Any% Gunvolt Normal Safe Route - Upgrade Guide

This is the safe route for any% Gunvolt Normal difficulty. Do keep in mind that abilities will vary per other character such as: Ekoro, Ray, Kurona, Copen.

This rough guide will be divided and will only really talk about when to upgrade your weapon in a safe route. Each level listed is a sequence to retrieve a certain upgrade and quick level menuing.

LS = Level Start or Before selecting a level
BB = Before the boss, the room before a boss room

This upgrade route is based roughly on the cost points you collect. There may be times where you might be off by a few points unfortunately.

Main Stages --

City: for safe route, when you complete the level, instead of selecting the 300 Cost Point upgrade, Select Septimal Shield. This will halve and reduce damage by 75% with the proper upgrade points.

Radio Tower: BB Slot 2 0.5 Shield

Highway: LS Slot 3: 2x jump
	BB Slot 3: 0.5 shield

Military Base: No change; stick with Slot 3

Mine: LS Slot 3: Add 3x jump
	BB Slot 4: Add 1.5 Damage

Power Plant: LS Slot 3 add 0.25 shield
	BB Switch to Slot 4

Water Works: LS Slot 4 add 2x jump and 0.5 shield

Oil Platform: LS Slot 4 add 3x jump

Capital Building: No changes


Wily Stages --

Gateway: LS Slot 4 add 4x jump
	BB Slot 5 add 2x attack

Subspace: LS Switch to slot 4
	BB Switch to slot 5 and add 0.5 shield

Distopia: LS Switch to slot 4 and add 0.25 shield
	BB Add 2x jump to slot 5

Cyberspace: LS add 0.25 sheild

Burst Combo Level Scaling

Ah if you pay attention to the Mighty Gunvolt Burst Website (http://mightygunvolt.com/en/MGB/), it actually gives out some pretty important patch notes such as for various effects and actions affected by the current burst combo like Collapse Ray and Luxcalibur, they will now change according to the following:

Level (LV): Burst Combo

LV.1: 0

LV.2: 1-4

LV.3: 5-9

LV.4: 10-19

LV.5: 20-29

LV.6: 30 or more

So for bosses like Battalion and Pyrogen, if you’re trying to get a Collapse Ray quick kill with 1.5x attack power; you will definitely NEED a LV.6. You could get away with a LV.5 or 4 with 2.0x attack power and a LV.3 or less with 3.0x. Plus elemental weaknesses make a difference too.

Different Types of CP

Reward Item CP: CP that is worth 300, but you can only get it after clearing a stage; unless you want to waste your time on Septimal Shield.

Rare Item CP: Big chunks of CP that can be found throughout the stages and is worth 50 CP each.

Set Small CP: They're are a smaller chunk of CP that are found throughout the stages as well and each one is worth 10 CP each. 

Extra Small Set CP: They’re smaller than Set Small CP and are worth 2 CP each. Also if you collect a pixel sticker on a stage once, you keep it throughout different playthroughs and are replace with Extra set small CP. 

Random CP Drops: When you kill a enemy, there is chance they will drop CP. Two different types to be specific. You will either get one like the set small CP that is worth 10 CP or a even a smaller chunk of CP that is worth 2 CP each.

How Mighty Gunvolt Burst Ranking System Works

-When you beat a stage, the game judge your performance with a D, C, B, A, or the alluring “S” rank along with a total score that varies on the stage and to calculate it; the game uses four prerequisites: Stage Score, Clear Bonus, Extra Bonus, and Penalty.

Stage Score
-Stage Score consist of your Stage Score and Clear Time with it affecting your Extra Bonus; so I will address it later. Max Burst Combo tallies the longest amount “Burst” you performed in a stage, which is performed by consistently killing enemies and bosses up close and resets by not killing them up close. Plus enemies and bosses give you a different base amount of points if you kill them with a burst or not with enemies like Robosec gives you 200 points each from not killing them up close, while bosses like Dynatron gives you 1600 points each from not killing them up close. Burst points is calculated by a hidden multiplier discovered by Crimson Smasher from Twitter. By the end of the stage, the game will tally your non-burst points burst points into a Stage Score.

Clear Bonus
-Clear Bonus basically rewards you with more points for starting a stage with less Max Equip Cost Points (or CP for short) on a custom slot, which can go up to a grand total of 16,000 in Normal Mode or 21,000 in Hard Mode do to the 5,000 point Difficulty Bonus.

Extra Bonus
-Extra Bonus consist of a Sprinter Bonus, No Damage Bonus, and a Remaining Food Items Bonus. If you beat a stage with a fast enough Clear Time, you get a 3000 point Sprinter Bonus. No Damage Bonus is pretty self-explanatory and if you meet that prerequisite, you get an extra 3000 points. Remaining Food Items Bonus rewards you with more points for not eating any food items you collect during a stage and each one gives you a different amount of points: 

800 Points: Hamburger, Meat, Pizza
500 Points: Melon, Watermelon
300 Points: Apple, Bananas, Grapes, Peach
250 Points: Candy, Ice Cream, Lollipop, Short Cake
150 Points: Cherries, Orange, Strawberry

Penalty
-Penalty is the only prerequisite that can lower your ranking and only consist of your Retry Count, which deducts your total score by 300 points every time you die or use a retry.

Summary
-So if you’re planning on doing a true 100% speedrun, I suggest getting “S” ranks on your first stage visits where you will have less CP and get a higher Clear Bonus then just run through the stages on the revisits. Screen Scrolling

-Synopsis: Just like most classic Mega Man games, the stages are split into screens and everytime you transition between them; a scrolling animation happens. So you may be asking "Okay what is this leading into?, well from editing my Ray Any% guide with Adobe Premiere Pro; I can get a rough estimate of how long certain animations last. For example, the screen scrolling animation last about 20 frames or 1/3 of a second. Obviously screen scrolling is the main way of progressing through this game, so we can't really do much about it; but alot of CP Upgrades and Rare Items are locked behind screens that go off the beaten path. If we're picky about the things we collect, we can save seconds. 

City

Conclusion

-In most of the Any% categories, we already skip alot of screens, but some of them are still worth losing frames over due to them having important upgrades like Aerial Action and Diagonal Fire which are usually lock behind them; but again we could carefully ignore some CP upgrades to save some time and potentially break some of the sub goals in harder categories like Ekoro and Ray Any%.
