I’m pretty sure a good chunk of the community agrees that emulator should not be allowed in any form on the main board. Even if that weren’t the case, I highly doubt it would actually get added as a category/subcategory due to the lack of interest. While I do think the emulator leaderboard would get more submissions than the VC leaderboard, I don’t think it would get enough to warrant a spot on the main board. (Especially since the idea of removing the VC board has been brought up before).
@DiamondcrafterA that's a good argument, would you then say that there are other reasons besides that, that haven't been properly responded to?
@DiamondcrafterA with the number of times i've seen people want emulators throught time, i don't think that realy makes a big problem. It doesn't realy matter that much how much activity it has in respect to the main version, and if it would get more submissions than VC then why not (once again, i've argumented back it not being an "official version" in other eyes). And well, it alredy has a bunch of runs in the google document from Toogs (even if those usualy atract a lot less of attention than actual SRC leaderboards). Leaderboard wouldn't hurt anyone.
btw @AnirDoesSpeedruns im kinda tired of hearing that lol I've been hearing the "community has already discussed many times about this" thingy a lot for almost 4 years now, but there are still no explanations in response to the contra-arguments that are being made about emulators. Even further than the emulators argument, it also is about people in the comunity just completly avoiding this topic for so long as if everything was alredy said about it and there was no reason for the people to keep coming with it to the forum back and forth
I am shocked that I haven't really seen the main argument against emulator (imo) be brought up more. Dolphin is simply not an accurate emulator, and has had multiple discrepancies that have been reported on over time (look it up if curious). I think that this is the biggest reason why emulator is banned, on top of it being an unofficial release like has been mentioned before. Older consoles like NES and SNES games often allow emulation simply because it is more accurate.
@Cads Good point, but I don't see how Dolphin is not accurate. I always thought the main reason emulator was banned was because of how easy it is to cheat. Also what discrepancies are you talking about? All of the errors reported are either old or having to do with graphic settings incompatible with their computer. Also I couldn't find a lot of reports anyway lol
@Cads I don't mean to reiterate but wouldn't any possible discrepencies or inconstistencies again only really be important if emulator wasn't it's own choice separate from console? If the inconsistencies are part of the way Dolphin runs the game or how certain computers run it, wouldn't it not really be an issue for verification if made it's own selection?
Im also interested on what kind of "discrepancies" are considered a problem on dolphin for this, and kinda agree on Geji that it wouldn't still not realy matter that much if it is only a thing inside of the emulator category itself (doesnt affect the difference from console), depending of what that discrepancy is
Alltho it is indeed a very solid point for argumenting, im also suprissed it isnt realy brought more on these And I think is like the first reasoning from which I could differenciate Wii emulating from any other console's emulating
Hi everyone!
As of May 1st, 2024, the process for submitting full-game runs has changed. When submitting a run, please leave "Load Removed Time" blank unless you achieved a time under a category's specific retime barrier. **For categories without a retime barrier, please only fill out "Real T
