1.2.0 Rule Updates, 1.2.0 Submissions Open, and Mod Approvals

Hello Speedrunners!

After much community feedback, we have been working hard, and finished tailoring all the rule changes and testing mods for re-addition to the Approved Mod List. The following rules (unless noted) will be going into effect immediately. **Starting now, patch 1.2.0 submissions will be accepted and verified. **

  • Crane Usage: Keyboard/Mouse players may use Keyboard and/or Mouse input as desired. Controller players may use controller input or the newly approved "Controller Mouse Crane" Steam Workshop Mod by IcedMilo to allow Mouse usage while using controller.

  • Seed Visibility: Submissions must include the host player inputting the seed, if using a manually input seed unless using Speedrun Mods Checker. Speedrun Mods Checker has been updated to display seed information inside the restaurant.

  • In Game Timer: In-Game Timer will soon be required to be enabled and visible throughout runs. This is to help verifiers prove runs validity, and provide groundwork for console integration to the leaderboard. This will go into effect on the next patch.

  • Glitch/Technique Section: A new section to the rules has been added to clarify some known/allowed glitches, and disallowed glitches that are to be fixed in upcoming patches.

  • Blueprint Duplication: If Blueprints are duplicated; Random Seed - The bottom/second blueprint and its rerolls must be ignored. **Set Seed **- May purchase one of the duplicated blueprints, may **not **reroll that day.

  • Cake Bowl and Mandarin Orange Glitches are disallowed currently because of likely fixes coming in future patches.

  • Day One Resets are no longer allowed. If a restaurant does not complete Day 1 for any reason, it may not be restarted and/or replayed. The restaurant must be abandoned and a new restaurant created.

  • Player Input Clarifications: Wording has been added to clarify that additional player characters may not be spawned in at any time, and that the number of unique players may not exceed the Submission Category (1 for Solo, 2 for Duo, 3 for Trio, 4 for Quad).

Advanced Build Mode/Crane Speedrun Community Votes:

After further discussions, 2 new options and clarifications on 1 of the previous options have been added. After a 72 hour voting period the polls will be closed and the rules will be instated.

  • No Mouse Crane Usage/Enter and Exit crane mode if accidental movement.

Bridges the gap considerably, allows for mistakes to not completely invalidate run, would require detailed knowledge of rules which could be daunting for newcomers. Penalizes accidental mouse input. A mod will likely be made available to avoid accidental mouse movement.

  • Add a variable to the leaderboard denoting mouse users and crane usage. Does not split the leaderboard, but just adds a variable visible from the main page.

(The Snowflower Protocol) - Does not impact game, denotes which control scheme is used. Easily understood.

  • No change.

Mouse advantage stays, easily understood rule. More welcoming to new users.

  • Mod allowing controller player to have crane mouse access (Details to come).

This would be the only mod providing a competitive advantage that would be considered for approval for use in Speedrunning. Mod would give controller users an advantage over Vanilla controller users. Allows Controller players to use Mouse to control crane, levels the playing field between Keyboard/Mouse players and Controller..

  • Disallow Crane entirely.

*Disables a base feature of the game, which is not commonplace for Speedrun.com/Speedrunning. Difficult not using base feature for new runners. *

Patch 1.2.0 Update, Possible Board Split, and State of Mods

With the release of the latest patch (1.2.0), many gameplay features have been added that have brought up discussion of the necessity of board split in the Official PlateUp! Discord (https://discord.gg/plateup). Please feel free to share your opinions and thoughts in the Speedrun-Discussion channel and help us continue to shape speed running the way you would like it to be!

Poll on a Possible Board Split

On Monday, August 12th (36 hours from this post), there will be a vote to determine whether or not to split the board, creating a new leaderboard for the current patch. The vote will be up for 48 hours, at which point the Speedrun Team will implement any changes needed.

State of Mods in Speedrunning

During this time, for your runs to be approved, your submission must show input of any seed (Due to the patch now not showing seed information in restaurant), your in-game settings denoting "Seed Affects Everything" or "Seed Affects Layout Only" (As usual, if running without mods), and adhere to all current rules listed.

Any mod usage during this time will continue to require use of Speedrun Mod Checker. The Speedrun Team will be re-evaluating and assessing all previously allowed mods, as the patch's code changes has required all mods to be updated. After thorough testing is complete for each mod, they will be added to the approved mod list. Until mods have been added to the approved mod list, they will not be allowed in speedruns. We understand that folks are anxious to use the mods that they have previously enjoyed and we are working to get through them as quickly as we can.

Mods will be available to use as soon as they are thoroughly tested and approved. We will make another announcement listing approved mods, after a large selection of mods have been tested and approved for submissions. Speedrun Mod Checker has already been approved, and includes a visual difference denoting it's updated status, all 1.2.0 submissions without the current version of Speedrun Mod Checker will not be accepted. Also, please understand that there is a possibility that previously approved mods may not be approved after testing and will not return to the approved mod checklist.

Rule Changes for May 1st

A few minor rule changes and clarifications from the previous rules, but important ones. And a newly approved mod, now available for speedrunning.

The rule changes will go into effect May 1st, and all runs submitted on or after that date will be verified accordingly.

First update: Mod Requirement

The most important change to those that run mods. Previously, use of Speedrun Mod Checker was suggested as it greatly helps verifiers and runners ensure only approved mods were used, it is now required to be used if any mods are installed.

If any mods are used, it is required that you include “Speedrun Mod Checker” for ease of verification, and to not be required to show settings before each run: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3007986429

Second update: Map Settings

Clarification added to unapproved Map Themes, and an image with examples of approved layouts has been included.

Settings are split into variables on the board. Currently acceptable Map Settings are: Normal (City, Country, Alpine), Autumn, Turbo, Lake, North Pole. All settings not listed are not valid for speedrunning.

Approved Mods (Steam Only)

New Mod: Permanent Visit

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3146132932

One of the most requested mods, Permanent Visit stores viewer visits when re-entering restaurants. This mod has been approved for use immediately, and has been added to the "Speedrun.com Approved Mod" collection.

Updated Mod: Starting Meal Selector

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2898176672

Starting Meal Selector's recent update has been tested and approved by the verifier team, and will remain on the Speedrun.com Approved Mod list.

Happy Plating everyone!

The speedrun rules have been updated to reflect new changes found regarding customer count and player disconnects/input changes. The rules can be found below:

Player count is defined as the number of inputs. Additional player characters spawned during the course of a run (Start of Day 1 to End of Day 15) are not allowed. Any change to player count (including any additional name plate appearance) during a day before all customers have been called/spawned will require the day to be restarted (returning to lobby, and re-entering the restaurant through the save table.) The Day Progress bar indicates if all customers have been spawned. Once the bar is full, all customers have been called in/spawned. When taking the card "Closing Time", any change to player count during a day will require the day to be restarted.

Thank you and happy speeding!

Players disconnecting and connecting during a day retroactively reduces or increases the number of customer groups that will arrive in that day. Our previous knowledge of only having to start the day with the correct number of players connected has been inaccurate since a change in patch 1.14. For this reason all runs with a player disconnecting during the day, where all groups have not yet been called, including closing time groups, must return to HQ and restart the day over. All runs where a player disconnects forcing the number of expected groups to decrease in the day will be rejected going forward. For reference, testing has shown that a player disconnecting in trios reduces the overall customer groups by approximately 17%.

The speedrun verifiers and moderators were unaware of this new game mechanic and thus any runs submitted where a player started the day but subsequently disconnected were still approved. We would like your overall opinion, should we go back and reject the runs with a disconnected player or do we keep these runs accepted on the board and only apply the rule going forward? Please follow this link to cast your vote https://strawpoll.com/eNg69Vj44nA

Voting closes Saturday 2nd December at 6pm UTC

Happy Speedrunning!

Set Layout Voting Results: Set Layouts now available in Random Seed Category

Hello Platers!

The poll results are in, Allowing Set Layouts in Random Seed Category is the winner by a large margin. Thank you all for letting us hear your opinions! I will update the rules accordingly, and I hope to see you all submitting more runs than ever!

(Winner) Allow Set Layouts for ALL Random Seed Submissions

58.87% (73 votes)

Do not allow Set Layouts for ANY Random Seed Submission

21.77% (27 votes)

Allow Set Layouts for Trios and Quads Random Seed Submissions only

19.35% (24 votes)

Total votes: 124

What this means:

Starting November 6th, Set Layouts (Seeds put into the flower pot) will be usable in all sizes (Solo, Duo, Trio, Quads), and Map Settings (Normal, Autumn, Turbo, Lake, North Pole), with the "Seed Affects Layout Only" option on.

Rule Change Vote: Allowing Set Layout in Random Seed.

Recently the community has been discussing a possible rule change to allow set layouts in Random Seed submissions for our Speedrun.com rules.

With the option "Seed Affects Layout Only", cards and blueprints will still be randomized, the issue at hand is allowing the seed option to generate a layout. We have found that the following 3 options are viable, and will change the rules according to the results of the poll linked below.

Allow Set Layouts for ALL Random Seed Submissions:

This option would allow the use of a Seed to determine the layout of a restaurant.

Allow Set Layouts for Trios and Quads Random Seed Submissions:

This option would allow the use of a Seed to determine the layout of a restaurant only for Trio and Quad runs. Solo and Duo submissions may NOT use a seed for layouts.

Do not allow Set Layouts for ANY Random Seed Submission:

This is the current rule, and disallows use of any seeds for layouts.

We ask that you please be informed before voting. Turn off mods such as Layout Generator, and Extra Options, then reroll layouts trying to find a viable speedrun layout for Duos/Trios/and Quads. As many of you have already know, there was a large discussion on this in the Discord Speedrun-Discussion channel, and verifiers have been hard at work testing various scenarios.

Rules Update, Verifier Guidelines, & Discord Expansion

Welcome everyone, we have updated the rules for Speedruns to clarify, allow expansion, include future categories, as well as to account for the upcoming console versions of PlateUp!

The rules are still very much the same, but would be wise to read over to see if you have any questions before starting your next Speedrun. The revised rules also indicate what verifiers look for in each video submission, located at the bottom of the rules on. These rules will be updated when required, and when they are, an announcement will be made here, and on the official PlateUp Discord (https://discord.gg/plateup).

Along with this, we have created forms to: Suggest New Categories, Suggest New Mods for the Accepted Mod list, and to Dispute Rejected Speedruns. All of these are located in the official Discord.

We also wanted to address some concerns brought up to us by the PlateUp! Speedrunning Community, so there are new verifier rules that all current verifiers have agreed to and all new verifiers must read and accept: http://bit.ly/speedrun-verifier-rules

As we are preparing for new categories, console release, and new players we are looking for more members of the PlateUp! community interested in becoming a verifier. If anyone is interested in applying, please use this form: https://forms.gle/5AFr7rdCBWVGXk5Z8

We're looking for dedicated, objective, and impartial verifiers to follow these new rules as we begin work for all the upcoming developments!

Happy Plating!
