I was going for any world record. I expected a microscopic improvement to the 5:06, and I would've been overjoyed with that. The first run to beat the 5:06 absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. Everything just...went quite well.
This record includes a new strategy for Thor - lowering the Gravity long enough to barely be able to rush Thor into the pit, during which it's still up to him to jump in the right direction.
Things were NOT perfect, of course. I messed up the Moose fight by facing him and activating Skaterz, losing more than one second. I didn't get the fast Blade dialogue, losing about 1.5. I didn't get weak gangs in Ivan's room and the top floor, requiring Slick Trick strats, losing unknown time compared to good Nitro Port fights. The top floor Plague fight was a little shaky, including a rogue Doug. The Twins fight was decent, but they still threw some wrenches. I also played the gym jump EXTREMELY safe, losing almost half a second there. That's the thing I'm kicking myself about most, as this run missed breaking an additional second barrier by three frames.
But there's very little I should be disappointed about, honestly. With current knowledge, this is an extraordinarily strong run. More might be possible with other options changes...and who knows what magic must be enacted in order to intentionally perform the glitch kill on Slick. That's the biggest known, yet mythical, timesave remaining. I suppose no matter what, this may stand the test of time as a great glitchless run!
My first RCREX world record in 2.5 years ended up being one of my best so far. I'm very happy.
