Welcome to Mr. Spaceman speedrunning. This guide will walk you through the basics of playing the game and what you can do to submit your first run.

The first thing to know about this game is that it operates in a manner that is almost grid-like, comparing to that of Pac-man for example. This means that perfectly optimised movement does not need to be frame-perfect, but rather anticipated correctly. As soon as you let go of one input, be ready for the next one and press it a few frames before necessary. There is also no need to hold down a specific button press, to ensure you do not continue too far in one direction and have to backtrack.

In this game, there are not really any particularly difficult tricks, meaning it is easy to replicate world-record runs, but the movement is very tight and difficult to master. One way to save time easily is to hold down a specific button press while transitioning between levels. Here I have linked the document I use for anticipating movement in-between levels.

The last thing you can do to improve your runs is simply watch other runs to learn the most optimised routes. I have linked here my full Any% playlist, with individually indexed ILs. These are also a great way to begin, as they are short, and easy to grasp.
