Getting All Apples while playing on Fast (AKA Rabbit)

We got 2 new crazy updates pretty much right next to each other, with plenty of game modes that are viable to actually finish, but the biggest change is the fact you can pick your speed for any game mode you choose to play.        

This means every existing game mode has a "fast"/"rabbit" version to it. Getting all apples is usually enough of a challenge by itself, but doing it while the snake is fast and you're likely to make mistakes - is just THAT much harder. Any mistake is costly, where one single mistake can end the run instantly with a death.    
   
So the way I run fast mode when going for all apples is by using the coined "low coil risk" strategy, during the end game.   
It's quite simple, I alternate being going vertically and horizontally and "split" the board into 4 sections.
Sections length vary according to what I feel like, but they are between 5-9 blocks long.    
"Coiling" with 3 or 2 is considered very risky in my opinion and this strategy avoids that.  
The "free spot" in my strategy remains in the middle usually, if the apple spawns there (worst case) it's not that hard to get it safely, which is another bonus. In multi mode, you could just leave it there and eat the other two in hopes of reaching it by the end.

The reason I do this strategy isn't because I'm incapable of coiling risky and get it done, but rather because I don't want to lose runs to making that kind of mistake. If you want to complete an all apples fast run - getting as many attempts in as you can is a good idea. If you spend 10 minutes just to die on a risky coil, it's quite frustrating.       

This is why I recommend my strategy, it's very easy to pull off and if you make a mistake such as turning too early, it'll likely be fixed by your next loop around the board. The other thing about risky coils is that they require more focus and work, so my strategy is just that much easier.

1. Search "snake game" in google - or go to resources tab and click the direct link
2. After you die, click on the trophy to switch game modes.
3. Bonus: on game over screen, click on the snake to change it's color, or on the apple to change the fruit/vegetable the snake will eat in the game.

In-depth Portal Mode Guide (Out-dated)

So, you noticed that the "All Apples" category in Portal mode is empty, and now you started to think "maybe I'll be the first to take that spot, free WR."

Well, here's a guide to tell you all the known rules of Portal mode. 
Unlike in every other snake mode, in order to complete the board and fill every space with a snake, you DON'T have to complete what's known as a Hamiltonian circuit/path. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamiltonian_path    
But you do need to get really close to completing one.

Perhaps you should just brainlessly coil and fill the gaps while playing safe?
Actually - yes, with an extra rule - eating apples is dangerous.
In case you haven't even played yet, in Portal mode there are 2 apples, eating one will make the snake come out of the other. This will only count as eating 1 apple.
In portal mode the snake is also slower, I don't know the exact number of how much slower it is, but I do believe it's faster than slow mode, so between 66%-100% of classic speed. 

The speed should make it easier to react in time to close apples that will portal you all the way across the board.
Update: This has been changed, now the snake speed is your choice like in all other mode combinations.

Next thing you should know is apple spawning logic - although 100% random, isn't the same as you're used to. Also, end game logic is a little different too.
1. An apple will never spawn in a radius around the snake - 2 block from the head. Apples spawn right when you eat one, so after you portal to the other apple, you can know for sure the marked spaces (in the image) are gonna be without apples. This also slows down the speed running aspect of the game for obvious reasons - you'll never have 2 apples one right after another.

2. When you reach the other side of the portal, you may turn 180 degrees. This is very useful, since you don't need to mind the direction of the snake when going into an apple, as you may change it when coming out of one. Use this to your advantage.
3. The game ends when apples can't spawn anymore, like in every "all apples" category. In case you forget, apples can't spawn in a radius around your head - this means the game will finish before the board is completed. Side note: A score of 252 can't be reached, the game will end earlier.
4. If an apple has only 1 possible spawning position, because all the other spaces are in the radius around your head or are the snake itself, the game will finish. Both apples must be able to spawn in order for the game to keep going.

The main problem with Portal All Apples is pockets and apples that spawn in and out of them as they like, so the strategy reaching late game is to avoid eating the apples (that's right), and clear out the pockets as best as you can. Of course, this becomes much harder later on, where you barely have spaces to move.

It's also a good strategy to leave "escape routes" whenever you can, 2 spaces wide if possible. When reaching extra late game, 200+, you probably won't have that luxury, and an apple might spawn in front of you in an unavoidable position, this is when not having pockets will save your life. Either way, so far no one has reached that point, so I can't really tell you what to expect. As of writing this, my top score is 171. Here's an image from another run though, to give you a look at how late game looks like:

As you may be able to tell, I've been taking my time eating the apples, due to the risk involved. Most of the space is open and my tail is reachable, which is how you reliably survive.

The end game (225+) depends heavily on RNG, it's easy to imagine end game RNG that will end the run without giving you a possibility for victory. So good luck out there :)

In-depth Wall Mode Guide

So, you noticed that the "All Apples" category in Wall mode is empty, and now you started to think "maybe I'll be the first to take that spot, free mainboard WR."

Well, here's a guide to tell you all the known rules of Wall mode.   
First things first, in order to complete the board and fill every space with a snake, you must complete what's known as a Hamiltonian circuit/path. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamiltonian_path    
   
Unlike every most other modes, where you can just brainlessly coil and fill the gaps while playing safe, wall mode puts obstacles in your way.      

Every odd number of apples, a wall will spawn - if the spawn logic allows it.
What's the spawn logic? Well, a wall can't spawn in the following situations:

The closest it will spawn is considered "avoidable", although it could catch you off guard.
2. Right next to another wall that isn't the board borders - you can't have 2 walls right next to each other
3. In a way that makes the borders into a death trap - generally, if an apple spawns in a corner or next to the border, the closest walls to it will always allow the snake to get in and out safely as long as you play right.
4. On top of the snake/wall/apple (aka "an occupied" tile)

These are all the rules for wall mode. Strategies?
Assuming the goal is All Apples (lower categories are just "book it", maybe expect for wall 100)
You should play as safely as possible and attempt to fill up the board in a way that leaves 0 pockets and a path to the tail for yourself. This is pretty difficult as it is.

But even if you manage to do that perfectly, you could still run into a pattern of walls that make the ham-path impossible. In fact - most of your attempts will die to this. There's nothing that can be done about that as of now, besides resetting and hoping for a pattern that allows the ham-path - those patterns are known to exists.
Another strategy is to place the snake body while you eat the apples in such a way that will not allow wall spawn to destroy you ham-path. Pulling this is seriously difficult, since you have to focus on surviving and the snake never stops moving, but it's still possible, I'd even suggest this is probably mandatory, because if you don't do this, walls are likely to spawn in bad positions killing the pattern and your run.
And that being said, it only takes a few really bad walls to kill the run.

If you ask me, as long as RNG is this likely to just kill your run without even giving you as much as a chance, going for wall mode all apples normal size is a fool's errand.

Wall all small board is possible and has been achieved on 1 apple and on 5 apples, but it does take a lot of grinding and luck.

Playing Classic/Fast/Multi/Wall

To keep things short, the optimal strategy is the shortest path to any apple. If you have fast enough reaction you can turn in time, but if you don't, just go for the middle of the board and turn to the apple as soon you are able to react. In fast mode reacting in time is even harder, so you should practice and keep trying.
This is true for any non-wall mode up to 50 apples.

As for Wall, you should actually prioritize surviving and path finding, as the shortest path to an apple is very likely to be an avoidable death trap. I'd go with this from wall 50, and for any mode 100 or above category.

If you run into a death trap in wall mode that is unavoidable, please join the discord and post it, as it would be considered a bug and should be fixed. An example of one would be where you have to die to get the apple, no matter what, this shouldn't happen.

Playing Peaceful

Unlike all other game modes, in Peaceful mode you can't die.
The board is 15x17, this means the worst case apple is max 16 blocks away, where you have to run half the board for "up-down" as well as "left-right". Imagine as if you are in the middle at all times, the shortest path to any apple will be 16 blocks (max) or less.
16 blocks take around 2.435 seconds.
     
As for how apples spawn, they can only spawn where the snake isn't filling up the block. They spawn 100% random, as confirmed by the developer (CLTincknell). In peaceful however there's something extra, when you reach high numbers, for some reason, apples tend to spawn less in the right side of the board - looking at all the 252 runs you can see this happen across all of them. Where even if there's 2-4 empty columns in the right ready for an apple to spawn there after you eat one, it never does. CLTincknell says that apple spawning logic in all modes is uniformly random - so this may be a bug.
Update: turns out this was a bug, and it's now fixed, as CLTincknell said: "The logic for finding an unoccupied cell for the new apple wasn't taking Pacifist into account and was assuming that the snake was occupying a unique cell for each of it's body segments"
   
Regardless, the optimal strategy for any Peaceful category of apples is to aim for the shortest path to any new apple. 
Another helpful tip is after you eat an apple, if possible, go for an empty space where another one might spawn. When you are about to go over yourself - that's a block where an apple won't spawn and going over it will cost time, this is especially helpful in high apple categories, as empty blocks become less available, aiming for them preemptively will save time.

Portal 5 Apples Small

When you start Portal on 3 or 5 apples, each piece of fruit takes you to its matching pair when eaten.  Portal 5 apples small is chaos if you've ever played it before. There is a sneaky way that I like to begin whenever I play it though. At the start of the run, go behind the row of four fruits on either the top or bottom row and run right through all of them. It is a satisfying and easy way to start. Then, try and go for only one type of fruit/portal at a time and keep in mind that you may run into another portal as soon as you exit one so try and plan ahead before you accidentally run into a wall or another portal.

Wall Mode Guide to 100 Apples!

I personally have gone on the journey just like Yarmi and TheDeer have to get 100 apples in the hardest mode in the game. And I have succeeded. In this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e69ks_a2Mv0&ab_channel=ImSchnippi) I got 109 apples, so I feel like more people should know how to get a  very high score on wall mode, so this is my simple guide on how to achieve the infamous Wall 100 apples.

Basics

1. Coiling: Coiling is the most essential part to any high score run in Google Snake. If you do not know what this is, it is the intentional filling up of as much space on the board as possible. With wall mode it is much harder, so your coiling method can't be the same across every run. If you would like to learn how to coil, watch any Wall 100 run and attempt to replicate that as close as you can with the pattern you are given. (it will definitely not be the same.)

2. Knowing When to Coil: Knowing when to coil in your wall run is just about as important as the coiling itself, because if you completely optimize it when you're at around 60 apples, you will have many more opportunities to die than if you play more conservative and start optimizing at 90.  So instead of filling up every row too soon with your pattern, start gradually getting to that point of optimization. Plus, optimizing coiling from the very start makes your run very slow and boring making you more angry.

3. Don't rush apples: If you see an apple that looks obtainable but you're not sure, always assume that it will kill you. This sounds like a braindead conclusion to make, but it has helped me in my runs a lot. Sure, it makes my runs much slower, but it makes them safer.

Tips and Tricks

1. Coil horizontally, personally this makes it a lot easier than coiling vertically, and multiple people agree with this.

2. Don't give up and die if you get a bad wall pattern, a difficulty can be turned into an opportunity.

3. Past 100, fill up every row you can with your body. Past 110, start filling up every single space you can.

4. You have one life, play it safely.

5. Don't have big goals, make your next goals small steps, such as getting your highscore from 60 to 65+.

6. Don't give up on this. Wall 100 is extremely difficult, but if you believe you are skilled enough to do it, you better do it.

7. Practice on wall small, it really helps with your coiling.
