Quick Start Guide

The game is available on GOG and Steam.  The GOG version should work without any tinkering, I have not tested the Steam version but assume it works similarly. The PlayStation version has reworked levels and controls, as well as higher quality visuals in some places.

Starting the game brings up a launcher in DOSBox, and runs done on this version are MS-DOS Emu.  Modifying a couple things here makes the game run faster and easier.

1. Game speed is variable based on frame rate, and the launcher allows framerate to be adjusted on a slider between 10-20 fps.  15 is the intended framerate, so setting it to 20 makes the game run 33% faster.  This can be adjusted by clicking Setup, Advanced Settings, Framerate.

2. The game comes with four premade difficulties - Beginner, Novice, Standard, and Expert - and two Custom difficulty options - Custom1 and Custom2.  Because some control settings have been adapted poorly, some levels where you pilot a freely moving ship are extremely difficult bordering on unfair to complete.  For this reason, and because it is a native game feature, custom difficulties can be used for runs.  In the Launcher click Difficulty Editor, then click Custom1 or Custom2, then Copy.  Copy one of the four premade difficulties to your Custom difficulty.  You are allowed to set the Dodge Damage value for the free piloting levels (3, 7, 10) to 0.  This will result in hitting walls during these sections doing zero damage to you, though you can still take damage from all other sources.  These are the only values that can be modified and creation of the Custom difficulty used must be shown in any submission.
