Edit: Please be aware that Key% has been archived due to no activity. It will be unarchived when a run of that category is submitted. If you want to submit such a run, just submit your run to a different category and add a comment like "Submitted as Any%. Please unarchive low% and put the run there." so that the Leaderboard Mods know what to do.
This guide provides and explains a route for the misc. category "Key%". By following this route, the game can be beaten with 14 remaining keys.

Route
Ferryman Skip
Don't pick up Ferryman's Key just yet. You don't want to have any keys when you perform the first gate skip in Forgotten Keep as it would make things much more difficult.
Instead, you want to make your way past the river right away. There are different approaches to this:

Potless (easy, slower)
Potless (hard, faster)
You should have 0 keys now.
Forgotten Keep: 1st Gate Skip
You should have 0 keys now.
Forgotten Keep: Collect 2nd Key
You should have 1 key now.
Forgotten Keep: Open 2nd Gate
You should have 0 keys now.
Forgotten Keep: Collect 3rd Key
You should have 1 key now.
Forgotten Keep: 3rd Gate Skip
You should have 1 key now.
Chamber of the Mageblade: Collect Key
You should have 2 keys now.
Chamber of the Mageblade: Gate Skip
You should have 2 keys now.
Collect Ferryman's Key
You should have 3 keys now.
Collect Krymil's Key
You should have 4 keys now.
Collect Guards Key
You should have 5 keys now.
Open Sewers Gate
It's the gate that leads to the sewers.

It's the gate that leads to the Western Guard Tower.

Fiery Depths: Collect 1st Key

Right after collecting the key, go back to the first portal in the Great Caves.

World's End Keep: Collect the first two keys and open the first two gates

The last gate is the one that leads to The Lair of Death. You can beat the game now.
