Boss Knife Notes

Formatting is incorrect because this chart is a direct copypaste from Biohazard TA Wiki.

This may not be 100% accurate in some areas due to possible critical hits in places or maybe even a miscount on my part but it will do as a general ballpark figure at the very least.

One important thing to note about the bosses in REmake is that difficulty does not give them a larger HP value, they have the same amount on all difficulties.

This is what I've found during my test runs (TheMixedHerb). Note that Jill generally has a harder time knifing than Chris does, this is because Chris:

Runs faster meaning more effective dodging
Swings his knife faster
Has a wider range with the knife
Deals more damage with the knife
Is able to take more damage
The up side for both characters is that having the knife equipped is the same as having no weapon equipped, which gives you a significant running speed boost.

Crimson Head Elder
The safest method is to down slash, the fastest method is to upward slash though you will take damage, mid slash is pointless. Defence Items could help immensely if you take the riskier option.

Chris could end this fight a lot sooner with the help of a Flash Grenade, if you go for upper slashes he will most certainly grab you at some point.
It's actually preferred that he grabs you if you go for the aforementioned option as it keeps him directly in front of you, just make sure you step forward once or twice so you don't miss and take the damage for nothing.

Upward slashes are really all that'll hit it, Jill has a much tougher time taking this down than Chris does. 42 is probably the most difficult boss to knife due to the sheer awkwardness of it and the fact that getting no damage is no easy feat with just the knife.

Yawn
Up slashes require you to be very close and Yawn's top half must be raised, it's pointless to go for them. Downward slashes are the way to go and you can still get critical hits with them due to Yawn's head being low.

If you run forward a bit right at the start before heading down the ladder you can get two free hits in, at least one of which is a guaranteed critical since you're right in front of its head.

I'm not sure why mid slashes take more for Yawn, my best guess would be that downward slashes have a higher chance of hitting the face (which is what auto aim goes for) since they have the longest range of the three. In effect, a higher critical rate.


Tyrant
Run past him, downward swings, whenever he turns, you go around his back, repeat. It generally doesn't matter which side you run past him as long as you get around him before he can react. Jill may have a tougher time getting around him fast enough due to her slower swings.

Character HP and Healing

Here is the detail of how health and poison works, and how much Health points (HP) healing items give you back. Every 25%, your Status ("Fine", "Danger", etc.) changes; below are the literal values for each character.

Poison is a status that prevents you from seeing your health, and that removes HP every so often. It is cured through the use of a blue herb. The game usually removes 1 HP from your current health every ~30 frames or so, which means that, if you have full health with Jill, and as the game runs at 30 frames per second, it will take around 16 minutes to die from it. Note that poison isn't ticking if the game is in a pause mode (during cutscene, inventory, map, loadings, etc.).

Healing items :

Green Herb : heals 25% of your health.
Green Herb x2 : heals 80% of your health.
If this formula is true when you heal, it will only heal 60%.

[current_HP + 80%_max_HP > 100%_max_HP]
Example : Chris has 322 HP (23% total). He uses a Mixed Herb (G+G) : 23% + 80% = 103%. As his health can't be above 100%, the game gives him 60% instead, which will bring him to 83% total (1162 HP).

Green Herb + Red Herb or Green Herb x3 : heals 100% of your health.

Door Skip for REmake Wii (Emulator)

This is a Gecko Code add Door Skip for REmake on the Wii (Emulator only). This was made specifically for the Japanese Wii version of the Game, so it probably won't work without at least updating the offsets for the other regions and/or GC version.

Fast Disk needs to be enabled for this to be worth it, otherwise loading times will be almost as long as they are with the doors enabled (Game Config in Dolphin -> Emulate Disc Speed turnt off).

This video showcases a strat that I found initially on accident, getting Yawn stuck. It's tough to set up, but it's safer if pulled off properly and allows you to not have to move at all to get slashes on him, which saves time and heal items. 2 ways to get him stuck are in this video, one being safer, but harder to do, and the other one, which is riskier, but easier as it's more likely he will get stuck.

Item quantityEdit
Item slots (in the inventory and the item box) are listed in the inventory on 4 bytes (in hexadecimal of course). For example :

00 08 00 05 describes "Item n°00 08, Quantity = 5". So in this example, it's a Grenade Launcher with 5 acid rounds.

Key items have a specific quantity, corresponding to how many doors it will open, for example. Shield Key would have a quantity of 1, because there's only one door to open. The game then checks if the quantity is equal to 0, and if true, asks the player if he wants to discard it, knowing that there's no use in keeping it. 

The flamethrower is special too, since it uses a percentage to describe its quantity. 100% corresponds to 240 for the quantity value. If you actually put more, the percentage go up, to a value of 65535, which is shown as "_06%".

Infinite weapons need at least one bullet loaded for them to work properly.

Further notesEdit
The item n°256 is pretty weird : it is supposed to be 0 (since the value wraps up to 0, an octet being defined from 0 to 255), so "Empty spot", but it has a weird texture. 257 (which would correspond to 1) leads to the Survival Knife (Jill), as it is supposed to.

Values between 138 to 255 may contain interesting stuff, but it has not been tried, since the game always crash, and restarting Dolphin + the memory viewer is kind of a pain, ~120 times in a row.

I wrote this mostly for Jill Any% PC 120fps, but a lot of the intro content is generally applicable and may be helpful to anyone picking up running the game, regardless of category.

The end is a detailed step-by-step of the Jill Any% route, including advanced and safe strats where available.

I put this on GitHub so that anyone may fork and make edits as strats change.

Safe strat for East Wing Hunters (Normal only)

This is honestly the most consistent method I could find. You basically run until the first camera transition and wait for the hunter up top to move in position to drop down. Use its footsteps and roar as audio cues. The roar indicates it's about to jump which you should be moving at this point.

Just showcasing the consistency of the waiting method and trying to get the other two RNG outcomes where you can run straight up without issues. It only happens twice in this video, but the way I'm able to know what hunter behavior I'll be getting is based on the noise it makes when I enter the room.

You'll hear it roar then begin to run (or even just start running) as soon as the room loads which means you have to stall for a bit. There are rare instances where you'll hear the roar, but the movement is delayed (2:16), or the hunter will perform the instakill attack (1:46). It will take time to be able to identify all these different behavioral patterns, but I find it's much more common for the hunter to rush towards you as opposed to giving you a free pass up the stairs.

So, I would advise to pay close attention to the sound of the hunter up top since he's the main threat.

This is a series of videos to help speedrun this game in the most optimized way that was found so far.

A lot of those tricks were discovered way back when by Trevor Seguin (see other guides for his segmented speedrun on the GC which is still very relevant to this day).

Using the Auto-Splitter

See Resources for the script and splits download links. Note that the auto splitter is only usable with the PC version of the game.

1. In LiveSplit, right-click and select Edit Layout
2. Add a "Scriptable Auto Splitter", if not yet present
3. Click "Layout Settings" and go to the auto splitter tab
4. Browse and add the downloaded script, which should populate the split options
5. Configure for your category, and whether you would like door splits
6. Close and right-click on LiveSplit again, hovering over "Compare Against", and select "Game Time"
7. Save layout, then configure your splits

Split names may be freely customized, but you need the appropriate number of splits to match your script configuration. If using door splits, it's best to start with a splits file (.lss) that already has splits for all the doors in your category, because there are over 200. A splits file for Jill Any% is available from the Resources section.

(If you would like to provide a base door splits file for a different category, let me know and I'll add it.)

Known Issues:
The auto splitter will start the timer when launching the game to the main menu. It will also split twice when quitting out of a run while the timer is running. This is not something that is easily fixed (CursedToast has made valiant attempts) and is due to how the game detects "rooms". But it's fairly easy to work around.

For the main menu, simply reset your timer when it starts. And for quitting, stop/reset your timer before quitting out, or undo the erroneous splits if you forget. Both can be accomplished quickly in LiveSplit with the Global Hot Keys.
