A lot of runs, especially in the classic hoverboard section are missing retimes. The retimes just vanished. Anyone know why?
the run from thepolishspeedrunner was retimed from 1.480 to 1.433, if you finished a run with like 1.45 you cant know if you beat it or not since you would need a retime. idk if this is the reason, but it could be.
I am figuring out solutions to try and make the boards as fair as possible, and one of those solutions is to use the in game timer for the top times of a category.
I first did this for Classic Hoverboard and deleted the mod notes so I could visibly see what ones I had already changed, which was a mistake as afterwards I decided it would be best to leave the mod notes in while doing Pyramid Hoverboard.
Only downside to using in game timer for top times is that if you end up with a slower time than your personal best, it will be forced to a retime which will ultimately be 2+ frames slower or worse if you have a bad set up.
Another solution I have thought of is to just use the last frame that the in game timer is shown, which will be great for some people and unfair for others as some people have their timer remaining for 1-2 frames sticking to the same time.
Personally, I think retimes are for the best as they keep everything sorted out in case the ingame timer glitches, or just because the ingame timer is highly unreliable for me.
The way I retime runs is
Start frame - First frame the game timer is shown.
End frame - First or second frame the robloxian touches the end square.
I think you all were doing this thing before too, and i feel like this is the most fair.
Retimes are especially helpful if (as you said) the time is slower than pb, or if someone is doing a run without reseting the timer.
At this point in time, the Atlantis and Sled Race timers are actually accurate, and assuming the video isn't missing frames or is jumping around way too much (often a side effect of the built in roblox recorder). So I feel like realistically those could just use in-game time.
Alternatively it could be an option to add the in-game time as a secondary timer that shows since that is an option on this site as well.
