Tip with wolves: Run straight towards the wolves immediately after dropping John to clean the first pack with 3 shots from the sawed-off (Quickly lay down two then back track while reloading and shoot the last before it gets close) before hopping on to your horse.

For the horse ride sequence keep the two preliminary wolves alive until a third wolf from the left/right spawn leaving you with only 3 wolves total for the horse ride sequence, and no reloading since you can run over one of the two preliminary wolves with your horse: so only 2 bucks needed, saving a reload, better chance for gold% ??
