down, Right, Right, Up, Up, X to begin The Geonosis Colosseum.
This Mission has the most overall objectives you have to complete, however most of them are not very difficult and should only take a couple of seconds.
Battle Droids 1
As the level loads in hold Forward, press Circle to skip the cutscene and X once to skip the objective box, then when you gain control you should already be running forward towards the first group of enemies that you have to kill.
The first phase of this mission requires you to kill 24 Battle Droids, who will spawn out of two doors on the bottom floor and two doors on the second floor of the arena. The best way to kill the Battle Droids is to use Lightning while running since many of them will be very spread out, and since the Battle Droids are so weak and die so quickly to Lightning, try to use your Lightning in short bursts so that your Force meter has time to regenerate before you use it again. Begin by killing the first 8 Droids that you see in front of you when the level loads, some will still be coming out of the door that you are approaching. Then, jump up and kill the 3 Battle Droids that will be on the second floor. From here, the Droids will come out at different intervals and their positions can be kind of hard to rely on consistently, so watch your mini-map closely and try to always kill the next closest Droids while alternating between going to the first and second floors.
After defeating the final Battle Droids to end the phase, immediately begin to climb towards the top of the arena.
Video:
Destroy the Jamming Device
Press X to skip the new objective box when it appears.
This objective requires you to destroy a Jamming Device located on the top (fourth) floor of the arena, which you should already be on your way up to by the time the new objective box had appeared. Climb up to the top, approach the final balcony that you have to jump onto from the side as jumping up to it from the front does not really work (Mace Windu cannot get over the spikes at the very front). Then turn inside of the hallway, dash forward once, and use Lightning to kill the 3 Battle Droids in the room where the Jamming Device is located.
The Jamming Device is specifically the blue panel amidst all of the yellow ones. Approach the Jamming Device from the left side of the table in the middle of the room, point yourself at the Jamming Device and use a Saber Throw to destroy it from a distance.
After destroying the Jamming Device you do not have to move, as the start of the next phase will reset your position.
Video:
Battle Droids 2
Press Circle to skip the cutscene and press X to skip the new objective box that appears.
Before you do anything else, it is imperative to note: The Clone Troopers that have just arrived will help you fight the Droids, one of them has a mounted gun turret. Do NOT use this gun turret or destroy it, you will need to use it for the final phase of the Jango Fett fight at the end of the level and it will not respawn.
This next group of Battle Droids is smaller and easier to defeat than the previous one, composed of only 9 Battle Droids. After skipping the objective box jump forward and dash to the right to land on the first floor of the arena, where 7 of the Battle Droids are congregated fairly close together. Use Lightning to kill all of the Droids on the first floor, going from right to left from your starting positions perspective, and then turn around and jump up on the second floor balcony and use Lightning to kill the final two Battle Droids.
After defeating the last ones, immediately turn into the small doorways that are opening up on the second floor when you've defeated the last Droid (see video) in preparation for the next phase.
Video:
Save Aayla Secura
This part is really fast, it only takes a couple of seconds, but there are still some things to note about it.
Press X to skip the new objective box when it appears, you should already be running towards where Aayla Secura is being held captive after you defeated the final Battle Droid in the previous phase (see video for location).
When you fall down into the room, use Lightning to kill the Battle Droids in the room. To free Aayla Secura you will have to stand in a particular spot and press and hold Triangle (a la a Push Barrier from the main game) to charge a Force Maelstrom. However, you must be standing in a very particular spot to get the Triangle to appear on screen. After falling into the room you should try to move as little as possible other than turning to kill the Droids, because the position you will land in is right about where you have to stand to charge the Maelstrom. Also note that killing the Battle Droids is not optional, as the Triangle will not appear until they are dead.
After freeing Aayla Secura, press Circle to skip the cutscene and you will be teleported back outside for the Jango Fett fight.
Video:
Jango Fett (Phase 1)
Press X to skip the new objective box after skipping the cutscene after freeing Aayla Secura.
Begin this fight by running forward towards Jango Fett, do not Dash as you do not want to get too close to him. See the video for a good example of where you want to be standing. Then, Force Grab Jango Fett and begin choking him. Be very careful not to accidentally grab the mounted gun turret. After about a quarter of his health has been depleted, he will stop taking damage; as soon as he stops taking damage, let him go and he will go stand in the spot he needs to stand in for you to perform the first QTE on him. Press R to activate the QTE and perform it to move on to the next phase.
Video:
Jango Fett (Phase 2)
After completing the first QTE, when you gain control of Mace Windu you want to run Forward-Left and Dash towards the gun turret that appeared earlier in the level, Force Grab it and turn around to face Jango Fett. You may have to adjust your position slightly to get the turret to focus on him, but once it does it should lower his health in no time at all. Eventually, when his health is very low, he will stop taking damage; if the turret is still shooting at him when this happens, you need to perform any Force ability so that you drop the turret and Jango will be free to move to the spot that he has to be in for you to perform the final QTE on Jango and end the level, I suggest a quick burst of Force Lightning. When he gets to the proper location, press R to start the QTE.
After defeating Jango watch the brief unskippable cutscene and then press X twice to get back to the main menu.
Video:
Carbonite Chamber
When the mission select loads in the menu inputs are: Left, Down, Left, Up, Up, X to begin Carbonite Chamber.
See video at the end for the video guide of this entire level.
This is the easiest Historic Mission, as Luke Skywalker is the weakest opponent and you greatly outclass him. It also has the longest ending cutscene, which is why it is done last.
Luke Skywalker (Phase 1)
As the level loads in press Circle to skip the cutscene and press X once to skip the objective box, after skipping the objective box you can press X again to jump into the air before the level actually loads in, then Triangle to hit Luke with an Aerial Assault to open the level.
This Phase can be ended in 2-3 Aerial Assaults. Press L to activate the QTE to move to the next phase when it appears.
Luke Skywalker (Phase 2)
Press Circle to skip the cutscene and begin Phase 2. Dash ahead to the door of the hallway that just opened up and go through the tunnel, stop dashing around halfway through the tunnel to allow your Force to regenerate slightly. Turn left and dash once to get closer to Luke and then use Aerial Assault on him 2-3 times to activate the next QTE by pressing R.
Luke Skywalker (Phase 3)
Press Circle to skip the cutscene and begin Phase 3. Run down to the platform directly below you and Dash to the left towards Luke, turn around the corner and turn left, then perform Aerial Assaults into the hallway that Luke is standing in to damage him without having to wait for the camera to turn around. After 2-3 Aerial Assaults you will be able to perform the final QTE by activating it with L to end the run.
Video of entire level:
Timer ends when you press the final input to complete the final QTE of the final Historic Mission you complete.
CONCLUSION
Congratulations! Thats the entire Historic Missions run, a little complicated and very inconsistent but thankfully very short and quick to complete. I hope you found this guide helpful.
