I just want to know why most top level 70 star runners play on the us version of the game and not the japanese version. The japanese version saves like 7-8 seconds in the opening cutscene over the us version.

Other factors in the run make US version faster for 70 star.

and the opening cutscene isn't ~7-8s fatser on JAP, but about 4-5s

to answer your question fully and simply, the opening text box is a couple of seconds faster, and jolly roger bay has a star in it you shoot from a cannon and in the Japanese version the star is out in the open, in the US it is in a box requiring more of a precise cannon shot and two jumps one to open the box one to grab the star, whereas again Japanese is just cannon shot into the star. its like around the mountain corner thing so yeah. those two reasons are the main thinking behind running Japanese as apposed to US. Also generally speaking, Japanese letters/characters whatever they're called generally take less of than that of their English counterpart. essentially Japanese text 9/10 times will be quicker so games with lots of text box want to be ran on the Japanese version.
